Yawning damp corridors
Vacant sunken narthexes
The dull light of candles
And that of a fading sun

A somber hymn
Of dissonant chords
Echoes through the walls
Of weathered and ancient stone

Distant voices call out
Through the abandoned ages
Undefined by time or space
Yet eternally bound within them

A hollow moon rises
Through the stained and dusty windows
Soothing the spirits
In their sepulchral chambers

Bidding them return
Across vast deserts of sleep
To the eternal oasis
Of lost and sable dreams

I have health issues

And can't breathe well
I have muscle pain
So to move is hell
I have a slew problems

And I just want to be ok
I just want to wake up

Happy or excited for a new day
Not tired and alone
With no one to talk to
In an empty home

I wouldn't say I'm depressed
I'm just an average man
One of the rest
Trying to get on their way

To another drab and boring day
Hadrian Veska Feb 2019
I want to be
What I don't yet know
And I know that I
Have a ways to go
On many paths
Both high and low

Yet I am eager to depart

Our destination
Remains unknown
But in my heart
This feelings grown
So long as I'm yours
And you're my own

I know we'll make it there

To the base of heaven's stairs

The voice of one crying out in the desert
The waste places will be rebuilt
The desolate cities reclaimed
Make straight the way
But none have known it
None have sought or understood it
All eyes are shut all ears are closed
The spirit hovers upon the waters
Yet who has perceived it?

Do you not know that the waste places
The desolate cities and the dry deserts
Do you not know that they are you?

Make straight the highway
That the people may return
Make straight the path
That they may be rebuilt
"For a time I was angry with you
I hid my face from you
But only for a moment
In my everlasting kindness
I will have compassion on you"

Make straight the path for the Lord
The highway of our God
That we may return unto Him
From every tribe and people
For He has not chosen one people over another
Let no foreigner who has joined himself to the Lord say,
The Lord will utterly exclude me from His people
For he that follows the Way
The path leading through the desert
Is a son and daughter of God
As their brother was before them
Who Himself built the path
And who Himself is the Way

The path is firm
The highway made straight

Now return

Across vast fields
Fortresses and keeps
Below dark waters
And caverns of the deep

Have I ever searched
For one I have not known
Someone or something more
Than what the world has shown

And throughout all my days
Has this search been in vain
From my early years
To when my hair turned grey

Only too late did I realize
That no answer in this world is free
They all come at a price
A price I could not see

Now that the night comes
And my jounrey's course is run
I am no closer to the answers
Than when I had begun

So many years ago

Sinews and strands
Interwoven memories
Thoughts and dreams
Of both love and loss

Dark constellations
Bound in flesh and blood
The reality of self
Hidden behind consciousness

The only true way to know
Of one's existence
Is to peer deep down
Into the darkness

And find that wicker flame
Ever fragile and fading
A single light among the void
That is the human soul
Hadrian Veska May 2019
Love, will you grow with me
As we become who were supposed to be
Will you follow close always at my side
Despite life's waves and turning tides
Will you be the partner that I don't deserve
The one to guide me and calm my nerves
Will you Love, with your heart and soul
Be with me and make me whole
You're the only one I see
Love will you marry me
Hadrian Veska Jan 2019
E’en Then may it be

that in the end I am set free

From all man’s schemes and dark desires

His rotten crypts and black walled towers

The very ones that compose my heart

My body, soul and inmost parts

I hope for this because I know

A light will come that no star shows

No sun or moon in a receding sky

And then on Him I’ll lay my eyes

The Word that was and has at last

Returned and held His promise fast

To cleanse the Earth and make it new

To rule on high and to imbue

His Spirit once more forever to be

Within our hearts eternally

Ever does he slumber
Put to sleep eons ago
By long dead gods

Realities surge and receed
As nothing more
Than his thoughtless dreams

Few within or without
These realities understand
The great being's power

And those that do
Have all but slipped
Into madness
Me-ig-maza

There is a great sanctuary
Foremost of the earth
Whose great tower silvery white
Rises over all creation
There within dwell those
Who from before all things
Had a purpose chosen for them
From within them those as well
Does one come who claims
Not only to be one of them
But one over them all
A creature in the guise of a man
One too chosen for a purpose
To rend them all asunder
And cast them to the wind
The sanctuary will burn
And its glittering tower crumble
Yet it will be rebuilt
Not of stone, but in hearts
Until they are in one accord
The sanctuary will not be complete

