They tore them all down
Raised our cities and ports
Until only one yet stood
The tower city of Babel

From there we were scattered
But not before some of us escaped
Launched beyond the stars
Our desperate and final hope

If any survived
Or if through the millennia
Our children rise again
We left a hidden guide

When the time is right
The Black Knight will appear
Bearing that forgotten message
That will unite us once again

In the light
Of strange and distant suns
Hadrian Veska Jan 2018
Footsteps echo below the midnight sky
Inquisitive eyes pierce through the very moon
Down from where the scent of blooming lilies
Descends in the night floating on gentle clouds
Hadrian Veska Dec 2019
Can you hear it
The groaning of the earth
The audible patience
Of One not yet born

The stillness deafens
If you just listen
And in the deepening song
Might it be revealed

Only to the wise
Those without wisdom
A pinpoint star
In a sea of black

A hidden miracle
In the cold of night
Gentle and meek
Born to the world

In stillness not crying
The groaning subsided
A sign of relief
An audible swell

The world rejoices
For One has been born
Amidst the darkness
The Son of God
Hadrian Veska Aug 2017
Nothing that abides in the dark
Should be trusted
For only in the light
Can truth be seen
Hadrian Veska Apr 2022
Cheap imitations
gods in name only
Shuddering in fear
Of the God among them
Conspiring with themselves
To remove him from the world
Yet unbeknownst to them
This was his very intent
For God himself to come down
And does at the hands of men
That men might be free
To return to their ancient station
Among the very stars
Hadrian Veska Sep 2018
Set in the sky
Thin and mellow
Soon to sleep
From blue to yellow
A gilded sunset
Entwines with dusk
Deep purple and gold
An evening lust
Below the trees
Dark green and black
Watch a setting sun
That won't come back
Hadrian Veska Aug 18
A faint feeling of deja vu
A feeling, that I've been here before
But did something different
Something better than what I managed

I reel in the waves of my own mind
Crashing in on themselves
A never-ending circular sea
Hurdling through the depths of space

After minutes spanning hours
I come back to myself
Or at least the one present here
Observing with a skewed awareness

A last rolling wave washed over me
Something calming and refreshing
With just the right amount of power
To firmly hold me yet not threaten me

And it was just that, I thought
I was only observing life
Present, yet a mere passerby
Even in my own actions

I was watching someone else's life unfold
From the first-person view
And lately I didn't like
The direction they were taking

For a moment I felt the warmth of the sun
If only briefly in my mind
As if for the very first time I noticed
The boundless vitality it possessed

And indeed, I did possess it too
Hadrian Veska Jul 2016
A stumbling shape
Of undetermined form
Not flowing,
But twisting and contorting

Bent beyond breaking
Like a young green branch
It calls out in pain
With a silent voice it beckons

Hoping to be heard
Against the drowning dark
But there is no answer
Nor will there ever be
Hadrian Veska Sep 2016
Meaning is meaningless
If it isn't also true
The world and what it is
Is the same to me and you

By believing something contrary
To the universe we see
We don't solve any problems
Or better you and me

So let's hold truth sacred
As the unknown's only key
Uniting under its banner
For it will set us free
Hadrian Veska Oct 2019
Hot coffee
Rain streaming down glass
The sun is silent
Filtered by looming clouds
The lights outside are accentuated
By the dull grey sky
Yellows and reds
Come and pass endlessly
I haven’t opened my book yet
And I don’t think I will
No I think instead I will dream
After all what is a story
But someone else’s dream
Written down to share with others
This thought puts my mind at ease
I think instead I will dream
And share it only
With the one that I love
Hadrian Veska Feb 2018
Lonesome despair
Shattered in air
The hopes that once were
No longer there

It's ok to cry
To let the past die
So that in time the future might
Again one day be bright
Hadrian Veska Aug 22
Nothing can be the way you want it
Struggle and difficulty will not cease
To be at all is the great spurned honor
To feel all pains and laugh them away
Hadrian Veska Jan 2018
I write for someone
Though I know not who
It could just be for me
Or maybe it's for you

Maybe you alone
Truly know and understand
The words that pour out
Of my head into my hands

Maybe you alone
Think of my poems in the dead of night
When all the world is quiet
And the moon is your only light

