I'm not quite dead, yet.
"That's what life is all about:
not dying yet!"
All my best work
seems to be done
when there's a task
that oughtta be done.
That's why I carry a notebook.
I started playing guitar when I was 14.
I didn't take it very seriously until I was almost 17.
That's when I made time for at least an hour of guitar a day.
Now, six years later, I literally play about eight hours a day when I can.

My exposure to playing music before guitar was the Piano, but I rebelled when it became forced. That's just how I roll. I'm grateful for that musical icebreaker, though. I want to get back into playing keys. For now, I'm focusing on making the guitar into even more of a playground.

I use a 150-watt Ibanez Tone-Blaster head on a 4x12 cab. It's on the clean channel with the levels at 5 and the Overdrive on, with a gain of about 4. The hue is cranked, though. Gotta love that brightness.

I have a Boss ME-70 multi-effect pedal.
I must say, those types of things are great for sampling different sounds, or having watered-down versions of lots effects available at any time. But, if you find one tone you really like, you're best off buying or building the individual pedals to provide you with a higher quality version of your preferred tone.

Anyway, I have the hall reverb at about 5, and some 'classic' overdrive set to 5 for level, tone, and gain. That's all I need. I sparingly use light chorus or uni-v, or maybe a wah for certain parts. I believe simplicity is best in terms of effects.
Although, tasteful delay makes an alright solo into a ****-dampening solo.

I have many axes:
1 nylon 6-string
1 acoustic 6-string
2 Washburn electric-acoustics; a 6 string and a 12 string
2 B.C. Riches (Beast, Stealth)
an LTD KH-602 Superstrat
an Ibanez 'Artcore' series semi-hollow electric Jazz guitar
then, I also have a Roland Ax-Synth keytar.

In my opinion, guitars sound better tuned down.
So, naturally, I tried out drop-D, which was cool.
Then, I wanted all the strings to be lower, so I tried Eb-Standard.
I liked that. There was more body to the sound.

Of course, I tried playing in a drop-style tuning from there and discovered Drop-C#. This tuning stole my heart for a while. That is..
..until the voluptuous redhead D-Standard came along,
arms linked with her **** black-haired sister: Drop-C.

Tuned a step down, bends and vibrato are much more wild beasts.
However, this lower tension will trash your harmonics and stuff,
so I play 10-52 strings: 10, 13, 17, 30, 42, 52. Typically called 'LTHB,' or Light-Top Heavy-Bottom. This helps to keep the tension more similar to as if it were strung with normal strings in standard tuning. That translates into more overtones, which, in turn, means better tone.
More overtones means more pinch harmonics, too. Aww, yeah!

I need to get my hands on a decent electric baritone.
Maybe I'll just make one.

Oh, and another thing:
I just got some brass nuts. ;)
Just thought I'd share, should anyone be interested.
I'd like to note how much more lyrical this came out than I anticipated.

Everything is a joke;
you get it or you don't.

If you don't:

If you do:

You see, in Life,

Inexorably,
we all are victims

it always gets

Perturbations Plug
Thank you to all of you who have joined my group "Perturbations."
I sent out a rather large number of invites to a rather small population of the writers I respect rather much with whom I've had the pleasure of interacting; a few of them have taken the bait, and for that I thank thee.

"Perturbations" is a collection of my own works which I wish to become a book, most likely by the same title.

I welcome all constructive feedback. If a piece is weak or needs a tweak, please speak your mind freely and with respect. :)

If any of you would have an interest in following/joining the group who haven't done so, you are so much more than welcome to do so. I would consider it a compliment.

Personal Disclaimer:
This isn't intended to be an ego thing for me, it is meant to show people who enjoy my work/style the works I feel best about. I'd also be verily interested to see similar collections of other people's own favorite pieces.
We are here

Edification
I wish
schooling nurtured natural creativity
and personal skill
rather than
mere curriculum;

I understand
a sense of direction,
but I understand that everyone's path is unique
and that perhaps North to one
is South to another,
or vice-versa;
not to instill a hierarchy of preference,
but that it may lead to finding oneself very much lost
by following what genuinely worked for another.
(That is, assuming a lack of manipulation,
which seems to assume a nonhuman subject.)

