Blackout

Winter introduced itself like a
Sudden death in the family.
A -28 degrees celsius day has fingers
Thin enough to reach through glass,
Leaving its ice on the inside of
Windows.

I find candles and carry firewood,
Preparing for a cold one.
Out here, blackouts can last for a day.
My iPad and portable modem have
Battery enough for one
Poem.

Such are my priorities.
I empty my fridge into the snow,
Thanking the gods
For my beer.
Don't try to reach me. I'm remembering
Life from centuries ago.

“Everybody dies,
                but not everybody lives.”

But how do you tell if,
                you’re living or not?

Everyone knows how,
               being happy feels.

But how do you know,
               If that feeling’s real?

In a moment of perfection how will you react upon realizing that,
               euphoric sensation of nirvana....

Was nothing more than,
               bliss by convience?

The mind will probably go numb,
              most likely go cold inside and wonder;

Death,
could this be how death feels?

What a terrifying feeling to have been so confident,
              the storm was over.

So confident the sun was peaking through the clouds,
swore to have even felt it’s warmth.

Oh the eye;
my hope died in the eye of the storm.

I died in the eye of the storm,
               but was I even alive?

Resurrection I found in her eyes,
what a time to be alive.

What A euphoria for had I not first died,
today I would not be so alive.

"Everybody dies but,
               not everybody lives."

Not everybody lives because,
                not everybody dies twice.

"Things haven't been the same."
Years of dead flowers,
Of looking away,
Of tear stained pillows
Yearning living may
Just be the death of me
I could see if she let me
You could be if you let you
Let me down easy
Let me down slowly
I'd watch you go
Just to imagine you
Coming

20 degrees outside
Headphones and ***
Beneath a streetlight
On a park bench.

Imagining your face
Taking shape in the frozen lake
Watching as I
Try freezing you inside of me.

Nervous,
Scared,
Frightened,
And alone.
Physical,
Emotional,
Mental,
And alone.
Exhausted,
Dying,
Destroyed,
And alone.
Frustrated,
Angry,
Tormented,
And alone.
Drowning,
Swinging,
Bleeding,
And alone.
Alone,
Alone,
Alone,
And still breathing.
Little birds outside
Hopping on snow, after crumbs
A cat lurks, watching
