***
A head lain upon a pillow
A heart spilled upon the sheets
A dream made on soft cotton
A nightmare born on ripped satin
A child conceived beneath the quilt
A purity stolen in the dark
A life made under watchful stars
A death brought by the morning sun
niamh Apr 2019
Did you hear the poem
I wrote about you?

Roses wrapped with thorns
and coal on your smile.

The sweet caress
of a stinging slap.
Beautiful words
smothered with barbed wire.

Dr?
Mr?

With whom am I speaking today?

How didn’t you hear
my poem?

I shouted it
in my loudest whisper
niamh Nov 2015
She crawls through miles of dirt.
Breaking ground with bloodied fingers
And viscious intent.

My weakness is a light in the fog.
She finds me unerringly.
Nowhere to run.

My doubt fuels her
Voracious appetite.
Her teeth flash at my throat.

Vindictive *****.
Addiction.
I can never bury her deep enough.
niamh Jun 2016
There lies night
With a cape of fear
Drowns the dreams of those
Who dare to step near.

And here lies the day
In shimmering gold
Bolsters the hope
Of the brave and bold.

But the line between
Is as solid as air,
The loss of a smile
And the will to care.
niamh Jun 2015
She works all day in a dead end job
And the money is not the best
The boss is a bit of a pervy ****,
Keeps staring at her chest.
Laughing too loudly, at unfunny things,
And tipping her the wink,
Hiding the lines of his wedding ring
Or so he likes to think.
Too-tight jeans and garish shirts
And teeth unnaturally white.
She'd like to kick him where it hurts
Even dreams of it at night.
He offers to take her to a bar,
Wherever she'd like to go
And he'd drive her home in his flashy car,
So nobody needs to know.
She nods her head and smiles her thanks
And makes a discreet phone call.
Her boss is as thick as two short planks and is about to lose his *****.
They enter the bar, he sees his wife
And knows he's out of luck.
He's either going to lose his life,
Or his wife's going to make him a ******
niamh Aug 2015
She reminds me of
The girl I used to be
And I weep
For who
I could have been
But smile
For who
I have become.
I look back no more,
My sights are set
Ahead
niamh Oct 2014
She held my hand
And dried my tears.
Comforted me
And eased my fears.
Yet now she struggles
To remember my name.
God is playing
A cruel game.
She's not here,
But she's not dead.
The future fills
My heart with dread.
She lives in her memories,
Trapped in the past.
The illness has taken over
So fast.
But I smile with her
And lend my ear
Because one day she
Will no longer be here.
niamh Jun 2015
And I saw
The endless possibilities
The untapped source of love
The well of dreams unrealized
The kiss of unknown angels
The notes of songs unsung
The memory of those who've gone before us
The hope that fills my heart
The love that threatens to break me
You opened your eyes
And I saw
niamh May 2016
I beg you dear father,
Please do not scold.
I was a good boy -
Did what I was told.
I held my fear,
I kept my head
And when he was near
I shot him dead.

