If I could write
Like you
I would have
Kings at
My feet
And would
Rule the world
With my tongue
For all the poets (unnamed) whose poetry just astounds me!!!
niamh May 2015
I love
How you think
Im sweet
And succulent,
So I beg
You
Not to peel
Back the layers
For I fear
You'll see
I'm rotten
To the core
niamh May 2015
He was an onion
And she had extremely sensitive eyes
niamh Feb 2016
Come gently twilight
Dance softly on silken skin
Sweet breathless wonder.
niamh Nov 2015
I sit on the step
And draw
The cold around me
Like a blanket,
Savouring the numbness
And the heat
That begins within.
Swallowed by the night
Drunk on wine
And stars.
Hot tears on cold cheeks.
Seasoning for
Chapped lips
Stinging
Bringing fresh tears.
I take refuge
In the silence,
Under the gaze of
Sympathetic eyes.
My friends.
My constant companions.
Drunk on wine
And stars.
niamh Dec 2015
Angry swirls
Of blacks,
Dark clouds
Rolling in.
Swept by
Desperate hands.
Claw marks
On the canvas.
Kissed by
Gentle strokes
Of soft pink
The promise
Of a sweet sunrise
Breaking through
The clouds.
This is my
Painting of love.
niamh Jun 2015
She cried for you
And all you could do
Was extract the salt
From her tears
To rub into her wounds
niamh May 2015
I pale in comparison
To the girl in the photo
Who is alight with
The promise of things to come.
Who doesn't yet know real love
And so doesn't know real pain.
Whose skin and soul are pure
And without scars.
Whose faith in humanity
Is yet to be tested.
Who has yet to discover
The best
And worst
Parts of herself.
The girl in the photo
Is fading over time.

So how do I still
Pale in comparison?
niamh Aug 2015
The water falls
on the wings
of the butterfly,
weighing her down,
dragging her down.
Fighting for flight,
she struggles.
Her vibrant colours
diluted, now
pale imitations.
With grim determination,
she shrugs it off
and flies higher
than before,
but her colours
are forever
muted.

A self-proclaimed
Paradigm of virtue,
Her body
Aches to sin
niamh May 2015
I brought the matches
And you lit the touch paper.
The flames consumed us.
First attempt at a haiku
niamh Jun 2015
The pebbles line the shore
Like a congregation
Of ocean worshippers.
An array of colour and size,
Their diversity a testament
To the beauty of the rocks.
And though they are dwarfed
By neptune's tabernacle,
Their beauty is merely enhanced
niamh Jun 2015
Pen and paper come together
in a bewitching marriage,
dancing across the ages.
Waltz with thoughts
born of love and romance.
Tango together
wrapped around each other
with fiery passion.
Two contemporary dances melded together
to form a new genre.
A marriage of hopes and dreams
niamh May 2015
I will resurrect myself
from fractured hopes
and splintered dreams
niamh Oct 2015
She was as light as a feather
Carried on the sweetest wind.
A tonne weight locked
Around my fiercely protective heart.
As sure as an apple falling from a tree,
She brought uncertainties in abundance.
Physics had no question
For the answer she gave.
niamh Jun 2015
Don't look down
At us
From your lofty
Palace in the sky.
We are the pillars
That hold you high
niamh Jun 2015
I stand upon my stage
A one-woman show
And deliver a solliloquy
Of self-judged epic propotions.
I let the curtain fall
And wait, while the tension
In the audience rises.
I step out slowly, regally
And await the
Adulation
Adoration
Applause
As i bow like a swan
To the thunderous sound of

Nothing
niamh Sep 2014
Pour your heart out
On a whim
Time to be judged,
Sink or swim.
It's so tough sharing your heart & soul with strangers, yet, bizarrely, not as tough as it is to share them with those closest to you. X
niamh Jun 2015
You've never met me
But you know my soul.
You read my emotion
And offer support.
You feel my heart
And do not judge.

Poets should run the world
I have found nothing but love, support and happiness on this page
niamh Jan 2015
If i could sing
I'd sing a thousand arias
That would melt your heart.
If i could paint
I'd paint a thousand pictures
That would set me apart.
If i could dance
I'd dance a thousand routines
That would grab your attention.
If i could do comedy
I'd tell a thousand jokes
To ease the tension.
But that's not me
It wouldn't be true.
Don't try to change me,
I wouldn't change you.
You know my heart
You know my soul
You know exactly
What makes me whole
So pass me some paper
Give me a pen
Give me support, some peace
And then
Lock the door,
Switch off the phone
And watch as i
Come into my own
niamh Jun 2015
The mundanity of
Everyday life
Is eclipsed by
The beauty
We see in the
Most mundane of things
niamh Jul 2015
A fist clenches
Around my stomach
When I look into your eyes
And a new old stranger looks back.
The young old you never said goodbye.
And now I tell you I love you,
And now you will forget.
This one's about my poor mum who has alzheimers :(

I sink into
your shallow waters
and still
find that I
struggle to swim
niamh Jun 2015
She has sapphires for eyes
And she's precious to me
niamh Oct 2015
I wished I was
The person
That you wished
I was.
Rosy wallpaper
And proper
English pinkies
Ladies drinking tea.
Profanity a nightmare
Of the lower masses.
Kick me in the shins
With proper
Steel toe caps.
Your heritage
Doesn't dull the pain.
But my wishes
Are saved
For the obtainable.
I will never
Be that lady
Nor
Would I want to be.
niamh Jul 2015
Elbow deep in soil
I place my fingers on earth's wrist
And feel the pulse of nature
As it hums in my blood
And vibrates my bones
niamh May 2015
Much like a puppet on a string,
I let you tell me what to do.
How I moved, what I said,
were all controlled by you.

