Day by day I fritter away
Upholding decorum as best I may
Meet me as you meet — reserved somebody
Leave me as you leave — dull nobody

Dreary, weary, listless, spiritless
A resting spirit clamours to emerge
Unguided, wild, free and seeking
Boldly defying reserved somebody

But how, just how do I unleash this defiant spirit
For it is to cross all conceivable limits
Oh but a mask, of course a mask!
The perfect accessory for this task!

Careless of propriety
Boastful of daring
Acting against my will
Or in tandem with it?

This mask — just now I can't discern
Ponder I do with great concern
Does it shield my identity
Or render truth to it?

So now just what fun in masks
One may ponderously ask

Masks, bring to life fantasy
Fantasy, a realm of our reality
Reality, wherein lies multiplicity
Multiplicity, within each individuality
This poem takes a different view on a mask. Does it shield who we are? Or does it allow us to be who we truly are?

Isn't it ironic fantasy too is part of human reality? A realm revealing psychological truths.

Masks addresses the various facets of a personality. Our fragmented identities. Multiplicity in individualities.

Halloween is round the corner. If you had the chance, who would be the Hyde to your Jekyll?

Paging Dr. Jekyll ,
he’s gotten lose again.
No, no casualties yet,
just a long trail of sin.

Yes, we understand,
control’s not the issue.
I think it’s time for drastic measures,
yes, you know what to do.

What do you mean,
he’s part of your mind?
It doesn’t matter at this point,
he’s too dangerous alive.

**** him dear friend,
or the blood’s on your hands.
He’s hurting people,
and that simply won’t stand.

He’s a monster, a freak,
you’re much better off.
There will be side affects,
but nothing’s gained without loss.

Hello? Dr. Jekyll?
Are you there? Is it done?
Oh God Dr. Jekyll,
what have you done?

Scarfaced stripper
hungup her crackpipe & glitter.
Cashcow kielbasa kisser,
now frigid as a widder.

Of her all a giver like her **** was the Gipper,
but now she's living in her slippers, vaping w/ the vicar.
For up to his moniker, who was the liver?
Jack the Willywhipper! Really willywhipped her.

Smellin' salts you better get sniffin
- you been the victim of a serious willywhippin'!
Anyone get the number of that big rig?
By a serious ***** she been whipped.

Phantopera masque
wrap the willywhiplash,
but marked **** w/ a heart
met her Mr.Darcy in the dark.

Seemed a nice fella, neglected to tell her
alter ego expeller were Jekyll's enema.
Hyde-helicockter of her beauty robbed her;
Mr. Darcy's whopper really Jack the Willywhipper's!
You reach 95, scrimping by like church mice,
but then the very night
you win the lottery,
you have massive coronary:
swings & roundabouts.
Lose your lucky penny,
picked up by your arch-en'my,
but he pops his back out.
You wear the weekend crown,
but your boss is new in town:
swings & roundabouts.
If it weren't so stiff,
canvas would wrap chips
in Vince's time.
But a cench later,
Sotherby's sell 'Sunflowers'
for a trillion demon dimes.
I'm gonna be immortal,
I'm gonna die alone:
swings & roundabouts.
Strings & roundabouts.

Adolf eyeing the Eiffel, Christ on the cross:
swings and roundabouts.
******, B in his bunker; Jesus Prince of Heaven:
swings & schweinhunds.
****** is in Hell, Israel's got Stockholm's:
swings & roundabouts.
If ******'s Hell's himself,
how come that's my hell as well,
and I don't even **** limescale.
But worse wuss Judas abuse jurisprudence
- Dr.Jekyll & Judge Judas hyde behind trust,
30 pieces of silver & roundabouts.
Jesus wept, Judas slept in his Jaguar:
silver linings for downandouts.
Snakes & ladders & roundabouts.

O Swings & Roundabouts Vicar, can I have a word
about my doubts!
O Swing & Boutarounds Vicar, can I have a word
about my doubts!
O Bout & Swingarounds Vicar, can I have a word
about my doubts!
O Round & Swingabouts Vicar, can I have a  word
about my doubts!
Ain't roundabouts roulette of a grazed knee,
but I have nothing against swings...
Horses for courses really.

I’ve longed for so long to be
A part of something apart from me
But the seconds and minutes draw near
Turn into days, into weeks, a year
Just what will it take to be,
Just to be, to be free

Will you be the Adam to my Eve?
Without you I’m incomplete
Just half of what I could be
Jack and Sally or Sid and Nancy
Nobody else can compete
Together we will run free

Let’s write our own twisted love story
Who cares what anyone else may say
We’ll be both the judge and jury
And in our own little world we’ll stay

I want to be closer now
Closer than skin and bone will allow
I want to peel away the edges
To remove all the excess
Be closer than we know how
Just be free, you and me

The Romeo to my Juliet
Without you I’m incomplete
Just half of what I could be
I’ll be Scarlett O and you’ll be Rhett
Nobody else can compete
Together we will run free

Let’s write our own twisted love story
Who cares what anyone else may say
We’ll be both judge and jury
And in our own little world we’ll stay

Will you be the Jekyll to my Hyde?
Without you I’m incomplete
Just half of what I could be
And I’ll be the Bonnie to your Clyde,
Nobody else can compete
Together we will run free

An attempt at a subject I know very little of. My own twisted interpretation of a love story.

After 6 PM,
four glasses of Chardonnay;
Jekyll turns to Hyde.