Then a bullet found me
And as I fell
On a one way ticket
To my personal hell,
I looked at my enemy
And thought of you.
Realized we all bleed red.
Who knew?
niamh Jun 2015
Her words
Rip across the page
Like bullets
Trailing blood
And broken promises.
Yet there is
Something
Disturbingly peaceful
About unleashing
Her anger
niamh May 2015
The band tightens
Around my chest
And I struggle to breathe.
Tears build up
Behind my eyes
But I cannot cry.
The room closes
In upon me
But I cannot move.
He asks me
What's wrong
But I can't find the words.
Locked in a cage
Of my own design
And I've lost the key.
Let me drink myself
Into oblivion
That I may forget
Where I am
Who I am
How I am
niamh Dec 2015
I am shrouded
In forced laughter.
Chainmail with
Weakened links
Of bitter tears.
A suit of armour
Grudgingly,
Necessarily,
Worn on a straight back.
The weight of
Expectations born
Of a weary soul
Will not bow me.
The true steel
Lies in my heart.
niamh Jun 2015
Flowers in full bloom
Along with freshly cut grass.
Sweet smells of summer
#haiku #summer #smells
niamh Jul 2015
A merry, mirthful clown,
I came upon a town
Where the stench of despair
Hung heavy in the air
And the ghosts within the town
Wandered aimlessly around
******* dry the joy of others
Delivered with the kiss of lovers.
No laughter can be heard
Or the trilling of the birds,
Only the silence of the tomb
In this ugly, poisonous womb,
Giving birth to fear and sorrow
With no hope of a tomorrow,
Spreading illness and infection
Eradicating all affection.
And though I long to leave,
I am granted no reprieve.
A sad and lonely clown
I cannot leave this town.
The despair of others can so easily drag you down
niamh May 2015
Doomed from the
very beginning
but at least
we tried.
niamh Jun 2015
Oceans unexplored
And planets undiscovered
Lie within her eyes
I get lost in my daughter's eyes on a daily basis
niamh Jul 2015
The apple tree
Bore rotten fruit
And blamed it
On the garden
Refusing to
Acknowledge
That her
Shallow roots
Could also
Be at fault
niamh Jun 2015
In the still of night
I hear my own heart beating
For him, only him
Happy anniversary for tomorrow hubby :)
niamh Jun 2015
Diamond tears
trip down ivory cheeks,
running rivulets
through ruby lips
before pooling
in palms of alabaster.
She paints a picture
of beautiful sorrow.
Would she still cry
if she could see
how I see her?
niamh Jul 2015
The jungle drums beat
With a maniacal fervour
And their secret shame
Becomes fodder for the masses,
The hidden cannibalistic tendencies
Of our kind,
Ignorant of dignity's
Desperate struggle to survive.
Pride becomes a common condiment
And the ravenous hunger
To belittle others
Is sated at last.
niamh Jun 2015
He found the shape of angels
In the curvature of her body,
smelled the sweet scent of heaven
In the hollow of her neck,
Heard the harps of cherubs
In her honeyed voice
And tasted eden
On her cupid's bow.
And when her pain
Licked him like dancing flames,
He rode a wave of ecstacy
Toward a hellish nirvana.
niamh Jun 2015
Look beyond the nettles
And you will see the roses
niamh Jun 2015
Surrounded by birds
making orchestral music
I soar high with them
The birds have been helping to brighten an otherwise dull workday for me today :)
niamh Aug 2015
I look in
The mirror.
I bare my teeth
But she won't
Back down.
I turn my back
To show how little
I care.
I know I'll
See that *****
In my nightmares.

I'm terrified
niamh Jul 2015
Words are like weapons
Can maim and tear
So in the heat of the moment
You must beware.

We are not rubber *****,
We do not bounce back.
We bear the scars
Of your scathing attack.

We come back changed
Though the change may be slight,
A little bit tougher
With a little more bite.

Stow your tempered words
Within their sheath
Or taste the sharp side
Of our teeth.
niamh Jun 2015
We wrote our lives
unto hopefilled parchment
and sprayed upon it
the perfume of our souls.
They used it to wipe
away their bitter tears
and held a match to it.
But that just means
we float forever
on a higher wind
niamh Jul 2015
Shining a light
Upon the darkest nights.
Heralding the dawn
Of fresh dreams
And blessing the kiss
Of new lovers.
Another moon poem :)
niamh Jun 2015
He looked upon love
And was blinded.
Sight is over-rated
niamh May 2015
Words and thoughts
ignite in my brain
and flow to my fingers
like an inferno.

Self-loathing
and uncertainty
douse the flames
and leave a blank page.

Emotions rage
against the injustice
and demand
to be set free.

But they're locked
up
tight
and I can't find the key.
Too many half-thoughts battling to be heard!!
niamh Jun 2015
The frustration
Of a
Stilled pen
Can drive
Writers insane
niamh Jun 2015
Arterial blood
Spills upon pages.
The price for
Our art
niamh Nov 2014
Thoughts and emotions
Are running high.
So won't someone please
Tell me why
I can't write down
In any way, the things
I really want to say??
Is this what they call
Writer's block?
What a total
Pile of ****!!
Frustration has me
Pulling my hair!
No inspiration
From anywhere!!!!
Had a glass too many
So can't even think!
**** it!
I'll just have another drink
Sorry about the cursing! Total writer's block - really ******* me off!!!!
niamh Apr 2016
WIthin the shadows
Find what's true
Someone to hold
While they hold you.

Within the noise
Peace can be found
Crushed velvet rug
On stony ground.

When cold is all
That's in your soul
Strike the match
And stack your coal.

With eyes closed tight
You cannot see
You live in chains
And think you're free.

