I am a child in wildness
open the ignorant eyes
see the endless plain
with green grass
and rolling mountains
A blue river
flows through
freely

There is
no panic
no bullying
no dispute
only life
breathes
freely

My imposing figure.
Wrought by iron.
A chained Goliath.
Humming hymnals.
Pleading to a higher power.
Polaris guide us once more.

Break our hands.
To quiet the rattle.
Take our breath.
To silence the prayers.
Beat us down.
To keep us from standing.

The blood that binds us.
Brothers and sisters.
Wash our countrymen.
Their stained clothes.
Impossible to hide.
Tower above them.

My imposing figure.
With its earthen tones
And crimson cuts.
Strikes fear in you,
Because it should.
We are strength. We are Black Americans.

I have to constantly remind myself
That I'm still alive
I have to take a breath
To participate in life.

The air that drifts in through my window
Has come as the wind from afar for me to breathe;
Past mountain tops and river valleys;
From the mouth of my beloved.
It has rustled the leaves of trees along the way
And has skimmed the crests of waves in vast oceans.
We breathe the world with every breath.

Banal breathes,
why must I pressure myself
to do cornfed motions,
                           that serve as life...

I held you in,
tried to suffocate your existence.
But self preservation
          is an inhalation of regrets.

We rob the planet, feeding it our exhaust,
                    a carbon footprint
better off with out..

Sometimes the day to day
                                  bland reasoning,
out ways the necessity of us.

We are these hunger driven monsters
We are these broken vessels that consume our body
Our desperate conscious tells us the things we beg not to hear.

The wonder of the mind
So extraordinary
So powerful.
The thoughts that turn into reality and the so called endless time slips away to a close.
The life we dreamed of washes of with every breath we take and every step we make
We realize how unclear we really are
No plans or hacks that we believed we had for our lives truly let alone nearly comes close to ever becoming a reality.

We are told once again the things we wished wouldn't be told.

A breath.

Each breath takes up part of a day.
Every breath restarts the clock of life.

Expansion.

The expansion of the lungs can be meaningful.

A sigh.
A squeal.
A gasp.

A breath.
