Star crossed lovers fade
as yesterday’s flowers
fall through shadows
outside fortress walls

spiking punch with the air
caught between their lines

of a boundless sea, waves
lick at feet, splashing
moonlight into dampened eyes

on another shore, where the sun
warms sunken toes, spilling

the way the wind blows
changed everything

as the winter air

cracks of my doorframe

until storms arrived
riding on cold fronts

slight movements of air

over piles of leaves
painted by solace
in deepening dusk

this ambient jar
of curses spilling
stones of darkness  
transformed
in joy's pure flame
set high upon a rock
