When your life is measured in years and miles,
It is easy to bring yourself to spar with reality.

A brand new car will last you your entire life
If it is taken care of
And well-maintained.
A used one will net you ten years, tops.

This is why I am jealous of those
Who bide their time and
Make things used.

This is why I am ashamed that I am used.

Circles are predictable, they

have no edges, no sharp, quick turns, but

are continuous the same path, and the same

outcome. But circles are dangerous, they can trap us

They keep us in a continuous cycle of lies,

and habits that hurt us. Isn’t that what happened to you?

You got stuck in your own little cycle, and hurt all of

us, not just you. Watching you go through this cycle,

like car driving on a race track. Going so fast to end up,

in the same place. What happens when you run out

gas? you’ll just stop, stop driving, because this

circle kept you going till you ran out, left you empty

done, depleted, dead.

All cars flow down the same mainstream of the expressway,
And meet for a while, traveling the same road.
They ride side by side touching for a brief span of time, being under one  fellowship.

Then the expressway divides and fellow travelers go their own ways, never having met but yet together.
They divide never to see each other again or meet and yet they have touched each others' lives.

And also they were once under one divine hand with the same pre-determined destination.
Now they part and go different ways, yet they are still protected by one hand.
Written when I was in my late teen years.  Some of the expressways were just being started.

Pave the Planet Earth

Not too long ago
It was just Harvest time
That the farthest distance
Was traveled from home
Perishable bounty
Had to get to market on time
In the progress
Of wheeling and dealing
Cash crop
While still fresh
Before its value dropped
Only the Horse and Buggy Doctor
Would need to travel
Any farther or faster
The rest of the year
Trading his service to protect life
For tangible scarce resources
Without shifting a gear
getting from point A to point B is such a drag anymore.

When the Clutch drops
The laughter stops
Heads start to turn
Tires start to burn
All this stops when they see the cops

He's got too much money
And he wants to play
"Let's see, what money can do, really."
He'll buy that Lithograph
For you at the auction
"That's some introduction", you'll purr
But what's money, really, when you don't have morals?
"A whole lot of fun, ***, and cars.
Oh, my manners. Did you want some?"
He'll tempt you
But it's just a game
He talks, he pays
He walks away
He looks back at you
With his arm around a pretty predator
She asks "Did you want to play?"

Streaks

from worn out wipers

dented cans, plastic wrappers

the glow of a cigarette ****

lying comfortably
in the ashtray

white knuckles tight

on a weathered wheel

empty roads

cold and black

eyes tired but open

like trucker stops

or roadside diners

with the neons

still on

I keep driving

teetering between

my existence

and a sweet dream

I’d slip into that slumber

if not for the passengers

still fast asleep
in my back seat

So I keep driving

as quiet
and as lonely

as it may be

I keep driving

because
somebody

is putting
 their trust
 in me
