Triste
The mind is a graveyard
Of memories
Without headstones
Date and time
Name and place
You have put them all to rest
But what do you do on days
When they suddenly turn up just right across the street?
In his favorite shirt
Or wearing her beautiful smile?
Will you run away?
Or hope for them to stay?
A crystal pitcher; aptly made
My trembling hand upon it laid
Then to my lips, I did lift
With loving sips upon more sips
To feel the wet and languid kiss
Of innocence amiss.

You’re not a poet because you know those ‘fancy’ words
You’re a poet because every word you write comes straight from your heart

You’re not a poet because people admire your work
You’re a poet because you write for your own contentment and not for people's consent

You’re not a poet because you feel alone
You’re a poet because pen and paper are your biggest companions

You’re not a poet because you understand emotions better
You’re a poet because you let them flow freely

You are not a poet because you’ve failed in love
You’re a poet because you’ve been in love deeper than anyone else

You’re not a poet because you are strong
You’re a poet because you don’t hide your weaknesses

You’re not a poet because you can heal hearts
You’re a poet because you know what it means to be broken
Dedicated to all the poets here. I feel happy to be a part of the community.

The Non-Poet
life is like
when you're
a little kid
and you
discover that
there is more
than twenty-four
crayons in the box
that there is
the possibility
of forty-eight colors
of sixty-four
of one-hundred and twenty
that there are
so many shades
of love and anger and peace and despair
and absolute bliss
and the ability
to express them all
are now
in the palm
of your hand

life is
colorful
beautiful
thought-provoking
lovely
soulful
heartbreaking
inspiring
and absolutely wonderful

every day is
a new sunrise
a new chance
to transform into
the butterfly you
want to be

go out there
and change the world, kid

You don’t text or call,
Not when I needed you to.
I sit in the bath.
It’s hot, that’s the first thing on my mind.
As the sweat starts to form,
I think of all I’ve done wrong
As my cheeks turn pink from the heat,
I ask myself why I deserve this.
I want to get out,
But I can’t seem to stand.
I want to fall asleep,
But I can feel my heart beat.
It’s beating so fast,
Like my chest will explode.
I wish you would text
Or call, I don’t know.

I don't know her
Only her name
A beautiful name
Like a precious stone

The nerve one must have
Even to speak it

Her beauty I must say
Truly unlike any other
If only I had the nerve
She may be flawed
But to me
flawlessly

She is certainly one of a kind
Free spirited
Curiously quiet
Only to spectate in wonder

From a distance

I wish I had the nerve
Not to capture or subdue
But to know her
Be more in her presence

Her smile
Even if not for me
Makes me smile too

To hear her laughter
Is like a treasure sought
Over and over

I wish I had the nerve

Writing wages war on the monsters inside me.
I pierce them with my pen and lay them down to die.
