Nothing beats the power, the beauty, and the purity of those two little innocent eyes that stare at you: that which cries but are not sad; that which smiles and puts your corrupted soul to shame. Its mere glimpse has you surrendered; the masks shattered. There's nothing as powerful a mirror as them. There's nothing as divine as them. Try as much as you may, you shall never defeat them, at least not for that brief period of time. It holds you captive, and you would always want to remain so, such is its power of enchantment.
I had written this a few years back on receiving the prompt. The word was 'Mask'.

You came into my life
aged 4

Such a sweet wee thing
and to this heart
of mine
much pleasure
you did bring

I had laughter
and love
with my little boy
But girls
bring a different joy

You really were
a lovely girl
You put my life
into a whirl

We did crafts
dress ups
had days
filled with fun
Your hair
shone golden
when out in the sun

Now you're an adult
Into a lovely young lady
you've grown
with a husband
and a baby girl
A family of your own

So now I have a grandaughter
to give me years
of pleasure
and I'm sure just like her mum
she'll give me memories I'll forever treasure
This was written with much love
for my beautiful stepdaughter
who has been part of my life for almost
20years

Nimble yet gullible

Blessings and catalysts

The little hand that pressed its love
It's trust
It's belief
Into the safest of all
Is slipping away to adulthood
For our son
What a wonderful journey our lives can be

How fast the day ends
Evening comes and morning blend
I always thought of you as a child
Forgetting that I have become old
I enjoyed playing with you in noon
As you are playing with your son
How fast the day ends

I wanted to give you much thought
Different ideas your teacher brought
Cup of honey, flowers, fruits, sought
How fast the day ends

Used to Kiss your face to make you smile
Touch your soft cheeks to make you smile
Frisk, frolic, flutter front to make you smile
Giggle, gimmick, gallant acts make you smile
How fast the ends
Evening comes and morning blend

She is more
than what meets the eye,

She is a pending rainbow
that's hiding behind the clouds
in the sky.

She is a warm pocket
in a cold, deep ocean,

She is a virtual art form,
She is poetry in motion.

She is thunder and lightning
in a perfect blue horizon,

She is a delicate wildflower
growing in a plush green field,
one that is mesmerising.

She is an unexpected smile
on a lonely day,

She is instant relief
when things aren't going
your way.

She is a suprising hint of sweetness
when you are expecting
something sour,

She is a timeless friend,
She is an immortal flower.

She is more
than what meets the eye,

She is a breath of fresh mountain air, causing one to exhale a relieving sigh.

She is full of substance,
empathy, wisdom and kindness,

She contains infinite layers
of universes beneath her skin,
all of which are unrecognisable
to the naked eyes that suffer from "metaphorical" blindness.

would you like to take a walk
through my gardens now with me?
with the loveliest of flower
and the tiniest of pea?

yes?
good,
well come along my darling
now come along it's free,
an let's go to the gardens
to see what we can see

well,
I planted here some garlic
from the garlic bulbs I had
an the bok choy
well it bolted
and I lost it
that's too bad
but still
it had some flowers
though,
so really not so sad,

sigh,
smile now, ; )

see the tomatoes look so happy
lots to can, to cook an share
the cucumbers are plenty
see those guys are everywhere,

those here are purple eggplant
with soft delicate new flowers,
an the weather has been perfect
just so hot with scattered showers

the chocolate mint like poetry
WiLd and prolific
dead head all the marigolds
an boy they grow terrific,

in lovely burning oranges
and yellows
you can eat,
marigolds - nasturtiums
are really such a treat
and eating from my garden
well really can't be beat,

the kale is getting big,
and my peppers hot an mild
the pumpkins taking over
like an ivy envy wild

cosmos and green beans
were started from a seed,
radishes are too,
look-
I snuck 'em in between,

basil and cilantro
rosemary and sage,
I could go on and on
and write another page

but really you should visit
and come to see it now
but thanks for reading this
though vicarious somehow

I'm still happy for to share
my life
and love today
I hope you know I care
an are soon
here on your way
even in grey skies
for the growing I will pray,

and I will be here waiting
tending gardens
come what may.

Like the wind in early spring,
she caressed my soul with her tears.
Kissed away my fears.
Welcomed me into a unknown world
With her heart tucked under my covers.
I opened my eyes and fell in love at first sight.
She was like the wind in early spring and
I was the flower sprouting beneath her feet.
She wore a scent of happiness that made me
Smile at first glance.
I knew this woman would be the light
In my darkness forever
I couldn't place her in my heart
Because hearts change
I couldn't live without her
So she became my breath
'Cause she's the warmest
Thing I'll ever find"

Oh my little sweetie, fret no more
Close your eyes and go to sleep.
Here, your mom is by your side
Singing lullabies, sweet and cherished

All sounds are stilled for you to sleep in quiet
All lights are out that no beam hurt your eyes
All storms, calmed that to a blissful rest you glide
No horrifying dreams to rob you of your snooze.

Sleep, sleep, rocking in the sea of joy
Sleep, sleep close to your mother’s throbbing heart
Sleep, sleep, listening to this gentle lay I tune
Sleep, sleep to wake to the miracle of life

Fear not, around you much love abounds
And legions of angels to guard your sleep
Thy eyes shall hither new beauties behold
And many a marvel for you to rejoice

It’s for you the stars twinkle and gleam
It’s for you the breeze hums sweet and blest
It’s for you the buds open at the fall of gloom
It’s for you the glow worms scatter rays of gold.

It’s for you, the seasons come and go
It’s for you, the fruits ripen and fall
It’s for you, the raindrops plop n’ break
It’s for you, God paints the sky in myriad hues.

Now hush my baby, sleep my child
Lying below this smiling silver moon
Good night darling, drift away
To the land of dreams where fairies live

Conceived within before you were born
Called you names and caressed you soft
Cuddled you tight and kept you safe
In the secret chamber of my maiden heart

I pledge your soul to God our Lord
May He watch you through the gloom!
I consign my babe to His sacred trust
And bid you away to dream’s Never, Never land

Sleep, sleep, rocking in the sea of joy
Sleep, sleep close to your mother’s throbbing heart
Sleep, sleep, listening to this gentle lay I tune
Sleep, sleep, to wake to the miracle of life
The mother instinct sometimes grows so intense in me. Now sitting in an empty nest with the fledglings flown away, I recall those days when I used to sing lullabies and put my two little sons to sleep…… !