Nurture thy own skill;
therein is thy salvation.
I know there was One,
but, then:
Two.

I was told
Three,
but, I'd venture to guess Four.
Or, maybe, Five.

But, I don't know, man.
I can't quite tell.
How many would you say?
What's it mean to you?

The fact that we (may) disagree
doesn't at all mean
that we cannot agree;
in fact, as I see it,
all it means
is that we are both
mutually unique-

Fancy that.
We are individuals.

Maybe it is
that the greatest good can come
from the mean of our viewpoints,
and, hence,
the philosophy
of democracy.

If only
such a philosophy
was popular
among thy
who decide
our policy;
that is to say,
the Media:

it isn't democracy;
as long as you have faith in them,
it's whatever the **** they tell you;
whether you realize it
or not.
(Preferably not.)

Anyway,
the discrepancy between our viewpoints is not a sign of mutual distancing, but rather a sign of alternative philosophies.

According to Statistics,
larger "n" values (sample sizes)
lend themselves to a greater degree of accuracy.
Such known,
why do so many adhere to a perspective
that deliberately depends on limited n values?

I suppose
that an answer to that is
'the Shadow.'
Juangians, raise your hands! Yeah!

As an artifact of the Id and Ego,
(Freudians, raise your hands!),
it is ever-evolving;
yet, as an artifact of the Mind,
it is ever-apparent:

Command it,
or is shall command thee.
So, when someone disagrees,
do not meet them with resent,
but seek to meet them with respect.

Through compassion and respect
shall we re-inherit this Earth
from they, who seek control
via daemons of aforementioned
'public opinion.'

But, then again,
that's just my opinion.

Excerpt 1
"Hail unto thee, unlikely Champion!
If I may inquire; to which school do you belong?
Your technique is most impressive and dynamic;
I've never seen anything quite like it in all my years."

"Hail unto thee, Philosopher-King.
Indeed you may inquire!
I belong to no school:
I belong to each and every
however much any
would chose to have me,
and I, it."

"Wise beyond your years, I see.
I've got something to show you.
A book from a distant land. I think you'll dig it."

We turned and walked down the torch-lit vaulted hallway of the King's palace toward the Archives. The King hummed some resemblance of a melody as we descended a rather long spiral staircase.

A distant sound of glass shattering broke the monotony of the decent. We looked at each other and I could see his dark face grow pale.

"The marauders.. I knew this would happen sooner or later. Come, Champion. We must ensure the Queen's safety! Make haste!"

Adapt
Assuming 'survival of the most adaptive,'
why does Change tend to frighten people?
It should be seen as an opportunity;
a challenge to which One can rise
and beyond which One can grow.
"My favorite thing about her would have to be her personality:

Mean, snide, lazy, insincere,
manipulative, controlling, cowardly,
condescending, territorial, insecure,
entitled, selfish, superficial, capricious,
disrespectful, brash, immature,
foolish, arrogant, pretentious,
rude, holier-than-thou, insipid,
and even a little bit childish.

What's not to grovel and worship?
Truly, I cannot think of even one shortcoming."
Inspired by a former roomate. I'll leave it at that.

Seas of Death
What is it
within the realm of
my Self
that has the nerve
to question the divinity
of this current, fleeting moment?

Is it not the vessel of Life, itself,
that is used to navigate
these, the occluded
Seas of Death?

Could it not be
that a Mind and Body
are the very salvation
over which we so toil?

Would it not be an act of pure mercy
to have the capacity to look around
and to think, and create
while, all the time,
being pulled under
by the inevitable tide of change
we, in English, chose to call
"Death?"

That, in itself,
should inspire me to carry on
and to turn an eye
up from the ground, back from the past;
to within my self; this current moment;
and on, upward:
to the skies and, likewise,
the future.

What is it about my Mind
that so enjoys, or perhaps requires
some selfish sense of 'overlooking'
for the sake of ephemeral comfort?

Alas,
I know what word I would use,
but I dare yet not to use it;
for, t'is that a word, itself,
isn't the concept, itself;
and it's use would be to misdirect
from the nature of the experience,
and to mistranslate what I feel.

I realize the necessity
for names; for words:
we use them to facilitate communication.
I also understand their limit:
there is a great realm
beyond the transparent restraints
of our Languages.

