Armour

I am shrouded
In forced laughter.
Chainmail with
Weakened links
Of bitter tears.
A suit of armour
Grudgingly,
Necessarily,
Worn on a straight back.
The weight of
Expectations born
Of a weary soul
Will not bow me.
The true steel
Lies in my heart.
Say my name
Say it gently
Use your words
To caress me
Speak your thoughts
Speak them out loud
Confess your love
Amidst the crowd
Scream your wishes
Scream your dreams
Make your reality
Better than it seems
Whisper your pain
Whisper your fears
Release the tension
Wipe away your tears
Open your mind
Open up wide
Let my love in
Let me inside

She crawls through miles of dirt.
Breaking ground with bloodied fingers
And viscious intent.

My weakness is a light in the fog.
She finds me unerringly.
Nowhere to run.

My doubt fuels her
Voracious appetite.
Her teeth flash at my throat.

Vindictive *****.
Addiction.
I can never bury her deep enough.

When your riches
Are measured in shades of green,
the rainbow is never as bright.

When you spend your time
Looking down on others,
You miss the beauty of the stars.

When you count your coffers
Not your blessings
Infinity is but a dream.

Early in the evening
She teases.
Hiding in the shadows,
Winking playfully.
As she slowly
Sheds
Her inhibitions
And stands before me
In all her wondrous glory.
Brazen and proud.
Doubts
Tossed  aside on the wind.
Clever little luna.
You don't have to
Play games
With me.
I'm at your mercy.

Words are harmless, so they say,
That's where the problem starts;
Sticks and stones
May break our bones
But words will break our hearts.

Words are harmless, so they say,
And point you to their charts;
It's harmless fun,
No damage done.
But... Who will mend our hearts?

The x-rays show no damage
Where words have scathed across,
But it still feels hard to manage,
And leaves you at a loss.

Words are harmless, don't complain,
That's where the problem starts.
It's quite absurd-
A single word-
Enough to break our hearts!

But words are harmless, they maintain;
The subject of their parts,
No less or more,
So let them pour
From all our broken hearts
“Sticks and stones may break our bones, but words will break our hearts” is a quote I have stolen directly from Robert Fulghum.
In my defence, he'd already stolen half of that quote himself.

•like clockwork,
  her day would begin
•pressures of life like no
one could imagine•toting the
crushing weight upon her tiny shou-
lders•responsibilities and expectations that
would overwhelm before she falters•she'd ***-
ble as she groans her duress•her skin would crack
to release pent up stress•then there would come a day
•her exhausted veins would rupture and then give way
•she has the most terrible temper•but we would still flock
to her•
why?*........when time and again she offers us strife•

simply because she provides,
she gives us life•

Darling,
 Nov 2015 Jon Gilbert

You can do anything darling, if you accept yourself.
Open your heart to possibilities
And accept yourself.
You can do anything darling, if you can accept yourself.

You can do anything darling, if you accept yourself.
Open your eyes to the sky
And accept yourself.
You can do anything darling, if you can accept yourself.

You can do anything darling, if you accept yourself.
So take a deep breath and wipe your tears away.
And smile because you know everything will be okay,
And accept yourself.

You can do anything darling, if you can accept yourself.
This is what's come of me trying to motivate myself... I was sitting in the dark narrating a story, a story that may have been about myself (but I'm not sure), in the company of a candle. I don't know how this word pattern came up... it just did.
