I'm Just Another Person
Joey Reams Jan 2015
I'm a raindrop on glass
Just one in a million
I rush to the flood,
passing the other raindrops,
stopping for nothing
Once I hit the ground,
I am no longer a raindrop

I become a puddle
Waiting with the others
We watch mother nature,
joining other puddles,
growing stronger
Once we're big enough,
We are no longer a puddle

We become a stream
Going with the flow
We slide down the street,
rushing next to each other,
searching for the end
Then we find it.

We fall down the drain
and separate from each other
I'm lost and alone
in a dark place
I don't know where I am
or where I'm going
but *I'm still moving

The hardest part of seeing old friends
is convincing them that you have
changed.
That you are no longer the person
that they used to know.
For better or worse,
that person is
dead.
If they can't understand that,
then they are just reading the same page
from the same book
looking for different
words.

Jaywalking
Joey Reams Jan 2015
We met at the same spot
seconds apart.
We looked both ways
and took the first step.
We saw the headlights
but went on anyway.
As the cars got closer
we got faster.
Soon we were sprinting
trying to stay alive.
We got to the other side
and looked at each other.
We exhaled and smiled
seconds apart.
Because we knew
for those few seconds
we were strangers
running for our lives
together.

We went on with our day
never to see each other again.
