let's get lost
for hours on end
exploring the city
turning down alleyways
taking long bus rides to nowhere
and buying things that we don't need
from shops that we'll never see again

let's get lost
in stories so old
that the pages smell like must,
pirates and faerie dust

let's get lost
in each other's minds
each and every embarrassing tale
a beautiful one
having a bad sense of direction isn't necessarily a bad thing

new green girls dot the field
expanding in the early summer
pushing nodes
creating medicine
simplicity of farm life
sprinkled with the excitement of a federal raid
magic numbers add to the flavor
rural doctor without the credentials
curing cancer
with extract
and love
revolutionary movement based on independence
flag waving in the smoke
besides, G.W. grew it –
stretching, bending, feeding
caring for
paying attention to
too
sharing energy with the future of medicine
which happens to share the past
with humanity
naturally healing
with help –
her glow is back
and the fight in her eyes shines again
remission
blessed bush bringing my mother back from the brink
with minimal processing –

Sunanda Pati
splayed legs
on the edge of the bed
beaten and waxed
like some cake to be eaten

tied hands
fighting loose strands of black
blown into my face
by some cosmic faraway fan

sliced stomach
dripping of chaste promises
once made on the altar
ones that overstayed

chopped head
dancing in its place
ruining every grace
that this body has on offer

all of me
in so much glee
simply looking at the lie box
with letters from ghosts
love notes from bots
heavy with my reddest thoughts

why stare
like you have owls for eyes
blinking at wood
holding the kind of despair
your being cries
from years in the crust

why stop
with the chiming clock
guilty as you are
shoot those haloed words
and call me a liar
it's your chance to dare

Love is a special, two way street,
On which one day some may place their feet.

To truly love someone you must understand,
Change from them you can never demand.

starlight starbright
first star I see tonight
wish I may wish I might
have the wish I wish tonight*

it takes nothing more than a few
choice words carelessly spoken
to shatter dreams and treasured wishes
things that grew bright and beautiful
within you

so you bend down and pick up the pieces
and in desperation,
glue them back together
to form a shadow of what it once was

but they don't think twice when
it comes to tearing it apart a second time

it doesn't make sense
not to you
not when they're supposed to be the ones
cheering you on
wishing on a star with you
instead of
laughing

you look into the sky
and search the darkness for a shooting star
and when you see one
you smile
but only a little

tired
of fighting a losing battle
of sore throats and swollen eyes from
screaming matches
they've almost won this war

and you look
at whatever hope you have left
a faint glimmering reflection
of what it once was
and with a sigh
the light goes out
you look into the sky
and search the darkness for a shooting star
but you realise
that they too,
are dead dreams
going down in flames

Walls

I am
the only wall you will ever need

                                                    Stop hiding
                                                   Stop fighting
against the wrongs you have committed
things you wish could remain hidden

Shame is just a mask
Guilt a hidden dagger
         stabbing you again and again
                   never letting you get better

The beauty of grace
is you don't have to be afraid
Mercy new every morning
I've taken your cloak of shame

                                        You can hide behind me
because grace is an ocean and
                                   I've already stopped the storm

When everyone says,
                               "be perfect"
My outstretched arms say,
                               "I already am"

When you hide behind a wall
a construct of your own two hands
You limit a grace that is greater

           Shut everyone out
                           box yourself in

It's not about what you can do

                                         It's about what I've done

I'm tearing down your walls
because I'm the only one
you need
grace, walls, perfection, ocean, storm, life, shame, mercy, morning
