Elegy To Nelson Mandela
A nation mourns the passing of a great man
A most esteemed leader of the South African lands
He railed against white rule all those years ago
His colored brothers and sisters followed his tide changing flow
The world has lost a man who so inspired
His courage and grit are to be admired
The father of freedom in true democracy
He spoke the words for his people's equality

Freeze (Terzanelle)
one cannot get down on one's knees
it is apparent that they are unbending
both patellas have gone into a freeze

the discomfort in them is never ending
one's knee joints oft tend to lock tight
it is apparent that they are unbending

their rigidity is becoming a real blight
scrubbing floors is a most painful affair
one's knee joints oft tend to lock tight

these days one's knees are in need of care
arthritis has set in for a rather long stay
scrubbing floors is a most painful affair

one would like the stiffness to go away
there isn't much flexibility in one's legs
arthritis has set in for a rather long stay

oh to have more spring in the knee pegs
there isn't much flexibility in one's legs
one cannot get down on one's knees
both patellas have gone into a freeze

Scar
the Hello Poetry portrait gallery
is becoming full of empty frames
what individuals had a hand
in these harassment games

we've been deprived of many
talented written contributions
the villainous mob most adroit
with their unwarranted executions

blank boxes tell of an almighty
mischief being awfully made
by they who are wanting
to garner every accolade

under a serious threat our
fraternity of poets are thus far
and of seeing unfilled cubes
there leaves a permanent scar

Garlic
a great ingredient
I've discovered for cookery
in the past it was never
added to my recipes
for I wasn't aware
of its tasty properties

recently a friend
introduced me to it
now all my meat and vegetable dishes
are super hits

those bland old recipes
of an era gone by
no longer in my kitchen
do they apply

garlic is now my favorite
cooking additive
and on my crockery plates
long shall it live

the Republican Party
have the best candidate
to run for President
on that November date

patriotic and loyal
are her glowing attributes
she'll competently lead America
with great repute

her grasp on foreign policy
is second to none
she's got a domestic agenda
which is number one

Americans will be served well
under her stewardship
they'll have an excellent person
steering the ship

the White House needs
a woman of her grace
she'll bring fresh air
to the legislative space

ballots will not be wasted
on this lady's latitude
all fifty states must vote
for her rectitude

she'll uphold the constitution
of the USA
as the forefathers meant it
to be this way

Condoleezza Rice has all
the credentials that are required
and she'll be a President

Petrol Prices
with the cost of petrol being so dear
one is forced to drive in low gear
the engine cannot be at full throttle
as it will use more than a seven pint bottle

replenishing the petrol tank is a scourge
and from our wallets it does vengefully purge
it is quite frightening receiving those petrol dockets
for they leave a humongous hole in our pockets

soon everyone will be walking or riding a bike
they'll not be able to take the petrol price hikes
each week we're at the mercy of the oil giants
they are making a lot of dough from their clients

they've got us over a barrel pardon the pun
and we're running scared of their pistol packing petrol gun
public transport is the best option for us to take
at least that will not of our dollars forsake

petrol prices are of the most dire concern
and I can foresee our hard earned pennies set to burn

Cricket Isn't Cricket
the sport of cricket
is no longer a clean game
bribes and corruption
have dowsed it in shame

***** money has walked
onto the cricket pitch
and it does so give
the sporting pundits a severe stitch

ball tampering by the players
and umpires being paid off
these disrespectful actions
causing cricket lovers to fulsomely scoff

the game of cricket has been

he manicures the lawn nice and low

the sound of the mower's droning chime

cutting grass is his favorite pastime

his lawns kept tidy over many years
the grass not allowed to get too long
seems to be sweet music to his ears

he's oft heard singing a barber's song
as he trims the lawn with his old Rover
the grass never allowed to get too long

he takes pride in his patch of clover

are suddenly dying
yet another of our village folk

so may souls taken
in such a short period of time
all of them relatively young of age

we're shocked

news of demise

Permanent Injury
the commander in chief
has a propensity
to use all kinds
of weaponry
his Nobel Peace Prize
is looking rather tainted
as he is a man
who so likes war pictures to be painted
he's stated he'll make a limited strike
on Syrian soil
but why would a so called man of peace
need to become embroiled
is he propping the Military Industrial Complex up
those poor arms traders who require billions
for their impoverished cups
he might yet be making a miscalculation
as to where his fires a missile
for it may be greeted
with not such a friendly smile
the Middle East is a place
where some moderation is sorely needed
there are others who have a divergent view
to the commander in chief
they may take it upon themselves
to act in a certain way
which shall lead to some
very grey days
an explosive situation
is on the horizon
and the ramifications
are too dire
to contemplate
may the commander in chief
not press to the brink
for it may mean
peace on the planet is bound to sink
he must take a level headed approach
to any military activity
as it will mean
that harmonic relations
are in a state of permanent injury

The Weekend
the weekend has just got underway
there will be a cessation of work for two days
one will partake of a little relaxation
and one will put one's feet up for the duration

how I like the weekends coming around
I can stay in bed sleeping most sound
the alarm clock not needing to be wound
it'll be deactivated as I snore on my pillow mound

