It seems like a real dream
often better than reality
We wake up to a dreary world
Let's dream on

Nightmares not good
but life can be hell on earth
If you want to serve our country and risk your own life
What or why does it matter how you “identify?”
To be forced to be the gender you were born
Is outrageous, leaving capable humans becoming torn
Serving our country, protecting human lives
Is honorable to us, why are taking away the prize
Just because someone is “different” by living in their own skin
Matching their insides to the outside
Yet your shaming them with sin
It’s utterly disgusting that this is what we’ve become
I stand for everyone hiding who they really are or want to become
I hope others will reach out and take a stand with me
Fight for rights for everyone...

When I am around you
The butterflies come swarming
You make me breathless

I bought a mannequin for $65
it was used, just like you.
it has a stain on its chest
where our matching birthmarks lie
two skin toned islands, both yours.
I carried it home on a rainy evening,
like that wine buzzed night we shared,
baked it your favorite cake,
chocolate, dulce de leche, strawberry.
it was vegan, just for you.
I dressed it up in the clothes you left:
yoga pants, leopard print bralette, black scarf.
your parting gifts.
I'm sure it's cold,
I'll put the space heater on high,
like I always did for you.
it doesn't talk much, it just sits
eyes vacant, without breath,
empty.
like you were at the end.
a fine replacement.
it was used,
just like you.
I steal the breath from your lips;
I kiss your chest and listen to the
heartbeat. I told you not to run,
You cannot escape, my little one.
I am the chasm inside your soul;
I am the only love you’ll ever know.
