Walk your land...
   Eyes to sky
      Azure beauty
         Clouds etheric bright
Rock ashen black
  Trees of umber
    n' greens of grass
      Fresh and alive
Lay on earth
  Smell deep
    the essence
       moist or parched

Remembering to Remember #3

~

I am lost…
wandering aimlessly
among towering pines,
sweeping branches
of shaded bliss
leaving pine cone markers
along a soft needled path

The breeze is cool,
fragrant wisps through
clinging vines braided
in abstract patterns
as I try to gather
my bearings

I can see the sun
through the forest
falling lower in the sky
reflecting on the
calm flowing waters
of this small stream
I have been following
for what seems to be hours

Carp and minnows,
orange, black and gray
swim happily
with little care though
I am becoming worried now,
my body aches from the walking
but it feels good
the air is still sweet
as I hear an owl
in the darkness
of the treed canopy
greeting me

I come to a clearing,
tall grasses sway
and I see the sunset
blooming like a prized rose,
petals awash in bright pastels
on the horizon

I sit for a spell
gazing upon the
wonders of nature,
thinking back on
what I have seen,
what I have experienced
and what I am witnessing
right now and finally realize

I am not lost at all…

Birch tree's thousand little fingers wet with
Early May rain, mist kissed and still.

I know you wish I'd miss you more when
I'm here, but I'm a man of focus mastered.

For now I'll keep my eyes drinking from out
My north wall window,

This view.
These trees and humble hills,

Not even shaking from the force of
A full day's rain.

I don't miss.
Sometimes my hand reminds me of

The weight and warmth of yours in it,
And I lean back knowing you're just as

Mine as when we're touching.
I trust love.

I trust love, the way the birch trees
Trust the skies with their thirst,

The grounds with their hunger,
And my eyes to behold their majestic,

Confident
Beauty.

The tree with a hundred years goes
Fires, wreckage, wind and snows
And bears so well it can't be heard
Not by men, beast or bird

The tree gives as a giver should
It's beauty among us and faithful wood
And the tree, silent to our woes
Stands tall when after all else goes

And the tree with patience practiced as an art
Lives better than us without a heart

I don't care anymore
About long held childhood dreams
Just give me my fields and my forests
Or a rocky perch o'er looking the sea
It's in such places that I can gather my thoughts
And write the words in my mind
Its in such places that I can get lost
Forget the rest of mankind
Here in the solitude away from turmoil
Here my mind is at rest
The smell of the pine trees or the sound of the waves
Tis in such a place you can lay down and rest

Arms outstretched like the branches of a tree
Aspiring to be amidst with those borne of sky.
Gnarly bark, imploring the eyes of another
Weathered and worn... Skin and grain but parched dry.

Twig-like fingers that would bear no leaves.
With open barren palms that hover in the wind.
Longing and thirsty for the tears of rain
Pining for the heavens to wash away all they have sinned.

Spreading disjointed roots dig in,
In touch with the unseen core buried deep.
A tainted trove of lifelong poisons...
They greedily drink and keep.

Lone little trunk... That shoots up strong from ground.
Sturdy and hale, at least to the naked eye.
When in fact it's core is rotting within,
Eaten away by the worm of a single unassuming lie.

Sad fruitless tree...
Standing amidst the green thriving brush.
It dies with the hours baked in sun...
One day it'll fall, consumed by the secrets trapped in a silent little hush...

I walk through the forest
Peaceful and serene
Walking on ****** soil
Never touched or seen

Sunlight shines through the tall trees
Shadows fly by in between the breeze
I hear the hum of a flowing stream
What a wonderful sound, it must be a dream

I hear a bird singing, a beautiful melody
He’s nowhere in sight for me to see
I see the squirrel scurrying up the tree
I see him, he doesn’t see me

Signs of other life
Hoof-marks in the ground
My senses are heightened
To any smell, sight or sound

What a lovely place
Sheltered away from society
I pray it will stay this way
Please Lord, let it be

The forest hides so many things,
the leprechauns,
the fairies wings,
among the life that nature brings,
listen to the warbler sing.
And all along the forest trails,
raindrops pour
as nature sways,
each thing on its own sweet way,
passing with the grace of day.
Capture it inside your mind,
trap it well within your core.
The forest lives
and breaths with time,
always leaves you wanting more.
Lost upon the forest floor.

What is different about your trunk?
Said the Cedar to the Ash.
It's rotten, ere forgotten,
And its branches have long gone.

What is different about your leaves?
Asked the Oak to the Holly.
They're pointed and disjointed
And their colour has gone dark.

What is different about your boughs?
Asked the Poplar to the Yew.
They're leveled and disheveled.
Do you like them? Oh I do.

The sunlight is fanned by your boughs, dear Yew,
Rain makes night seem longer on your leaves, my Holly
Your trunk may be rotten, dear Ash, but it is terribly untrue
To say that it does worse than any other.

The forest lights with sunly sprights
And I will walk among the trees
And hear the sounds and see the sights
Of a nature much more at ease.
I like trees. Trees like each other. Nature is good.
Thanks for all the wonderful comments! I wrote this watching the trees sway from my window, I hope you all love nature as much as me!

The Noose
A gaggle of evergreen
Riverine woodland
Invigorating crisp air
Raging without sound
Sun's glare
Stealthily seeping
Through tree ferns
Crimson winged Turacos
Gliding overhead
Humming melodies
Of memories past
Amidst
Mountain splendour
I found a pocket of nirvana
In the hollow.

Wood of crimson & bone where the dead
lie still, leaves are their burial
Rites they fall from life to
Canvas,
Shroud,
Envelope
The flesh, for the fallen are the
Food of the wood, new life
Reaches up, Roots entangle
Around every bone,
Interweaved,
Disordered,
Chaotic
Lifelessness now scattered
Among the roots of this linage
Of old, new saplings
Now sprung forth from the
Leaved burials that litter the floor,
They call this forest, leaves of blood
As all leaves that grow forth are
Crimson,
Burgundy,
Blossoming
Forth, as if each leaf has life of its own,
Each of the branches growing
Resemblance of ***** fingers reaching
Out to a world, wisps
Encircle,
Envelope,
Halos
Of white mist greet all trees,
As if the souls of the departed
Sleep silently around this gravestone
Of wood, And leaves one again
Fall, not all just one, and this tree with
No leaves, now resting upon the floor
Like the features of bones grow out and forth
As some where in this
Forest of crimson and bone,
A body now rests in its tome of red
This is the home of the dead, where the trees grow.
