Long before the winds carried our metal wings across oceans,
They took feathered dreams to safety.
The oceans cradled generations in warm tides to family reunions,
Off coasts we have yet to discover.
Now it watches as our shores push them away in favor of high rises that bring us no closer to God or the heavens we hope to belong within.
Before the world existed to serve the greedy,
It gave in abundance.
We have made it weary,
Bending like a tired willow against the pressure of our gasping breath.

We are not meant to last,
Our bones will brittle like fresh wood on a late night fire.
Hope being the light will guide the lost to shore.
The sea is not meant for men,
Stronger have been swallowed whole,
From the edges of our earth.

I shall not pass,
For I do not look like them.
I shall not want,
For I am not worthy of having.
Dear God,
I was made by your hands,
But the men of distant lands deem me worthless.
Dear God,
Teach your children to be kind,
My skin burns from their vengeful whips.

Some nights my bones feel like milk,
Pouring into the sheet I lay upon,
Draining me of form.
I become a suit of skin.

To those who feel empty,
You are enough,
Remember the blood that flows within you is pumped by a heart that finds time to love even while keeping you alive,
To those who think the days are too long,
The nights are your friend,
Embrace it like a long lost love.
To those who hold lit candles for lost souls,
Remember that no one is ever truly lost,
You can find them along the lines of your palm.
For those who dream large,
The universe will always expand to allow you space.
For those who love and hurt,
Reconstruct your ribs like a puzzle with too many pieces,
You are too precious to not be complete.

Do not ask your citizens to apologize for you,
For your iron fists and oppressive ways.
Do not ask children to cower in school yards because they can't understand why they're being told to go home,
" I have to wait for my mum to pick me up."
Do not ask friends to shield friends from being punching bags,
From iron fists you support.
Do not ask women to surrender their rights,
Because you as man need to be dominant.
Do not ask companies to shamefully prevent travel,
Because you are iron ****** and dense.
You do not ask because you do not care,
But we do it nonetheless.
While the world sits on the edge of their seats and families cower in the dark. Trump sleeps at home surrounded by men willing to take a bullet for him. We as humanity should be prepared to take a bullet for oppression. He does not ask, he does.

Meet me off the beaten path,
Where lavender grows wild.

Race me through the overgrown grass,
Until we collide in exhaustion,
Our hands sweaty as we reach for each other.

Lay me down slowly under the bejeweled sky,
As you whisper our tomorrows into my ear,
Your breath is the wind, gently wrapping around my neck.

Hold me fiercely when you cannot hold yourself together,
I will be your glue, and your rock.

Even the mightiest oaks bend.

The way you watched as I ran ahead in search of elephants,
Is not the reason I feel in love with you,
On that crisp autumn day.
The way we both agreed on how terrifying it would be to zip line over the man made jungle,
Was not the reason I held your hand so tightly.
The reason I feel in love with you was how excited you were to see the red pandas,
" Like they're ready for a wedding"
The reason I held your hand so tightly,
Was because the butterflies in my stomach were threatening to make me fly.

The last night we spoke it felt like the birds would never chirp again,
The love lost silence after each sentence was what I picture the inside of a black hole to be.
You closed your eyes and cradled your head,
Sunken and broken,
We sat on the edge of our shipwreck at the bottom of an endless ocean,
I couldn’t patch the dams with my words,
The cracks were abundant.
Today I visit the iceberg we hit,
It is still mountainous,
And I am still not ready to tackle the climb.

How terrible it must be for the moon to never kiss the sun,
He must long for her warm touch,
To feel her fingers ignite him.
How many more times can he beg the sea to paint a picture of her brilliance,
Only to be met with " her beauty is blinding."
So he chases her in an infinite game,
Whispering to the star crossed constellations,
Of how much brighter he would shine,
Were he to have her by his side.

Responsibility reminds me of making one trip with the grocery bags.
Long after I have put them down,
The red lines on sore hands remain to remind me i'll be doing the same thing again soon.
My shoulders are strong,
But even as I rest my burdens,
They still burn.

Let me tell you about the days that make Atlas feel free,
When the weight of your world makes your knees shake,
When laying on the ground feels like the only good thing you've done for yourself.

Let me tell you about the nights that make the Artic feel bright,
Where the sun doesn't rise soon enough to remind you there is always another day.

Let me tell you about the feeling of glass against your back as you lean out to feel the breeze of a cool summers night,
Reaching for anything that reminds you that  feeling empty isn't forever.

When we were young we are told to stay away from the edges,
That if we fall we'll be hurt.
As the years pass by we inch closer to the ledge,
Curious of what we were warned against.
We sneak peaks,
Eyes searching, hands jammed defiantly into pockets,
Breathing heavy with red cheeks.
We are taught to search our closets for monsters,
Snuggled between our clothes.
We were never taught that monsters lay in the contours of your face.

November...17? 14...15?
Dates no longer carry your shadow.
I awoke in a panic this morning,
Thinking of how easily the day went by.
I didn't even cringe,
But this morning I awoke with the faint taste of our ashes burning in my throat.
Your name was a linger.
This morning I remembered I had forgotten,
And the feeling was weightless.

Marry me into the spaces in your life,
Because the mountains shift ever so slightly to fill empty skies.
I was once the sky,
Searching barren deserts for mountains.
Until I realized, I am mountainous.
