I pray more for you
Than I do for myself.

~

If I call you beautiful…

Do flowers bloom within your worried eyes
surrounding you with color, with thoughts
Looking past the mirror to that place you have been,
that you long to be again

Do you bite your lip,
looking within, seeking past the darkness,
subconsciously smoothing the ruffles of you dress,
shuffling your feet a bit

Do memories flood your mind
of days before lipstick and eye shadow,
when cute was as common as wrinkled nose smiles,
playing inside or out were your choices

Do you roll your eyes and sigh,
describing a portrait that only you can see,
a mirage of impressions you have collected,
stored away in that file you reach for regularly

Do you brand me blind or crazy at least,
point to that one tiny blemish you know,
turn and walk away kicking dust as you go,
shutting the door in disbelief

Or do you see your reflection in my eyes
the woman that you are to me,
hear the affection in my voice, the truth
and wrinkle your nose once more and say, “I love you”

None of you have guessed that
No one has ever told me that
I will grow up to be an alcoholic.
I have told myself that because
I just want some kind of something
That is mine and no one
Will be able to steal it from me.
And addictions seem like a good way
To go about that.

I imagine
Us close
And in
Between us
Bursts
Our love
A smoke
Of red
Orange and blue
Forming a
Beautiful
Blossoming flower.

Swords!
I believe I own one. It's small in size
but great in strength. And harm? That may be
the only thing it has granted me. As it grazes
against the backs of my teeth and cuts
at the necks of old lovers, I am not sure
whether I am grateful for this tool.
Wielding all this power, is it a blessing or a curse?
But what am I saying? What do I know?
All I've got is a tongue.
I'm a day late for NaPoWriMo...oh well, #3

To all our poets far and near
Support the newer poets here
Your support will help them write their stuff
But in your criticism dont be to gruff
Positive criticism is gladly read
By them who really feel the need
To improve the way they write
And thus contribute more to this great site

You should need

Take one breath at a time
Adorn each piece with a chime
Let hearts beat in sync
As feathers in air must sink!

Take one step at a time
Bless a beggar with a dime
For so do hearts entwine
Like broken glasses of wine!

Take one day at a time
Grace each line with a rhyme
For so do poems ferment
When pens and papers cement!*

Cherish every moment of life,
As it could be your last!

You tried to hide all this while
Blew out your own light.
You fought to hide
What you really are,
Ravished being hidden behind.
Never spoke a word
Or even lift a hand.
Still a placid face
Through all emotional dues.
What was it that you lost?
That's made you so cold.
I don't even know
If you're here anymore.
You wage a lonely war,
Am I crazy to want a part of it?
Your world is slowly sinking,
Can I be the one to lift you up to the sky?

Jesus was a Carpenter
Enthroned without a coup d'état
Never drove a Cadillac
He lived, as it were, in lack!

With so little, He was contented
Though He was frequently tempted
All the worldliness of the world
He always overcame with the Word!

King of kings and Lord of lords
He redeemed us from the laws
By His pure and cleansing blood
He has saved us from the flood!

His steps in life should be our course
Each bearing his and her own cross
Our hands and voices we must raise
To worship Him and give Him praise!

Of all kinds of blades;
Razors, swords, daggers and knives
*Sharp tongues cut deepest!
There's power in the tongue
Use it wisely
Bless, don't curse!