You painted a smile upon my face
so all who looked who would see
that we lived our lives together,
in perfect harmony.

But wood is not my favourit look
and so I cut the strings.
I wanted to walk all by myself
and longed to spread my wings.

And now the smile's not painted on,
but genuine, warm and true.
I stand up tall on my own two feet
and none of it's down to you
niamh May 2015
I wasn't broken
So why did you try to
Fix me?
I wasn't hungry
But you kept feeding me
Lies.
I wasn't paranoid
Until you gave me
Reason to be.
Why were you never
Satisfied
With me?
I thought you were
An angel
Sent from heaven,
But it appears
You came
From the opposite
Direction
niamh Jun 2015
If it resonates
With just one person,
Touches their soul
And tugs at their hearts,
Then who are we
To say it's not poetry
niamh Jun 2015
Bury my smile
And silence my laugh.
Let my chin drop
And my shoulders sag.
In the absence of company
I remove the vestiges
Of the person they think I am.
The last of the great pretenders.
niamh May 2015
She stands on
Mountain tops
And screams until her lungs
Beg for mercy.

But her shouts
Are torn to pieces
By careless winds.
And what reaches their ears
Is but a whisper.

She begs, as if from behind
A plate of glass,
But they see a smile
And hear a laugh
For that is what they want.

Will no-one see
Beyond this facade?
niamh Aug 2015
A broken mirror
Holds a thousand
Eyes.

Shattered images
Of confused
Components.

Witnessing
From angles
Anew.

The struggle
To recognize
True self
Is infinite.

And the
Reflection
Is never
The same.
niamh Jun 2015
I will not let the shadows
Of past mistakes and regrets
Cast a blight upon my life.

Each one of them has contributed to the person I am today,
But none of them define me.
niamh Oct 2015
As she rises
In the blackened sky
And the waves
Meet the shore
With a gentle sigh,
She lays a tender kiss
Of silver light
Upon ocean's breast
Of anticipating crests.
And the lovers
Are reunited.
niamh May 2015
I took the icy
Crystals
From around your
Heart
And made myself a
Necklace
Lest you try to
Stab
Me with them again.

Who's a clever girl.
niamh Aug 2015
Shoulder to shoulder
These young men,
Boys,
Stood for the rights of all,
Thumbing their noses
At the iron fist that crushed
Their people's heart,
Giving voice
To those rendered mute
And heart
To those without hope.
Shoulder to shoulder
These young men,
Boys,
Stood while bullets ripped
And cannons bellowed
Until they could stand no more,
The word surrender
Unheard and unspoken.
Shoulder to shoulder
These young men,
Boys,
Lay at peace.
They lit a spark
That ignited a revolution
And the dreams of giants
Were realized
With the sacrifice of
These young men,
Boys,
Legends.

You're a riddle.
I'm too exhausted to figure it out.

Spreading light over the land
Golden glow supreme

He loves women
As much as he loves
Himself
Promising her the moon
While handing the stars to another.
A consumate poker player
They never see the truth
Hidden within his eyes.
If he kept one eye on the table
He'd see she has upped the ante
And her heart's at risk
niamh Dec 2015
In poetry I find peace
And a voice that roars
niamh Jun 2015
The impervious nature
of humankind littering the beaches,
painting a repugnant scene
upon a breathtaking canvas.
Paper wins again.
Cannot stand when people drop their litter at their *****!!! mini-rant!!
Rot
niamh Sep 2015
Rot
Cobwebs guard
The memories
In a musty attic
Where each step
Is a risk.
Dust claims
What once was precious
And the smiles
In the pictures
Fade
With every passing day.
Weak watery light,
Filtering through
Splintered beams
Cannot revive
What has already
Been left
To rot.
niamh Aug 2015
With intentions
Dark as coal
They light a fire
That advances
Like a disease
Without vaccine,
Spreading ash
Across the light
Of the sun,
Turning day to night,
And a cold
That sinks to
The marrow of bones,
Never letting truth
Get in the way
Of a good lie.
niamh Jun 2015
Little whispers
reverberate like thunder
leaving devastation
in their wake
niamh May 2015
I would take
Your pain
And make it
My own
One for my beautiful daughters
niamh Jun 2015
In a waking dream
The stuff of nightmares
Slip past the guard
Like a swarm of insects
Pillaging the skies
Threatening to block the sun.
Turing the seas red
With the blood
Of unborn joy
And shaking the earth
To it's core
With the misery
Of a combined population.
I know this is a bit 'depressing' but it just seems I can't turn on the tv without hearing something sad that plays on my mind all day!
niamh Aug 2015
Where they poured cement
in an attempt to turn the world grey,
the seed finds a crack
from which it bursts forth,
petals unfurling
in glorious revelation,
rushing towards the sun
in exaltation,
breaking borders
and denying monotony,
standing tall,
a velvet fist
raised in victorious salute.

It's the same old story
In a different book.
Diverse covers
And altered bindings,
Mismatched fonts
And dissimilar ink,
Clashing papers
And opposing words,
But the same old story
In a different book.
niamh Jun 2015
I am but a grain of sand
On an expanse of shore.
Insignificant
Infinitesimal
Inconsequential
Irrelevant

But if I were to leave
The whole shoreline would change.
Perhaps in no major way
No astounding way
No amazing way

But it would change
niamh Sep 2015
The sand dunes undulate
To the fading music of summer,
Shimmering softly
In the light, gently dying.
Longing for heat
In the cooler days.
Searching inexorably
For the comforting
Arms of the ocean,
So close,
Just out of touch.
Fingers touching but never grasping.
Alone beside each other.
Achingly lonely without the other.
