In all my poem reading,
I haven't been able to relate to a love poem.

Until tonight,
I always thought the writers were exaggerating.

Yet, this feeling of connection is remarkable.
I suppose I would need a strange poem to describe it,
too.
I titled it 'Not a Love Poem" just in case I can't relate to it tomorrow

I don't want to be unfolded in pieces like the tabs
In pop-up picture books.

I want to be a flat slate.
Open canvas
with every stroke and mistake
And run off edges to be so visible to everyone
all the time.

There will never be a time
That you will question
If you know me
For
I am bare.
In this vast library and museum of ppl,
I'm surrounded by pop up books.

We made love
through poetry
our lips touched
and our bodies moved fluently
as your words poured over me;
Beautifully.

I was drunk once.
Drunk on love,
drunk on lust.

I was drunk,
warm and full.

You were sober,
cold and empty.

I write this poem
Because I have a question
A question I have been wanting to ask you
From the day that I met you

We talked and talked
Shared songs
Spoke about jobs
Read poems
Talked about school

We spoke with each other
Through messages
So I never got to know your voice
Your way of talking

You might see where I am going
So I'll ask it directly
Will you meet me
Over a cup of coffee?

Beloved,
In what other lives or lands
Have I known your lips
Your Hands
Your Laughter brave
Irreverent.
Those sweet excesses that
I do adore.
What surety is there
That we will meet again,
On other worlds some
Future time undated.
I defy my body's haste.
Without the promise
Of one more sweet encounter
I will not deign to die.
