I assist you
on this brimming morning
to welcome
this new day
the gift
you keep on
giving
Mother Earth
I am awake
with fallen stars
as wide eyes
and awakening
my soul's soul
for you

May you always have soft sunlight, a full moon, a bus that always comes on time. Flowers. May your kisses feel like falling, like stars blossoming into nebulas. Good hands. May you feel like you are infinity, like time is always on your side. You are divine. A mouth full of words that sound like "Yes," Eyes full of darling.  Skin soft like snow. May you always smell like honeysuckle, perfume as flowery as honest conversations. Laughter. A lazy afternoon spent staring at clouds. May you have love.  Love you can whisper to. Love you can scream about, write about, sing about. May you always love yourself most of all.

i understand the ocean better than you
ever could, an inlander within a prison built of
browned ivy. i rose and rose again from the sea
after the waves crash and yet i know nothing
of how the tides swirl, besides me being part
of that neverending cycle of salt and bits of
coral. can summers go by without a seagull's
cry carrying me from the inland and plucking my
soul towards the great waters of home?

i had died the other day and from my grave
i saw a hand with rings upon each finger. on each ring
was a gemstone that spelled out the infinity known
in my fearful tongue which bleeds whenever
i bite the knife that cuts the flesh of time;
will i ever understand the meaning of decay?
will i ever comprehend my bones giving way to worms?
When I see you
I get caterpillars in my stomach
Not grown enough to be butterflies
But alive enough
    To make me feel sick

The constant crawling
A thousand tiny legs
Scurrying up my esophagus
Ready to throw up
A feeling too real to ignore
And too nauseating to admit

So when I see you again
I’ll just keep my mouth shut
Live with the taste of dirt on my tongue
And swallow the caterpillars
   That live in my stomach.

so look at me
tell me i know nothing
tell me the world has been kind
but before you do
before you judge me so harshly
show me your heart
and i’ll show mine
it’s covered in bruises and rips,
rust and grime,
hurt and shame.
dents and dings,
then look at me and say i’m beautiful
tell me i’m as golden as a ray
look me in the eye and tell me i’m not damaged
I can only wish the person this is for could hear these words and understand how damaged I am, and with that knowledge: take care in what they say.
