i don't want to fall in love
because i'd rather say that
-
love digs its hands deep into the dirt to plant its roots,
to give false hope to the weaklings of mankind that requite is truly attainable
that love lies in the tears of our galvanised hearts, attacking the cracks of our fissured craniums
reminding us of our (now) inexorable incarceration
that love creates waveforms between fragile persons, in its attempt to orchestrate some sort of perfect dissonance
that love declares 'i am in control' (and makes us believe so)
to toy with the pieces left of our already tortured souls.
and that love only breaks us whole,
when our holes were what broke us first
-
than say love was "made" for me and you
;
because to fall in love would mean
falling
(onto your chest to remind me of what we had)
which would be a deathtrap on its own
one i would shamefully not regret
The house broth trickles onto the plywood floor
Filtered by fiberglass cotton candy
A humid breeze slams the oblong door
and knocks over the table I found so handy

This storm has brought my ceiling down on my head
The rafters are surely next to fall
Thunder sings songs with words never said
That entices the slugs to climb the wall

A deathtrap, a battlefield, a childhood home
have fused to form this cocoon of mold
The flies have settled, no longer to roam
and I'm left for the winds to bend and fold

This leaky old roof that Grandfather built
can barely now stand, let alone shelter strays
But if I leave in the night, I drag only my guilt
My body goes wandering, but my dream world stays

Who is this H.P. Lovecraft,
was he even a poet,
this whole industry’s a bloodbath,
I’ve got four aces in my hand and I’m willing to show this,

to who’s pleasure do I owe this,
how can I be the greatest,
when they’ve got me battling ghost,
in this never ending matrix,

I ate the red pill and the blue pill,
maybe that’s why I’m so confused,
plus THT1 should be #1 for real,
but right now it’s sitting at #2,

I’m behind a dead man,
Mr. H.P. Lovecraft,
fck that,
fame is a deathtrap,

who is this H.P. Lovecraft,
not even alive some random published his book,
now he’s at #1 and I’m at #2 worldwide,
for real take a look!

I just published a new book,
take a moment to check it out,
all profits go to charity,
to prevents child abuse and ****** assault,

so not only are you getting an epic book of poetry,
but you're also supporting a good cause no doubt,
because I believe we can change this world for the better,
but we have no time to waste so let’s start now!

Here’s the link to the new book: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I4621OE
For real...
Nat Lipstadt Sep 2017
no way you could know that
I have driven US 80, when
the Pennsylvania Turnpike
was considered a legitimate deathtrap,
and 80 was a god-send

shuttling back and forth tween
Cleveland (o/k/a The  Burning River City) and NYC,
in the crappiest weather man
could just about tolerate,
and 84 was just an
incomplete dream then,
so we one day,
could skip that idlewild,
Passaic, New Jersey,
back in '69

indeed the Pocono deer that
came through the windshield,
luckily, legs first,
after smashing the radiator,
that I dragged by hooves
to the side of the road,
still well recall, for that
was the first time I touched a
living thing dying in my hands

when I broke my arm in
Tannersville one summer night,
they drove me to the big city,
Scranton,
woo hoo,
cause the break was bad ,
they need to operate,
so they left me there,
w/o any anesthetic,
in the hallway(!) till morn
and a "see ya later kid,"
how they did things in a tough place
known as central Penna.,
which now I think of
semi-fondly as the place where
a piece of me was left buried
and I am still alive to swell tell

but people were tougher back then,
even me, a city 13 year old boy,
cause I had dreams of  girls,
wonderful girls, who had powers in their bodies
that could do things to me in the Poconos forests,
that were unthinkable (for them) after crossing
over the Hudson River,
and that was plenty
anesthetizing

so dem my bona fides,

and Now I Will Write
just another overdue thank you
for Balise, who writes
with a coolest heated blazing detachment,
and then at the very end,
IN ALL CAPS,
smacks you on the head
via the heart

writin'
of
this n' that,
Mass and men,
worshipping a river called the Lackawanna,
the bleakness of a not quite grimy poverty,
(I worked in  Republic Steel warehouse)
that made grey a bright color,
and the sun was invisible from October to May,
in a world where people PROUDLY,
clung to their guns and religion,
(you arrogant out of touch Harvardian snob,
Mr. Obama prima donna),
you had to see it to believe it

of
herons and beer cans,
of parents and pain,
so exquisitely,
that I would gladly
drive to Tannersville again,
right now,
if I could, if I could,
yet learn that skill under her tutelage,
which by the by, is why some call me
still crazy, still crazy, after all those years,
crazy from a balise,
a wintry blizzard heating the readers eyes, and
who reads my footnotes
and thus
only this woman,
knows, better than she ever realized,
where his undulatin' poems come from...
DaSH the Hopeful Apr 2015
I hopped in my car
And buckled myself in

      It was a deathtrap
The stress of killing myself was going to drive me to suicide

*If i fall asleep on the highway
I'll dream all the ******* way there
I hope I see myself getting high with all my ******* friends before I go

That'd be my whole life anyway.

Today had been a long day
Licking bird **** off windshields and carving
"Call Samantha for a Good Time!"  in my skin

I found myself within my agression

Naked and in plain view under a hundred shot out street lights with every single ******* person I knew's camera phone rolling.