Or perhaps your are no one
A figment of my mind
Though I'd like to think you're real
And our fates are intertwined
Hadrian Veska Apr 2016
Before the stillborn dawn
Darkness rolls off the horizon
The world emerges
From its long slumber

Across the wind whipped plains
Scorched by midday sun
Clear blue skies
Paritioned by wisps of cloud

Through the mist filled woods
Where the wolf lurks
A calm dusk approaches
Along the forest path

Lush green hill lands
As far as the eye can see
Star soaked heavens
Suspended in the silver night
Hadrian Veska Sep 2016
We only spoke once
But I though of you
The rest of the day
And all night through

I dreamed of us
Happily together
In warm sunshine
Or rainy weather

We were happy, content
I couldn't ask for more
My life had been closed
You my open door

And then I woke up
In an empty bed
With thoughts of you
Still in my head

Across the night
Did you dream of me too?
Did I even deserve
To dream about you?

Old abandoned Khehrmnkaal
A jewel before the eastern fall
Second only to the heavenly spires
A long lost place of strange desires
Many have since its decay
Tried their best to find a way
To that ancient city of myth and splendor
Only to be met by its defender
Though his days are long since past
That giant hero's bones did last
Towering over the dusk red sands
Monstrous ten and two foot hands
And like his bones does the city lie
Beneath the sun's unblinking eye
The only eye that knows its place
Until in time its lights erased
Care-men-call
Hadrian Veska Jun 2020
Into the kiln
Unbaked clay
Memories know
Words to yet say

Fired and strengthened
Rigid and whole
A vessel of beauty
The ultimate goal

Cool now and rest
Let your form take shape
What you now are
Is no accident of fate
Hadrian Veska May 2016
Crumbling grey tombstone
Overgrown wild hedge
Rusted Victorian fences
Sitting on the edge

Ancient hollow moon
Resting over the sky
As lonesome empty voices
Fill the air and pass me by

The night is still
Devoid of stress
As I learn old tales
From the spirits at rest

I listen for a time
The stories to keep
Then close my eyes
With the stars to sleep
Hadrian Veska Aug 2017
The world is at peace
United as one kingdom
Under the ruler
Of the kindgom of the air

Under him

Science has fallen
Hailed as progress
Dragging us back into the mud
Of disease and blind adherence

The family is broken
Torn from the seams
No father home left to teach
No mother home left to nurture

God is dead
Removed from the world
The work of his own hands
Deny his very existence

We are all lost
Searching for meaning
A meaning we cannot find
Because we've already rejected it

The kingdom long promised has come
Bringing peace to the earth
The kingdom has come
Though, not the one we expected
Hadrian Veska Sep 2018
Pick me up; stain my soul
With gold and lacquer
Make me whole

Skillful hands gently piece
Me back together
So the pain might cease

Accentuate my fatal flaws
With golden Ichor
Expose my cause

That I might at last be renewed
And despite my faults
Perfection exude
Hadrian Veska Apr 2016
The sky was dark and overcast
A solemn warm rain fell down
On a field of dead bodies
Rays of dim grey light
Pierced through thick clouds

They walked among the battlefield
That was now all but silent
The only sound to be heard
Were broken banners blowing in the wind
And hollow footsteps pressing into the mud

They always appeared after battle
Surveying the death and destruction
Kneeling and sharing their sorrow
Those ancient souls of war
That fought when the sun was still young

Great warriors long forgotten
To the places they once called home
Courageous heroes of old
Cursed to walk for all eternity
Those Knights of the Fallen Earth
Hadrian Veska Oct 2020
I don't know much of anything
But what I do know
Is that I don't know
And now that I know
That I don't know
I can search for what is true
Hadrian Veska Aug 2017
Opalescent streams of running water
Cascade over slick black rock
With no destination in mind
They simply follow the curve of the earth

And yet they always end up
Where they need to be
Hadrian Veska Feb 22
The lunar craters sit silently
Painting an image of a bygone war
One that no grass or flowers
Will ever grow over

A war of annihilation
A destruction so complete
It was etched it stone
A grim reminder of a vicious cycle

That the very thing itself
That decimated our moon
And sent it hurdling into the earth
Would one day return to us

To finish what it had begun
Those distant eons ago
Hadrian Veska Jan 2017
The land beyond the mountains
Is little known
Save for legend
of Krykry

An ancient sprawling city
Of unknown origin
That has lied in ruins
For untold millennia

