you were summer to my heart
and tasted like the first day of spring.

the air was saturated with prayers and dreams
and for once I truly believed Heaven still exists.

i don’t think my mother
ever brushed my hair.
and if she did,
i can’t remember it.
i could lie and say
that i wonder why,
but i know why.
it was because
she was busy with
my sister’s brand-new curls,
busy tending to her own
dark roots and dry ends.

when i am a mother,
i will balance my sons
and daughters on my lap
and one by one
comb through
their soft mops
with patient hands.

they will never wonder
why i left them
to sort out
the knots
on their own.

they will know
i am there
to help untangle
the predestined messes
caused by the wind,
and caused by me.
Two broken souls coming
Together to fix
All the broken pieces
Left behind from tormented
Pasts of abuse and hurt
And to think there was
Love around in a relationship
Built on broken pieces
Voids, abuse, drugs and
Two people trying to fit
Into a world that cares more
About looking cute in
Pictures together than
Building a relationship that
Will last for centuries and the
Funny thing is even though
We never met I still
Love and care for you

I feel different than before

not so angry
restless
or confused

it’s only a spec
on this great canvas

a locomotive

puffing smoke

pulling a string of boxcars
through never-ending rows of corn

I’m moving forward now
not so fast mind you

just slow

steady progress

headed  out west
someplace

where it’s warm

I am Heaven
I am Peace
Life Love
Fear
Hurt
Pain
Sadness

I am Sadistically Committed to Being Peacefully Happy
I’m a better man for being with you
Doing my best today
Sorry about my failings
I just want to say
I need you
To love me
Forgive me
Lift me up
Help me pray
That I make this life worthwhile