At the edge of the world
There lies a crumbled bastion
Abandoned to the slow decay
Of weather and time

A soft lilting melody
Floats through its courtyard
As pale flowers sway
Teased by whispering winds

Within those mossy walls
Do strange things yet stir
Begotten by a long forgotten magic
Older than the fortress itself

Every night among those flowers
Do old bones rise again
And dance to that curious music
Beneath the raven stars
Hadrian Veska Jul 2021
All things have passed
Or perhaps they will
I can no longer recall
Passing through the void as I did

I know not where I arrived
Or if I am anywhere at all
I have forgotten most things
If I ever knew much to begin with

I do remember a string of words
An inseparable feeling attached to them
"I will never forget you"
Though who said it eludes me

That feeling has not left me
Though the moment has been lost
I must continue on through this void
Wherever it may take me

I cannot betray this memory
That last bright star in my mind
Amid a sea of ink black darkness
For it is all that remains

As I traverse this void
Here beyond all space
I whisper dryly
I will never forget you
Though, I do not know your name

For I know that you remember me

Th grey sands blow ceaseless
Beneath a tired sun
What thrived is now extinct
So long ago begun

The heroes there forgotten
buried beneath the sand
Their bones the only relics
Of that distant dying land

In the forests Menumel
The dark forests deep
Lies a creature alone
Never to sleep

From long days of yore
Has she struggled alone
The last of her kind
In a world not her own

No children to love
Over the growing years
Only hunters and warriors
Without thoughts or fears

Until such a time
In far flung days
A child appeared
In that forest maze

He stood before her
Broken in tears
Scorned by his own
Through out all his years

He wept before her
Expecting the worst
But in that childless creature
Was a heart that had burst

She embraced him close
And softly said
You are not alone
And never will be again

From then on they lived
A strange family
Never leaving each other
Both happy and free
Hadrian Veska Aug 2016
The stars were in her eyes
But behind them
Was something far deeper
An infinite black
Sparsely populated
By ageless phenomenon

I witnessed love and hate
Fear and loss
Happiness, joy
And a plethora of emotions
That I could not describe

I saw in her what it truely means
To be a flawed human being
And I could not help
But love her

He bares a name like his master
Unrivalled in the heavens
Perhaps a great scribe
Or something far more
His true nature
Remains yet a mystery
With his glory shrouded
And the flower of life in his hands

The colors of the evening sky
Run like waterfalls to the earth
The midnight dark follows them
But will never catch them
For it does not wish to

Through the still dark
Celestials peer down
Filling the night sky
With distant calming light
And curious eyes gaze back

Intently watching
Those gods they named above

Down in my sealed off heart
I build a fortress of many parts
With great gates and unbreachable walls
Tall towers and deep columned halls
Measure upon measure to ensure
My fragile heart might endure
Hadrian Veska Jul 2017
Simple shapes
Of turquoise and black
Sheets of oceans
And shattered mountains

The distance invisible
Two dimensions
Refracting infinitely
Back and forth in time

I saw everything
Everything that ever was
And everything
That ever will be

I understood none of it

And that knowledge alone
Put a smile on my face

Far echoes
Resound from distant worlds
Reverberating melodies
Float through time

Ancient chords
Soaked in grandeur
A proclamation
Of what might be
Hadrian Veska May 2016
It was a beautiful morning
I couldn't quite remember yesterday
But the golden sunlight
Whisked  away all my problems

As I entered the kitchen
My wife was making breakfast
She laughed at something strange
I laughed with her too

Soon enough I was out the door
And on my way to work
I watched the brilliant sun
Reflect off of monolithic buildings

I quickly got to work
But as soon as I was comfortable
I noticed a strange man
That I had never seen before

However, I quickly forgot him
And carried on with my work
By the end of the work day
I was content amd ready to go home