When on your own
Trust who you are
Never all alone
Under watchful stars.
For some reason the stars always mange to find a way into my poems :) must be my muse
niamh Jul 2015
I will lay me down
And bow my back
To the point of breaking
So I can be your bridge
To better things
niamh Jun 2015
In a life full of ordinary shades
You brought an extraordinary burst of light
simultaneously blinding me
while giving me sight.

In a world full of sharp edges
You brought sumptuous cushions
to protect me
when I fall.

In a heart unwittingly empty
You brought the knowledge
of what it is
to love.
niamh Dec 2015
When the night is still,
She comes,
Licks the nib
And spits her words
Upon my pages.
I wake to read thoughts
I didn't know I had
But the writing
Reads like a mirror.
With shaking hands
I tear the treacherous paper.
Words born of wine
And what is best left buried.
The mirror me waits.
***** in hand.
Nothing stays buried forever.
niamh Jun 2015
The heat in your eyes
Threatens to burn me.
My beautiful
Heavenly
Hell
niamh Jul 2015
It shakes me to the core
This breathtaking desire
Passion never felt before

I never thought to soar
On this feeling you inspire
It shakes me to the core

I crave it all the more
As it sets my soul on fire
Passion never felt before

Electricity outpours
Fingers touching this live wire
It shakes me to the core

A ****** rapport
That cannot be acquired
Passion never felt before

And as we explore
I set my heart upon the pyre
It shakes me to the core
Passion never felt before
niamh Jun 2015
I burnt the pages of my history.
Flames of fantastic orange
And electric blue
Feasted ravenously
On past mistakes and regrets.
I gathered the ashes
And polished
My shining future
Apparently wood ash can be used to clean silver! :)
niamh May 2015
While they wait for you to fail,
Try your best.
If that's not good enough,
Be safe in the knowledge
That they Speak in
hushed tones
Of your failure.
And feel pity for them,
That someone else's sadness
Is their happiness
niamh Aug 2015
She is a mass of contradictions,
smooth curves and sharp tongue,
soft skin and hard thoughts,
happy mouth and sad eyes.
An alluring curiousity,
she travels with the freak show;
under constant scrutiny.
Beauty struggles under
harsh lighting,
grotesque truth
brought to the fore.
Free within a cage
To which you hold the key.
Redundant wings now used
To cover her face.
niamh Jul 2015
Within her twin pools of fire and smoke,
Within her crimson coloured passion,
He finds calm.
niamh Jun 2015
Her face painted
To disguiuse true feelings
Cannot cover
The glassy-eyed
Thousand yard stare
Of someone looking
Into themselves.
She longs for someone
To ask her what's wrong
But she'll snap
When they do,
Make herself
Feel worse
And the viscious
Circle continues
niamh Jun 2015
Retract your claws
Little ***** cat
Before I file
Them down
Looks like pussycat blocked me :)
niamh Jun 2015
She purrs just like a cat on heat
As she strolls seductively down the street
Lifting her tail high in the air
And smiling at the men who stare.
With this body so lithe and sublime
She fools them each and every time
For if they thought to stop and pause
They'd look closer and see her claws
Kind of a follow-up from 'The Temptress' ;)
niamh May 2015
The winds of change
Are blowing.
My candle is flickering.
I don't know if it will survive
niamh Sep 2015
Breathe it in.
The smell of change
Is in the air.
Seasons and lives,
Deaths and births.
A kaleidoscope of colours rich
Upon the ground.
Branches stripped
Of youth.
Old withered arms
Seeking answers from the heavens.
Smoke pouring from chimneys
Where families gather
While the child
From a broken home
Watches from a distance,
Wrapped in scarves
And sadness.
The changing seasons
Making a mockery
Of that which
Stays the same.
niamh Jun 2015
She slithers into
A silk dress of midnight blue
Adorned with diamonds
niamh Jun 2015
They experience an exhilirating flight
Adrenaline of pure joy mixed with fright
Hair flying back in the summers breeze
They're as one with the birds in the trees
And as their feet reach out to touch the sky
I mourn my inner child
Watching my kids on the swings & miss how free I felt doing it when I was a kid
niamh Jun 2015
I smile
Under a blanket of darkness.

No-one can see it,
But it doesn't make it any less
Of a smile
Love getting into bed when the sheets have just been cleaned! :)
