 Dec 2015 Six Flowers
Sam Vaghi
Her large eyes stare out
into the darkening red sky,
glowing emerald orbs that
reflect the white hot sparks
that leap off
her quickened breath.

Her mighty form
pauses upon the cliff edge,
her power restrained, for now,
in tight muscles beneath
glistening golden scales.
She is motionless,
But for the rhythm
of her rising chest
and the irritated twitch,
back and forth,
of her tail.

Her sharp, night black talons
****** deep into the dry earth
which desperately drinks in
the few drops of blue blood
that fall from superficial scratches
along her impenetrable hide.

Battered ****** shields
and shattered silver swords
litter the charred ground below her,
among cast aside corpses
of cruel hunters
that thought themselves
mighty, wise and brave.

Who come to prove
themselves
against the wildest of creatures,
but always fail,
underestimating
the mighty mind
behind those immortal eyes.

Last night the alcohol filled my system
and I laughed so hard
pearls came rushing down my cheeks
One, two, three - more than many
Last night I cried and filled an ocean
while I got drained
of the remnants of a one true love
together with the one real agony
And last night I tried to fill me up again
with thoughts of forgiving
and a decision of forgetting
Well last night at least, I really tried
Today I woke up
with a brand new hangover
and without the same old heartburn
Yes finally
Today, the sun greeted me
and I smiled back, "Good morning."

Now off my heart goes.

Letting go and finally saying goodbye was never an easy thing for the heart that had been so true, so passionate , and so hurt. It's never easy, but not impossible.

Hearts

What is a mere heartbreak,
when you have a roof over your head,
blankets to keep you warm and
the choicest food to fill your belly.

So what if you feel
the rain on your breast
for a thousand years and more.
What if the biting cold
seeps through the skin and
freezes your heart.
And what if your heart
becomes a hollow bottomless pit.

At least you won't hunger,
or thirst or worry for
the next day's meal.

So what if hearts break.

And let's face it.
Hearts don't break.
You can't break it with a hammer,
smash them into pieces.
No, hearts don't break.
They just wither and waste.
we danced the waltz and
yes i stepped on your toes and missed a few steps
but you also held me in your arms and swayed me back and forth-
whilst you whispered sweet nothings into my ear
and
when we were at our happiest;
in sync;
to the beat;
you walked out of the room and left me dancing in circles waiting for you to come back.

maybe we can all get lost
in each other's sadness
maybe we can all drown
in each other's tears
when our memories have
nothing but wasted years
and once we're all through
maybe we can all go back
to when we weren't blue
but until then
all i have is me
and all you have is you.
Hit me hard and break my heart into a million pieces
Cause only then will you see how much its worth
Don't settle for a dozen scraps, a hundred, or a thousand
Strike with passion and leave a mess upon the earth

Then watch me as I pick up every piece that was scattered,
From the loftiest clouds they perched, and crevices they slipped
Now take them from my hand and hold it in yours all together
And feel the weight of the million pieces that you had ripped

I want you to see how they still mold and form the same original shape
How a million pieces could be reattached and still reveal a heart
Yet, do not mistake their lightness for instability or lack of focus
They can also be diamond tough; my soul is the fortress, while it, the rampart

Its not some plastic easter egg thats only as good as its design
Not a false brittle shell, with a hollow and empty core
Each piece accounts apiece, a full apple with no worm
Every heartbreak meant to make it, love even better, than before

So if you're looking for commitment, let that be the trial
I'm not promising it'd be easy, it can only be worth the pain
It's only in shattered hearts, that subtle thoughts are brought to light
Neither the first nor the last, but I'd repeat it all the same,

*If you're the one I'm about to gain.
Some heartbreaks can be devastating. Some are harder to recover, as some pieces flung farther are tough to find. You'll eventually pick the pieces of you heart all together again, it might just take a lot of time. The purpose of this poem was to shed a more positive light on that feeling. Heartbreaks remind me how human I am. I'm a sucker for that feeling, for shrapnels in my heart.