Before I got into my car
I saw the man again
The one from the office
Who I couldn't quite place

He motioned me
So I walked over to him
He then took me down an alley
I only now realized existed

He began asking me questions
Like what my name was
And where I lived
I replyed to these questions with ease

He looked about
Both ways down the alley
Making sure no one was listening
Or watching from afar

Then he asked me some more questions
Like who my family was
Or where I grew up
These I could not answer so easily

After a time he motioned to me again
And we walked out of the alley
Onto a street
Where he stopped and looked to me

He pointed down the road
And told me to walk
Not wanting any trouble
I complied with him

I walked for a few minutes
Until I saw a figure in the distance
As I approached I realized
It was the same man I had been talking to

Taken aback by the strange occurrence
I approached the man again
He clearly knew
What I had just experienced

As the sun had begun to set
He spoke more urgently
Telling me something wasn't right
Something was wrong with the world

He told me I had to fix it
But as he continued to speak
His words were drowned out
By the sun melting below the horizon

The last light of day
Crossed the darkening sky
And dipped the towering monoliths
In a grand solar radiance

And then I woke up
I couldn't quite remember yesterday
But the golden sunlight
Whisked away all my problems
Hadrian Veska Dec 2016
I fear death as much as the next man
It's an instinct I cannot ignore
But death also fills me
With a sense of wonder
Knowing that whatever is on the other side
It will be like nothing I've ever dreamed of
Hadrian Veska Apr 2016
A beautiful young woman
Lived alone on the shore
Having lost her husband
In a far off war

Yet everyday she smiled
And walked along the beach
Peering across the sea
To a place beyond reach

In her wistful gaze
Did she hear a shrill sound
And when she turned she saw
A child on the ground

A brown haired boy
Crying in the sand
She quickly ran over
Scooping him up in her hands

She hushed the child
Amd held him tight
As the sun began to set
Leading into the night

She said "Come little one
Listen to the sea
Hold my hand
And walk with me"

His parents had abandoned him
To run off far away
Leaving that poor child
On the shore that fateful day

And though she wasn't his mother
She loved and cared for that child
Who grew up healthy
To be tall, strong and wild

The time came when that child
Free, began to roam
And the woman only smiled
When he departed and left home

Now again she was alone
Yet always happy never sad
She had raised a beautiful son
Of that she could be glad

Years past and one spring day
The boy returned to that shore
With his lovely wife
And the child that she bore

Now she could not hold back
The tears welling in her eyes
Having been alone so long
This was quite a surprise

That boy she had raised
Who was now a man
Smiled back at her
And held out his hand

He said "Sweet mother
Let's listen to the sea
Hold my hand
And walk with me"

I’ve known what I should do
What I can do
And what I will do
In times to come
I know now that motivation
Is not something one should wait for
But something that must be created
With a clear mind and discipline
For without these guides
Motivation drifts and fades off
As a wisp of cloud over the sea
It’s return as questionable
As it’s brief existence
Hadrian Veska Apr 2016
A torn banner fluttered in the wind
As I climbed those ancient steps
That were carved long ago
Into the side of the mountain

The forests and flowers
Were just beginning to bud
The scent of earth and spring
Filled the flowing air

The closer to the top I got
The older the staircase looked
As if it was built down from the top
And not up from the bottom

I took the last step and was hit
By the rising sun in the east
It was warm and especially welcome
On such a brisk spring morning

As my eyes adjusted to the light
I saw a strange sight in the sky
It looked like giant tears
Hanging from the thick clouds

As I focused
I realized it was a city
Dangling from the heavens
And sparkling in the sunlight

I was perplexed
Until I looked down the *****
Past the mountains and the sun
Into an endless pool of stars

Familiar yet foreign
Strange new forms
Repeat a set dance
That I've known since birth

Amid faint phosphorescence
Do they emerge each night
From the rocks and snowy crags
Of a solemn wispy mountain

Ever streaming downwards
Loose in their movements
Until they reach the forest pools
Where spring first arrives

Out to Sea
From the sand below
Hatchling young
Naught do they know
That were it not
For the people there
Great birds would swoop
Borne on the air
And take those hatchlings
To cliff-made nests
To feed their young
And in storm to rest
No, they can not
And will not know
The people there
Of Mrn below
Those white washed cliffs
Protect those young
For love of one
Who's yet to come

The wastes are my home
Beneath a dying star
My family lies safe below
Of them I am no longer

In this way must it be
For hope to live
Beyond the coming night
Hadrian Veska Jan 2017
Frozen moon in deep antiquity,
Locus of the great facility;

Where myriad souls silent wait,
For the long since coming fate.