I love Saturdays and Sundays
those wonderful restful days
I love chilling out and lazing about
of this fact there is no doubt

Friday afternoon is the best time of all
one can clock off from work and do very little at all
should the mood strike me this weekend
I might take the opportunity to ring an old friend

the word weekend
is one which makes me glad
it means that there's forty eight hours
of idling to be had

Benevolent Sunlight
the orphanage's walls
tell a story grim
what went on inside of them
so disturbing
up to twenty children kept in one room
crammed in so tight
together they huddled
both by day and by night
the children's elfin frames
deprived of proper nourishing food
their eyes had within them
little of love's light
they cried incessantly
a cry which implored
someone to deliver them from
the wall's fright
stale ***** and excrement pervaded the air
the odor hovered in their despair
the institutes cleanliness
lacking of hygiene
not much was kept
too well cleaned
these children
shall be impaired for life
for they were caged in a warehouse
of diabolical neglect
by the Romanian authorities

as you tuck your children into bed
tonight
give a thought
for a child devoid
of benevolent sunlight

Broom
what a joy it is
to have a new broom
for it sweeps clean
all of my rooms

the old one had gone
well past its used by date
as the straw in it
did quickly dissipate

working with my new broom
is a breeze
brushing away the dirt
is done with ease

and there is an added bonus
with the broom
I can set it on
low power or on high zoom

I have had many brooms
throughout the years
but none of them
have filled me with many cheers

the present one
is truly a delight to employ
and it sweeps better
than Mrs Troys

Doctor and Mrs Granger
Doctor and Mrs Granger
took Mrs Thrift to the zoo
she was captivated by the antics
of the Zambian gnu

Doctor Granger took a photo of her
outside the lion's cage
he instructed Mrs Thrift not to upset
the lion as he'd go into a rampage

Mrs Granger was going to make a cup of tea
for all of them on their return
but she couldn't boil the water
as there was no water for the urn

the electrical pump on the water storage tank
had blown up
so there was no water at the Granger compound
to fill the tea cups

as soon as I heard about the water pump
at the Granger compound
I phoned Major Rogers
to bring his electrical repair kit around

he took a little over an hour and a half
to fix the ailing pump
so we'd be able to have a cup tea
whilst sitting on the tree stumps

next week there will be a recess
from the Granger tale
as the writer is going to take care
of her mountain load of mail

she appreciates the many good reviews
of the Granger series
and thinks that the fans of the said series
are a lovely lot of old dearies

Disappearing Man
ever
the disappearing man
habitually
vanishing
he stays disappeared
as this
be his will
he'll never appear
ever again
disappearing
is his lasting refrain
his disappearing act
doth aggravate
as he cares not
to be noted on the slate
he vanished
some two weeks ago
and since then
hasn't put in a show
should he decide to reappear
in the coming days
he'll be greeted
with a none too
congenial hooray
All our country's taxpayers are becoming enraged
Bailing out companies which have been mismanaged
Countless millions have been forked out
Dollar amounts which are exceptionally stout
Ever the taxpayer is called upon to cough up
Filling the always depleted company's cup
Giving generously has got to cease pretty soon
Helping them is a cost that's gone well beyond the moon
Injecting our hard earned is too much
Just let them stand on their own crutch
Kick those CEO's into a reality check fashion
Let them not receive anymore of our kind ration
Money has been misspent by our former government
Never ending the out flow it's time for some abatement
Offer not another cent to those ailing companies
Propping them stresses the taxpayer's arteries
Questions must be asked about those per unit costs
Regularly increasing and so high are their imposts
Shores abroad can produce goods for lesser amounts
They run a more efficient book of accounts
Under a burgeoning payout us taxpayers are gripped
Vast savings we'd make if they were nipped
We've been supporting the big end of town for years
X marks the spot where we've been left in arrears
Yonder the companies can take their travails
Zilch is what they'll be receiving from our taxpayer bails
on the adrenalin of popularity they thrive
it pumps within their veins so inflated
if there were none they'd not survive

an accolade won't make them feel deflated
they've got to receive all the bolstering
it pumps within their veins so inflated

always gathering plaudits for a holstering
which brings unto them that air of rise
they've got to receive all the bolstering

the supporter base not going into demise
devotees keeping the pulse throbbing swell
which brings unto them that air of rise

to be the premier acts in a long spell
falling out of favour they'll not easily tolerate
devotees keeping the pulse throbbing swell

much adulation ever liking to slate
falling out of favour they'll not easily tolerate
on the adrenalin of popularity they thrive
if there were none they'd not survive

America wasn't as replete
with endless gloom

is flagging

at will be disrespects
the amendments of the constitution
and the people are becoming
tired of his flagrant execution

with a Republican
at the helm of the ship
America will have
a more astute stewardship

the White House must be
purged of the Obama regime
so the great nation of America
will again positively gleam

with mid term elections
coming at the end of the year
the majority Democrats
should be given the spear

Obama and his mob have achieved
little for the American populous
the time has arrived for them
to board the outbound bus