From the top of the mountains
Its crumbled spires can be seen
Though few venture near
Those treacherous peaks

Some say the city was built
Long before humans walked the earth
The thought of which makes men shudder
For they have heard tales of the things

That walked under the sun
When yet it was young in the sky
Hadrian Veska Dec 2020
Waste away
Our bodies decay
To the earth we flee
And are thus inlaid
Wrapped in roots
The soil so sweet
Damp and cool
From crowns to our feet
A rest for eternity
Yet not for all time
To awaken once more
When the Earth is sublime
Until then we sleep
And in sleep we do dream
For the sleep of death
Is not all it may seem
Hadrian Veska Jan 2017
Seven white lanterns
On a mountainside pass
The silver moonlight
Dancing on grass

A cool gentle wind
Blows down from the heights
The rivers above
The great northern lights

The earth here at peace
In reverent tranquility
Ever aware and secure
In its graceful fragility

That those lost be honored
On the mountainside pass
Where they died for all things
So that peace might last
Hadrian Veska Jul 2016
I dreamed once more
And dreamed my last
Before the end
Before the past

Where in my mind
I glimpsed strange sights
Of far off shores
And soft warm lights

I knew not why
Yet I felt at home
As I watched the waters
Swirl and foam

A voice called out
From beyond the sea
And I knew in an instant
That it was for me

I tried to reach out
Grasp the words on the air
But they soon disappeared
To a long lost prayer

So I sat in the sand
As the sun sank low
And the world about
Ebbed and flowed

With the day turned to night
I opened my eyes
And awoke in my bed
To fire in the skies
Hadrian Veska Aug 2016
To be remembered
To have a legacy
Through the ages

For this goal
Many men greater than I
Have devoted themselves

The great pharoahs
Built temples and pyramids
That stood the test of time

But who can remember their names?
And who amoung those
Could recall their personality?

Does anyone know
Who they really were in life?
What they loved and what they feared?

If the pharohs themselves
Failed to be truely remembered
What hope do I have

Me, I will be content
Loving and being loved
Until I return

To wherever my true home may be
Hadrian Veska Jul 2016
A solitary wanderer
Known only to a few
He walked the path
Under the ancient yew

Across vast forests
And places of the deep
Through frozen lands
And forgotten keeps

Not a seeker of wealth
Or for that matter fame
Whenever he was asked
He'd not tell his name

Ever forging on
Beyond the edge of earth
To one day find
His own life's worth

He became a hero
To those lost in the dark
A beacon of hope
Wherever his mark

And though he was lost
Disappeared long ago
His tale carried on
So that all may know

Of the forgotten story
Great myth passed by
The legend of a man
Known only as I
Hadrian Veska Feb 2017
Twisted hot metal
Coiled and wound
Around thin necks
Held to the ground

Limbs malnourished
Temples concave
On all a dark symbol
Cruelly engraved

The swelling illness
Spreads with the ice
Together repaying
Our sins over twice

The sickness unending
From the stars brought down
Our final judgment
Shall be our crown
Hadrian Veska Apr 2018
The scent of lavender
Wafts gently through the room
Fresh cut
From the gardens outside
Put in a vase
A third filled with water
I can feel her smile
From where I sit
In the next room over
As she washes her hands
Hadrian Veska Nov 2016
Layers of man
Bricks upon stones
Swirling sand
And ancient bones

Broken in piles
Have we lied for ages
While the sun grows dim
And the world rages

We can see into the past
Yet never too far
For what was is darkness
Before our star

That darkness so sweet
Protecting our minds
From the horrors that were
And may yet in time
Hadrian Veska Aug 2018
Lay with me
Hold my hand
Just breath
Steadily
I need you close
Without your touch
I get cold
And winters coming
Don't you know
Hadrian Veska Jul 2017
The smell of lemongrass
Passes in through the open window
As I scan about the room

Wicker baskets and containers
Overflow with odds and ends
Trinkets and relics alike

On the shelf above
There is a picture frame
With nothing but a stock photo

The room gives off the appearance
Of being lived in yet,
No one has lived here in a long time