Stars go out and fall in space,
The tugging of a loosened lace.

They come, they will, and in their hand,
Time lies broken leaking sand.

Little one lost
On the edge of the sea
Little one lost
Hoping to be free

Deep green waters
With an overcast sky
Oh how he wished
That he could fly

Up beyond the clouds
And the world below
Where the sun shines bright
And the stars all glow

With his eyes closed
He dreamed such things
As the rain fell down
On growing wings

Tantalized

They walk around
With blood pouring from their chests
And a spoon in hand to lap it back up,
But it's never enough.
After all, how could they be satisfied,
When their hearts lay on the ground

Charred and misshapen;
Sacrificed,
To the god of nothing.

The future is gone
Lost somewhere
Between the thought and space
The Digital realm elusive
Present around us
But nowhere to be found
Some there within reside
How many none can say
Perhaps all of us
And reality
Just an illusion
Hadrian Veska Apr 2018
The bell tolls in the rain
Trecherously on that cliff face
Calling those yet remaining
To the sanctums within

None who are called
Know to what they are beckoned
But they suspect in their hearts
It is no salvation

The great wooden doors
Of that church are opened
But nothing exits
Save the screams of the lost
Hadrian Veska Mar 2017
In that tower they wait
With limbs of jet black
And cold faces pale white
Reflecting moonlight

In their wonderland
Are they trapped and helpless
Things aren't what they seem
In that poisonous dream

So long has it been
They would never escape
No they sealed their own fate
Clutching at lost hate
Hadrian Veska Nov 2017
Noodles and broth swirl
With specs of oil and vegetables
Around with a turn of my fork

The air is stale and stagnant
Only an occasional rush
Of a breeze comes down from the entrance

There was no one else in the shop
A small ramen pop up
On the edge of the subway platform

People walked busily
Back and forth, up and down
To their trains and cabs above

I couldn’t say who any of them were
But I was fascinated watching them
As I sat and waited for her

I’m sure she never even left
She was probably still in the keys
On a pontoon below the afternoon sun

With the wind in her hair
And some one else’s arms
Wrapped about her

Scan lines video three
Red white and yellow on the CRT
Pop the disc in drop the lid down
Had a bad day let's turn it around

I don't remember it well
But I remember it vividly
Cross legged in the living room
With you sitting next to me
My baggy tee shirt
And socks that don't fit
Your Overalls on
Full tomgirl kit
We played into the night
Until our thumbs were sore
Then went outside for minute
And came back for more

If I would have known
We were making memories
I wouldn't have skipped
On all the necessities

Nostalgia hits hard
Though it didnt show
Nostalgia hits hard
The moment you know
It was only yesterday
Twenty years ago
Now here we are
Where nostalgia hits hard

If I had know what love was
I'd have known I loved you
But all I loved then was Tekken
Metal gear solid and tenchu
I look back at those days
Seen through a scan line
What could have been
If we stayed in 1999

Nostalgia hits hard
Though it didnt show
Nostalgia hits hard
The moment you know
It was only yesterday
Twenty years ago
Now here I am
Hit by nostalgia so hard
Hadrian Veska Dec 2016
If you have no purpose,
Don't sit and think to yourself
At the end of the day,
What a shame it is you got nothing done.
You did exactly what you planned to do,

Nothing.
And sometimes,
Nothing is all you need to do.
Hadrian Veska Aug 2017
Another lifeless corpse
Added to the ever growing pile
Shells in which men once resided
But now they have gone on

The world is full of color
Artificial and dull
The universe is known
But none of it understood

The beauty of life
Is now a passed memory
For none yet remain
Of the old flesh and blood