I would identify the culprit
as either "Ego," or "Id."
But, better yet, I would argue
"both and neither."

Freud had some great ideas,
but I tend towards Jung-

I could sooner call it the Shadow,
or at least one aspect of it.

The Shadow is semi-subconscious.
It is an amalgam of fears and repression.
It can only hold so much pressure
before it erupts.
So,
I implore you
to study your Shadow.

It has great potential for change.
Failing to utilize it
is to be utilized by it.
Make it work for you
or you will work for it.
Use your Shadow
to your advantage,
or it will use you
to that of it's own.

Pick apart your Self;
put it back together.
Sometimes that's easier said than done,
but, with a proper mindset,
it'll come and leave
before you even know it.
It happens all the time.

Refuse the shackles
of thy Shadow;
break the chains
and share with the world
the fleeting feeling
of self-liberation.

That is,
if someone doesn't misinterpret what you've said;
looking through the Shadow,
everything looks darker.

Realize where you're going.
Realize what you're doing.

Heed what you feed,
external or internal.

Seek Balance.
Explore Ideas.

Anthrocentric Bias
So it would seem,
the only difference
twixt Animal Behavior
and Human Behavior
is a capacity
for written
and spoken
Language.
-
---Epilogue--

According to various 'dictionaries,'
the word "anthrocentric" doesn't exist.
I, however, define it as the same principals of
sexism, ethnocentrism, or nationalism,
but applied to the perception
of a validated stratification of Human Beings
over the entirety of the Web of Life,
rather than to simply
the ***, ethnicity or nationality
of another.

I feel
the natural world around us
is far more sacred than we are-
although we are spawned of it.

I feel
it is so much more sacred
due to an absent respect for it
and the other beings
which it hosts so well;
so selflessly.

We **** Sapiens Sapiens
have defiled our own sanctity
via lack of respect
for ourselves,
let alone others Beings;
Human, and otherwise.

Apparently, that isn't very popular.

So many Egos
would rather depend on
intentionally small sample sizes,
while many Ids
would rather self-preclude
the challenge of self-observation
fore a mere and fleeting
(most likely destructive)
comfort.

I venture to say that is a present form of cowardice.
--Afterword--
So,
like it or not,
t'is an expression of my Self.
I fell I owe it to myself
to express it exactly as such.
I don't think as I do
for popularity;
it's just who I am
and what I think.

Look things up.
Explore ideas.

Jupiter
God-King of the Heavens;
usurper of the throne of Saturn-
his Father,
the Titan-God of Time and Agriculture.
Saturn:
the personification of Time.
Also known as Chronos; Odin.

But, back to Jove-
that is to say, Jupiter:
archetype for Masculinity.

To some, the true Patriarch.

He's said to have once called himself YHWH,
but some know him as Yahweh, Jehovah, or Allah.
Others swear he goes by Zeus or Ammon,
and yet others, by Thor.

Or, perhaps
that name brings to mind
the largest planet in our Solar System.

The fifth from the Sun,
and largest by mass and volume:
Jupiter alone has 2.5 times the mass
of all the other planets combined.

It has a diameter of roughly 11 times that of Earth,
or about a 1/10th of that of the Sun.

I venture to say
that the Scientific and Mythological namesakes
both tend to have a similar temperament
and gravity
for they who are caught
within his sphere of influence.
A take on this challenge by Ellie Hughes:
http://hellopoetry.com/poem/1019852/book-poem-challenge/

I used an old dictionary as my book.
The word Jupiter occured in the definition of "Ammoniac," with referance to 'being said to grow near the temple of Jupiter.'

We need our women

I see it as overtly 'cherry-picking' as well as misogyny both ways;
sexist, selfish, and prejudiced on both sides:

'Feminists' (read: Feminazis) claim to plea for true gender equality, but here is my plea:
If such is true, where then are their demands for mandatory selective service?
Why do they feel above reproach when it comes to the unsavory sides of society?
Why do they turn a blind eye to the ******* Draft if they ***** up such a storm about equality?
Why is it not a federal offense punishable by a $250,000 fine as well as up to 5 years in prison
for a female to not sign their life away to the military from when they turn 18 until at least 25?

How is that 'gender equality'?