They merely pass on through
Hadrian Veska Jun 2022
To many trying to teach
When they don't understand the lesson
Too many trying to preach
When they don't know the truth
Everyone is so sure
Convinced and convicted
But anyone that can reason
Can only say they are learning
And what they know today
Is less than they knew yesterday
But sometimes less is more
Hadrian Veska May 2017
Seemingly, seemingly
The world around is squeezing me
Pulling me and pushing me
With no particular destiny

The things I know fade away
The storms carry on dark and grey
I'm losing the things that guide my way
I need something less or more

To get me through the day
Hadrian Veska Nov 2018
The ley lines have changed
Twisting and curving
Leading somewhere
Hidden long ago
We are close now
To those mysteries
The secrets we once knew
When the world was still young
Hadrian Veska May 2016
The night is nearly come
Hush as the stars begin to fade
I will cover your head
Among the deepening shade

Lean into my arms
Let all cares float away
I will guide your feet
Lest the path gives way

Into the shifting smoke
Beyond the fluttering veil
Just close your tired eyes
Let the world turn pale
Hadrian Veska Dec 2020
There's lightening in the bones
Deep pits and mass graves
Of long forgotten wars
Idle charged and waiting
Reanimation a guarantee
But for now they rest
In tune with the low roar
The dull vibration of the Earth
Pleading their case
Until they may rise again
Hadrian Veska Apr 2016
The wolves howl
With the wolf of my heart
As I long to be free
No longer apart

To run through the forest
Under the sky
To hear the great story
Of creation and I
Hadrian Veska Apr 2018
Sometimes I get lonely
Though I know I’m not alone
It’s hard not to feel this way
When one’s so far from home
But all it takes feel
Whole and at peace again
Are the simple little things
You do for me now and then
A laugh, your bright smile
Or a simple good night kiss
Strange how such little things
Can turn sadness into bliss
So no matter where I am
Whether far away or near
Know that it’s the little things
You do that I hold dear
Hadrian Veska Apr 2019
To speak is to order
To bring out of chaos
The form that should be
To bring structure
Out of the smoke of unconsciousness
This order is speech
The very Word we know called truth
It cannot be destroyed
Only hidden and feared
For it has always been
In the very beginning was the Word
The Word was with God
And the Word was God
There is one Word
As there is one truth
For they are the same
The Man Christ Jesus
The very Son of God
Hadrian Veska May 2016
Where do those
That once wait run
When lights recede
And time is done?

Who have since birth
In darkness slept
While their ancient
Mother wept

Their home now lost
Among time and space
Beneath the heavens
Swirling grace

And ever more
Does their goddess weep
Behind dead stars
Lost light to keep
Hadrian Veska May 2016
I don't like love poems

I think most of them are awful

Boring and insincere

Yet I write them anyway

Hoping to attain the feeling

That they all so deeply try to express

Love
Hadrian Veska Apr 2018
I walk at night
From where I came
To where I’ll go
I cannot say
Sometimes I feel lost
Without a home
A wandering soul
On the roam
I think of love
And who loves me
Who I am
And who I’ll be
When at last
I’ve figured out
What this thing
Called loves about
Hadrian Veska Dec 2017
My battery doesn't last long
I can't care about others
As often or as well as you do
I need time to be alone

So when you see my smile
Become crooked and fake
Don't let me go on empty
Give me some time to recharge

My heart is not as large as yours
Hadrian Veska Mar 2019
We believe ourselves flawed
That we can never truly change
So we accept the evil we commit
Creating virtue out of weakness
In doing so we accept our flaws easily
Because we have detached the need for repentance
We ask for forgiveness
But refuse to put in the work
To change ourselves
To be anything more
Than just lukewarm
Hadrian Veska Apr 2016
Timeless river
Flowing strong yet slow
White warm clouds
Floating overhead

Sweet babbling brook
Bridge of old stone
Little ones
playing in the meadow

The world is quiet
Peaceful and still
The summer winds whisper
Softly in the trees

The sun hangs low
Hiding behind the hills
thin swirls of smoke
Rise from happy homes

Night comes soon
To blanket us beneath
Far stars to protect us
While we rest our hearts
Hadrian Veska Apr 2016
Over colorless skies
Birds fly through the ground
As the rivers dry
And no one can be found

I walk the path
Under the black sun
As the planets bleed
And their colors run

I can feel watching eyes
Leaving their mark
As they bid me travel
Beyond the dark

So I continue on my road
That's clear without light
As I march ever on
Far into the Night
