This whole country is a crime seen,
3rd Eye’s blurry need some Visine,
driving home with one headlight,
can’t see straight hit the high beams,

feeling like a Wallflower that’s lost all power,
praying for peace while they continue fighting,
and I know I can’t stop all the violence,
but that won’t stop me from trying,

can’t get through to the new school,
try memes,
can’t get the truth through to these dudes,
they keep denying,

I mean what does it mean,
when a black kid’s not even safe in his own yard,
assassinated in his grandmother’s backyard,
story retold by the grandma of Stephon Clark,
trained killers hunted him down and ****** him,
maybe he would’ve survived if his skin was a little less dark,
maybe to see the light first we need a spark,
trying to keep it together even though things seem to be falling apart,

the use of deadly force is often excessive,
but penalties on the killers are rarely enforced,
as if a police officer’s badge is a license to ****,
it’s not any less savage because they’re in uniform,

what does that say of our society,
when boys getting killed my men is the norm,
and us kids are sick of it more than a little bit,
school shootings cop shooting what’s going on,

and where are our leaders at times like this,
I mean shout out to Emma Gonzalez,
I respect her heart and congratulate her courage,
but why do adults have to learn from kids,

where are our role models,
where is the love,
global warming it’s heating up,
still kids get killed in cold blood,

this is not a front,

I’m not fronting,
I’m not faking,
I’m whole foods,
they’re all bacon,

fat no protein,
facts no smoke dreams,
fact is these pros need practice,
because this whole country’s a crime scene,

every day another cover up,
got cameras on every block,
still when a kid gets shot,
it seems like the body cams are always covered up,

how can it be 2018,
where we’re constantly under surveillance,
yet we never see the footage of cops,
when they shoot civilians,

and I’m trying to stay patient,
but I’m running out a patience,

and it’s not just cops killing kids,
kids are killing kids too,
but most people don’t even want to hear about it,
let alone actually get up and move,

wanna know how many people have been killed by guns,
millions and millions in the United States alone,
and no one is safe not even a 22 year old kid,
siting in the backyard of his grandmother’s home,

this whole place is a Danger Zone,

this whole country is a crime seen,
3rd Eye’s blurry need some Visine,
driving home with one headlight,
can’t see straight hit the high beams,

feeling like a Wallflower that’s lost all power,
praying for peace while they continue fighting,
and I know I can’t stop all the violence,
but that won’t stop me from trying…

Stephon kissed me in the spring,
Robin in the fall,
But Colin only looked at me
And never kissed at all.

Stephon's kiss was lost in jest,
Robin's lost in play,
But the kiss in Colin's eyes
Haunts me night and day.
This isn't my poem. It was written by Sara Teasdale. I just love it's simplicity.

I close my eyes and pray. I hope we see the day,
That all this **** wastes away.
I try to contemplate the same reason I stayed. Hoping not to be afraid.
We empty the soil of our lifeless graves. And still we're the still the same.
Yeah, I know we've had enough.
Oppressors with handcuffs,
Professors that ****** us and the school system that kills us.
I realize that this corruption always was.

Eight shots hit Stephon Clark.
Once again the news hits hard.
Eight shots out of twenty or so
Brought him down in his grandma's backyard.

Helicopters circled above.
Police officers on the ground,
Suspecting Clark of a crime yelled out,
"Gun! Gun!" before he was downed.

Clark was holding NOT a gun
But a mobile phone. Officers said
The suspect charged at them before
They hastily shot the unarmed man dead.

But something is fishy: Six shots hit
The man in the back. By and large,
People do NOT normally
Rush backwards when they charge.

In retrospect, as we piece together
The flash of events that transpired,
We learned that after Clark had fallen,
Even more shots were fired.

Stephon Clark is another name
To add to an ever-growing list
Of unarmed black men killed by police
Whose actions cannot be dismissed.

Appropriate use of force is key;
But one thing is undeniable:
We simply can't allow ourselves
To justify the unjustifiable.

You’ve probably seen your share of horrors by now so one more shouldn’t steer you off of path
I know I missed the days of watching you grow and how you made everyone around you laugh
But I got caught up with some bad people and it cost me my life in whole
I had to watch you grow up from a distance while still trying to push you out your comfort zone, but that distance can’t be made up and your brain will forever have a hole
When you needed me most I had to leave you alone
And now you’re writing poems but it’s my fault why you’re not out there getting a New Years kiss
She’s a cute girl but I feel her attention is not where it should be and that’s where being crazy comes into play
And I patiently wait for when you become a father because that’ll be the day
I learn from my mistakes and can hopefully be a good grandfather
But if you have a son that’ll be the day I start breathing harder
Watching you and him interact together has a list of regrets running through my mind like a movie I’ve seen too many times
I’ll always admire how big and smart you’ve grown and how you stayed away from criminal crimes
And I’ve come to conclusion that all the things you said about me is true but most importantly I’m a deadbeat
You cooked me up good with the words you wrote but managed to watch me bleed while you salivated like rich people do at red meat
But just know there used to be a time when I was proud to have said I have a son
And if death disguised himself as a cop I’d jump in front of the gun
I never thought my absence would give you anxiety, but again that’s my fault
Try hitting up one of those Spanish girls on your Snapchat, that’s not fatherly advice just a man thought
Be one thing you can’t deny is before there was Gemini we all knew you as Stephon
The boy who lived to provide for his family and friends and would do it until god said it’s his time to be gone
And correct me if I’m wrong
But isn’t there a girl from your senior year in high school that killed you mentally when she chose him over you? I’ve seen the way you’ve been talking and looking at that girl from college so son I think it’s time to respawn
And stop writing poems about these girls and face to face tell them how you feel until the crack of dawn
My last wish from you is to tell that girl how you feel and maybe your words can hit her hard and you she can be the one to lift your anxiety curse

— The End —
