The wind carries a whisper
Of your love.
Lucky wind.
niamh Jun 2015
Her poetry is a song
Sung by the earth itself
For Donna - who loves nature with a passion unparalleled **
niamh Jun 2015
Try as I might, and I really do
No words can convey my love for you
niamh May 2015
My heart's no prize fighter.
It keeps taking a beating.
niamh Jun 2015
She controls the tide
In her mysterious way
And lights the night sky
At the end of the day.
Whether she be blood red or bright white
She's the undisputed lady of the night.
Her children gather around her,
Pinpricks of history
To further illuminate her beauty

Nocturnal creatures
Eagerly anticipate
Time to reign supreme
niamh Jul 2015
Hammering on the roof
Of this cavern of echoes
Like a thousand
Drums beating in unison
Prompting me to march
In a single person parade,
A celebration of rain.
niamh May 2015
You let your
Mask slip
And your true
Colours showed
niamh Aug 2014
Golden threads tie me to you,
Ever so gently I test their limits.
A punisher of self; I can't stop.
How much more can they take?

A life devoid of sorrow,
The master of my own misery.
The paths are set.
It's time to pick one.

Time to let happiness live here.
Time to bask in the love of others.
Time to laugh, instead of cry.

Don't ruin it.
Don't blame others.
Don't drag yourself back down.

You win.
Overcoming addiction!

Silenced, in awe,
They watched her paint,
Bringing life to a canvas.
Bold colours
And fierce brushstrokes.
They marvelled at her masterpiece.
Me, I watched her face as she painted,
The emotions sweeping over her,
Bringing life to the canvas she was.
And I was humbled
And I was in awe
And I marvelled
At the true masterpiece.

He was a ***** dog.
She had the ****** snacks.

I climbed a tree today
and sat atop a branch
I viewed the world in a brand new way
that I'm sure cannot be matched.

The tree spoke of a history
I could barely imagine.
Steeped in rich mystery,
My gorgeous old oak mansion.

Feathers sprouted from my skin,
Changes in every cell.
I was born a bird. I tried to fly
But it did not end well

Early in the evening
She teases.
Hiding in the shadows,
Winking playfully.
As she slowly
Sheds
Her inhibitions
And stands before me
In all her wondrous glory.
Brazen and proud.
Doubts
Tossed  aside on the wind.
Clever little luna.
You don't have to
Play games
With me.
I'm at your mercy.

A message in a bottle
Hope within glass
Set upon relentless seas
With a vague destination
And no preparation
But the desperate wish
To connect with a stranger
You will never touch
And yet you struggle
To speak to your neighbour

A morning sky
touched by the very hand
of Midas,
casting golden glow
of untold riches
niamh Jun 2015
They are the gnarled old men of the woods,
Standing sentry over magical lands.
Children swing from their arms
And lovers embrace at their feet.
Families gather in their shadows
To break bread and relax
And solitary figures lean against them
Taking strength from their strength.
They are the gnarled old men of the woods,
Standing sentry over magical lands.
We owe them our lives
niamh May 2015
They lie amidst
Twisted sheets
Legs entwined
And cigarettes in hand.
As the moonlight
Casts a glow upon her skin
He smiles to think
What fun it is to sin.

He thought he was the man,
Two girls vying for his attention.
He chose the one more travelled by.
Now he has to take his tablets.
niamh May 2015
In that beautiful
Moment of first waking,
When the watery sunlight
Filters through the window
And coaxes my eyes to open,
I can nearly forget
The screams in the middle of the night,
Can nearly forget
The feeling of fresh tears on my cheeks,
Can nearly forget
That your side of the bed lies empty.
Nearly, but not quite.
And the pain of remembering
tears my soul apart.

Gleaming morning dew
Kisses the flowers awake
Intimate mornings

Drink in the morning
Appreciate the wonder
Of the life we live

The single flower
Placed upon the rocky path
Tells of pain and loss.

The silent ocean
Cannot be charged with ******
For the life it took.

Top of the food chain,
Mortal men gasp their last breath
As she engulfs them.

Fooled by her silence
The respect for her power
Was left on the shore.

The music swells
To an almighty crescendo
And I stand alone
In an empty room,
Arms held aloft
To welcome the
Sweep of emotion.
Hands dancing on the air,
Conducting
An invisible orchestra.
Tears seeping
Through closed lids.
Drained.
Exhausted.
Exhilirated.
In the moment.
niamh Jun 2015
I made you.
But in all honesty,
You made me
feeling the love for the family in a big way today :)
niamh Jul 2014
The opeining of eyes and my heart fills with love,
The waving of arms and I cry.
A miracle.  An angel sent from above
For whom I would gladly die.

The first smile, the first laugh, the first tooth.
Memories all carefully filed.
You are the most precious thing in my life
My beautiful; my gorgeous; my child.

A devilish temper, an angelic smile
An army of curls, thick and glossy.
The warmth of your body as I hold you the close.
The queen, undeniably bossy.

I'll hold your hand for as long as you let me,
Protect you and hold you close.
I'll love you as long as there's breath in my body;
This is my solemn oath.

The first smile, the first laugh, the first tooth.
Memories all carefully filed.
You are the most precious thing in my life.
My beautiful; my gorgeous; my child.

The gentle kiss
Of a lover
And he earned
Thirty pieces of silver
niamh May 2015
She came in a world of pain
Grinding my bones to dust
And setting my body on fire.
Fear and despair
Fighting each other
And waves of nausea
Threatening to knock me down.

And then it was over
and I knew.

I would go through all
The pain again (and more)
If it meant
That I got you.
Birthday poem for my beautiful little girl
niamh Jun 2015
Death smiled at you and grasped your hand,
the gentle grinding of bones,
ignoring those gathered by your bed
who spoke in whispered tones.

