I've worked so hard
To be where I am
To be somewhat okay
By myself
And to be strong
In some regards
And here you are
Are you different?
I need to know
Before I am more
Invested
I've woven so much
Of my heart into you
Over the years
Over so many circumstances
But I need you
To show me you actually care
To want to know
What I'm up to
What I think and feel
To feel like you actually care
About who I truly am
I'm not a back up
A second plan
An alternate route
A drifting thought
Because I can't be that girl
Not for you
Not again
I know with all certainty
I can't stand to be hurt
Not by you
Not again

Broken
Memories, cruel and vivid.
Every detail of a life once lived.
Of the happily ever after that once existed.
When a ring and my heart were her gifts.
I can remember every moment.
Of every single day.
The gift of a beautiful memory.
Yet a price there is to be paid.
Those moments will never leave me.
Forever imprisoned in my brain.
The most beautiful moments live on.
In my mind over and over replayed.
But I've found beauty hurts the worst.
Because in the beautiful I still feel her.
Reminded of the home I once had to go to.
Our love once alive, now lay burned.
They scorch with blistering beauty
Not with the madness of towering flames
But with the glimmer of a candle's glow
Its light melting the coldests of hearts
With a single glare

Your eyes
Your irises
They are rings of fire
But they only burn for a single second

Before we kiss
Before our souls touch
A single moment immortalized in a poem.

Gin
She's looking in the mirror,
Getting ready to hit the club,
Smokey eyes on point,
She's just trying to let go
Of what she keeps inside.

Prettier than her surroundings,
But still lists her flaws upon her soul,
If only she knew,
That the sun battles the moon,
To see her first.

So bright, so great,
Her smile lights up the sky.

Everyday her spirit fights,
A battle she knows well,
Fearing to grasp,
The reaching hand.

A soul so pure,
You can see it clear,
While she's looking in the mirror.