Yes they have all gone on
Passed out of memory
Seeking eternal life
And in the end receiving darkness

Limitless and absolute
Hadrian Veska Apr 2016
The sun has gone to rest
The sky turns from purple
To a midnight shade of blue

The tall trees gently sway
The scent of fresh pine
Mingles with the smell of the earth

Soft clusters of yellow light
Flash in and out of existence
All around me

The sound of a tranquil stream
Is further dampened by
The rustling of birds in their nests

The world prepares for sleep
And so too shall I rest
Among the now still night
Hadrian Veska Apr 2019
In dreams, I've heard a prince did go
From where he came now sunk below
And never since has he been seen

They say that he was the last of his line
A king soon to be and will yet in time
But that was a long time ago

Since those times have all men strayed
The woven tapestry of history frayed
With no noticeable end in sight

Yet some hold out hope for that absent king
To be borne back to us in those mighty wings
That so long ago carried him away

To that city on the edge of day
Hadrian Veska Apr 2016
Solemn towers
Ornate broken arches
An ancient place
Past all living memory

The curious may seek it
Yet never will it be reached
Though they may walk
To the edge of the earth

Ever visible yet just out of grasp
Perhaps beyond the mortal plane
Some call it the home of the gods
Others fear it and turn away

It is said that one man
Walked his whole life
And near death he stood
At the gates of that place

At his death they opened
And a beautiful feathered woman
Whisked him away
Through the ancient gates

The great gates closed
The moment they entered
Perhaps never
To be opened again

And the sun never set
Nor will it ever rise
In that distant realm
Beyond the waking world
Hadrian Veska May 2016
Molten green eyes
Filled with wonder
Gazing on wanderers
Without time or number

Sleeping at noon
And dancing at night
Elegant feet
Taking to flight

Under the stars
Dreaming of one
Perhaps he'd pass again
Before the end of the sun
Hadrian Veska Jul 2016
The mellow light of dusk
Shines in through cracks
Of curtains and blinds
Faded by time and sun

Old wood creaks
As the house settles and shifts
Dust and particles stir
With every wisp of stale air

A music box plays
Next to a crooked lamp
Whose blackened light bulb
Had long since burnt out

Night draws near
Yet ever so slowly
As the music box continues
Its soft strange tune

And with its final chime
Will the sun then sink
Below the amaranth sky
And into the oblivion of night
Hadrian Veska Aug 2018
Straight gentle
Flowing black hair
The summer sun
A breeze in the air
A tender smile
And deep gazing eyes
Looking beyond
To where my soul lies
Hadrian Veska Apr 2018
I'm sure I knew you
In ages past
When the sun was brighter
And love did last
Beyond the surface
Of empty sweet words
To something deeper
Not felt or heard
And though to those days
I have always been drawn
None now remember
To where they have gone
Yet I am content
Simply to know
Such an age existed
So long ago
Hadrian Veska Jun 2020
Far off and afloat
Through dreams and nightmares
All tethered and tangled together
A clear path is not set
Ever shifting as the snow
That seeks to consume us all

Enough time is not left to decipher
Where the dream ends and reality remains
I fear that time has already abandoned us
As we walk the cold scorched wastes
In search of an atonement
We resigned all hope of attaining

The dream goes on
If one could call it that
The reality of one mind
Stimulates us all in the dark
Only embers remain
As our spirits grow dull
The last spark of light
Withering in our stillborn eyes

I pray the solemn moon
Guides others to our quarry
That though our bones are frozen
Hope will yet remain
In this the night of all dreams
Hadrian Veska Jun 2016
The clock has been set
And it's counting down
To an inescapable doom
That we feel so imminently

But the clock is just a construct
Devised by man to tell the seasons
Time itself holds no weight
In the grand course of things

The clock will eventually break
When midnight is struck
Signaling the arrival
Of humanity's end

In our aftermath
Creation will carry on
As if nothing of consequence
Had even taken place

And truely nothing had
Hadrian Veska Aug 2018
Oh heaven
Above the soil
Where men do sweat
In endless toil
When will you
Descend from on high
To meet our tired
And weary eyes