And you, you smiled right back at death.
You did not shed a tear,
as you took your last laboured breath
death whisked you away from here.

To a place where you would feel no pain,
and your wrinkles were no more.
Where you were young and free again
and would be evermore.

And while I miss you everyday,
I would not be so brutal.
To keep you here in your broken body
would only have been cruel.

When I look upon the stars
that keep our worlds apart,
I know that you are never far.
You live on in my heart
For my sorely missed Granny.
This was quite tough to write  :(

We've found a home
Where people share,
Show their support
And love and care.

Where we wear our hearts
Upon a sleeve
And no-one mocks us
For being naive.

Where we share our laughs
And shed our tears,
Confess our hopes
And innermost fears.

Where we reach out to others
Near and far
To tell them their work
Is well above par.

Where we love the passion
That flows through the screen
And how we interpret
What each word means.

I love it here.
I can be myself.
So I toast my poet family
.... Good health!!

*Sláinte
Bit of an immature one, but had to post it.  Ps. Sláinte is an Irish toast to your good health
niamh Jun 2015
First there was the earth
Then there was me
Then there was you.
Everything else was just a blink of the eye of history.
For all my beautiful family, but more specifically for my daughters **

When hope is lost
And the map is torn,
When you bear the cross
And are crowned with thorns,
When the love has gone
And the tears dried out,
When your steadfast faith
Has been turned to doubt,
When your joy is done
And you smile no more,
When you long for the sun
But the rain does pour,
Know that I walk with you,
You will come to no harm.
And should you get too weary,
I will carry you in my arms

The smallest seed
Planted in the deepest soil.
Nestled safely
In earth's womb,
Protected from
All danger,
Or so we
Foolishly believed.
I weep for
The flower
I will never see.
niamh Jun 2015
These scarlet pages
Soaked in sadness
Tell a story
Of pain and grief
Unspoken.
Today, we write
Upon clean sheets.
niamh Jan 2015
The night stretches before me
Dark and unforgiving
Beckoning me
Into it's complete silence.
It terrifies me and draws me in.
My jaws aches from clenching
Against my screams.
It's relentless in it's pursuit
Of my soul.
My fear knows no bounds.
Morning arrives
And I sigh with relief,
Sit back
And wait for the night.
niamh Jun 2015
Dusk comes creeping in
Shadows melting at the touch
Light softly fading.

Sandman rides the moon
Blowing kisses through windows
Towards sleeping babes.

Stars paint a picture
For those who care to admire
Night's beauty anew
niamh Oct 2015
The moonlight trips
Over the still lough
And the sounds of the night
Are silenced with awe.
She is the priestess,
Listening to confessions
Bred on the dark side
Of the moon.
Absolution is found
In her purifying light.
niamh Jun 2015
Under the pale light of the moon
I will dance with the shadows
To the sound of your poetry
And the stars will play the piano
For all you beautiful poets x

The nightingale sings
A melancholy lament
For it's broken home
Too many forests being destroyed
niamh Jun 2015
The eye of night's sky
With incandescent beauty
Bathes us in silver streams,
Tickling our dreams to waking.
Calling creatures of the dark
To bow down to her light
Another moon poem. I do love it!
niamh Jul 2015
My eyes snap open
Wrenching me back
From the abyss.
Heart racing
And palms sweating,
A physical reaction
To imagined fear.
The realization
That it was only a nightmare
Provides meagre comfort
As the mind
Still struggles
Against what it saw
In it's own theatre.
The flashbacks
Will taint the day
niamh May 2015
time to let go
of misery and sorrow

..........................

well, until tomorrow
niamh Aug 2015
A new day
Full of old thoughts,
Clamouring to be heard.
An inner monologue
Stuck on repeat
The needle scratching
On my skull.
I long for silence
But wouldn't know
What to do with it.
niamh Jun 2015
I walked the desert for a millenia
Sandstorms crushing the air from my lungs and thieving my voice,
Drawing nails of grit down my eyes
And invading my mouth
Until I became a woman of sand.
When all hope was lost
An oasis
Before me appeared
And I drank my fill.
My lungs are fit to burst.
But I can't stop drinking.

She refuses to live her life in chains.
She's free.
niamh Jun 2015
He's no poet.
His words are brash
And his actions are blunt.
He sees blocks of colour
Without varying shades.
He worships at altars of science
Rather than mother nature.
He shys away from
Overwhelming emotion
And hides behind
Facts and figures.
He's not a hearts and flowers
Kind of man
More spleen and moss

I was a boat, lost
Upon a treacherous sea.
You were my lighthouse
Genuinely don't know where I'd be today without my husband x
niamh Jun 2015
I place a crown
Of beautiful blooms
Upon her golden head.
To me,
The blooms are a pale
Imitation
Of her natural beauty.
All she sees
Is a thorn
Among flowers
Trying to show my little daughter how beautiful she is after a boy told her she was fat yesterday & her heart was broke the wee pet **
Now
niamh Jul 2020
Now
In the sunshine
the breeze licks
my skin
sweet tantalising kisses
the smell
of flesh longing
for the flesh of others
The shadows
nip at my heels
happiness
is a fleeting
distraction
We have been fooled
and fools
once more
niamh Aug 2015
The sun will
Give way
To the moon,
This day will
At last
Be done with.
And my
Hollow heart
Can learn
To beat
Once more.
niamh May 2015
Beneath the silver
Sun of night's sky
He whispers sweet nothings
And promises the moon.
She is all woman.
She is goddess.

Beneath the harsh
Light of a burning ball
He mutters platitudes
And promises nothing.
She's a little girl.
She has much to learn