*Today I stared at myself in the rearview mirror and said "Not today"
And shot myself in the head
Because I would have driven right the ******* a bridge
david badgerow May 2015
right now my browning chest is
propped up with beach sand buried in my elbows
i was dozing off underneath my shades
with the salt spray at my feet
& the seagulls swarming overhead
you asked for a story so i'll tell
you the only one i know
it's about making an exodus
& the accident of my personality:

the last time i was shot at
i was making a collect call at a pay phone to my mother
i was living out of a backpack
                                                    in a hostel
in sticky sweet new orleans
in 2008 post-katrina

after spending half a year without a friend
i decided to live what i write and become
the mythical warrior-poet or
                                                 just a sun-haired boy
fighting with the sky searching for his spirit animal
wearing old wool dress slacks cut short above
the knee i was only cargo trying to get
as lost as i possibly could

they came out of an empty socket shop window
blasting through the doorway onto
                                                             the steaming street
jittery & starving roaring on the collapsing mist
but i'm no one's pigeon crouched behind a sedan deathtrap
poised to flee but with nowhere to go i can only hear
                                                              my own heartbeat
                                                              mother screaming on the phone
                                                              hanging limp

& my own feet beating a new path on gravel through a strange city
when the windows grew lighter &
i slowly emerged from invisibility
in a world sprung new not defined yet
shrouded in what i only assume was
                                                                special magic

for a while i was scared to sleep alone at night sometimes
i heard downer & buzzkill other nights that i cried
                                                                                     beneath the ivories
& i thought i'd die alone if i had to
but i was too young
to be that cynical

now i'm rising like a big owl out of a meadow
finding good new ways to fall apart as lightning
blooms on the horizon & clouds gather unnaturally
into pale blue ribbons & dance in a pinkish sky
& the sunset burns the treeline down
no one else can fix me now
                                                                no one believes in me
but i believe in myself more than ever
the only person i've ever really loved is my mother
& she says i can't make a name for myself writing poetry
but i'm immortal among these words like stars
being blown in plumes of dust across a night sky
i'm looking for a new better place to dive in from
so if you've got a certain star in mind or a secret
cliff-space combination treebranch hangout take me
there or whisper it to me while we're already high
& hugging don't kiss me unless it's hard & in a precious place
because i'm feeling invincible again instead of invisible &
i really really really cannot wait for someone to try &
                                                                                             ******* stop me
Anger shoots through my veins like ******
My blood boils at a temperature my body can't handle
Unfocused
Unable to think or comprehend
Switchblade savior etching death in my wrist
Imagining it's not real
As I watch evidence spill into my hand
Fear, Hate, Betrayal, Anguish
Starved by a metallic holy ghost fulfilling a death wish
Hot black liquid seeps out of my skin
Running cold as it collides with oxygen
Evidence of darkness
Emptiness within
Panic sets in when I catch a glimpse of reality
Ambulance, emergency room, panic as the doctor tries to put the blackness back inside of me
Saving me from a sacriligeous religion
That rescued me from heartache and pain in the beginning
The same switchblade deathtrap
Ready to smite my blasphemy and despair
Faithfully reciting the same galvanized prayer

sick child
robin Nov 2016
i've rationalized every rational explanation
told myself every side to every story i didn't want to hear
you see i've made myself immune
i've conditioned myself to the human condition
madness is a malevolent concept
but if you embrace it, it holds no ill power
this sickness i stole with ***** fingertips
this sickness is me
it rocks my world
but don't ever love a sick child
a sick child like me
its an empty love, like a ghost
someone who's hardly there
in the head
hanging on by a thinning thread
while pretending they have it all together
it's the human condition
the lies that drip from the roof of your mouth and form pools of saliva at the tip of your tongue
and im
looking for a sour truth to digest
something to wake up my senses
from this self preservation indoctrination
accepting the truth as fleeting as it may be
this sickness it controls me
has the wheel, it throws me
it's a certain uncertainty
a
deathtrap
an endless maze inside a maze
im a rotting cage
and i play sick games with myself
i like the feeling of not feeling a little too much
lifes a tetter totter
and your
getting thrown back and forth into extremes
and you are not a silly coping mechanism
you are not a doctors hand sanitizer hand outstretched with a pill
you are something malleable
you are something i could destroy
but i don't want to break you down into nothing
you see that isn't my intention here
please believe me
ive just hurt myself so much
im unsure ill be able to tell the difference.
I was almost convinced I felt something
Bard May 2020
Posturing with a burger king crown
King has a nice ring a nice sound
But as much as I grasp even at my last
Final gasp of life I'll die in the low cast

Eat glass my thoughts are cosmic
But my body is earthly and sick
Thoughts of supremacy flow arrogantly
Reality is that's a fallacy thoughts fall flatly

Big fish in a small pond but just a bottom feeder
Drift aimlessly but wanna think I'm a leader
Talk big but I ride around in a one seater
Really lived that life but never had a heater

I can say proudly I've never caught a body
But quietly I have poisoned somebody
Dope dealin addiction feeding on the block
Just selling mush and that smoke never rock

Still took mans paycheck when the rents due
Slid em the product and fed their flue
Killing em slowly for profit in my pocket
Small time pounds I'd stock it and move it

Re-up from a college girl with Mexico plugs
Still worked that 9 to 5 could never be a ****
Just a petty criminal surviving on the scraps
Get fast food while bumpin gangster rap

I'd shoplift eggs when money was short
When rice and beans was all I could afford
Needed more, desire turned me sour
Shift managers had me scraping to petty power

Delusion of grandeur in a dish pit it didn't sit
Couldn't humble myself almost bit it
Pride killed my mind, body dead in the grind
Joints poppin body failin, drugs melting mind

Suicidal thoughts when reality didn't match
The life I wanted was always out of reach
No chance at a home and a that Mercedes
Just traps debts and loans maybe I'm crazy

Maybe I'm bad with money, that's funny
Got help from affluence got lucky
In one year saved 15 racks once out of the trap
Glad I never took that shot at a dirt nap

Who knew the answer to making money
Wasn't work or effort just being lucky
Knowing somebody not trapped with a hand out
Took it and pulled myself out of the ****** plot
