I received this gorgeous piece of abstract prose in my spam email folder. I was struck by how it was so effortlessly random and nonsensical in a way that I could never dream of achieving if I was trying to write it like that. I also love that it gives the reader no hints about the purpose of the spam email ie: what is being sold or what even what ideas are being conveyed. I like the idea that some computer somewhere wrote this, totally blind to the fact that anybody might find it amusing. A bit like a monkey with a typewriter. I consider this a 21st Century equivalent of Marcel Duchamp's Ready-Mades. Whilst I did not create this I will claim ownership over it until the genius who wrote it comes forward.

A thin piece of glass
separated me
from the destiny
I was born to cross
Its reflectance beckoned me
like a piece of gold dangling from a string
Hypnotized by the light
My soul stepped through
Breathing tiny shards of crystal
My lungs coated with divine vanity

I am but a cross

The orange sky paints her with fierce peace
As imperfect and lovely  as her
***** and wiry hair in the wind
Marked and pale skin reflectance of the pink sky hues
Alone she sits
On the edge of the bridge
A bottle in her hand
A smile as conflicted as an eclipse
She watches as the sun reaches mid point,
An eternal equinox that lasts only a moment
Her eyes neither green nor brown
A beautiful muddied mess
Her clothes are torn but fitting
Her hands are fiddling aimless
As she basks in independence and utter loneliness
And for a moment, she understands the world
She understands life, the galaxy, the earth
She feels her imperfections but her utter love for herself
And for a moment nothing hurts
And all as well
Then the sun continues to move,
And time resumes
Another sip out of the bottle
Another bittersweet smile and happiness mottled
But she knows what she knows
Has felt what she has felt
Looking at dawn or dusk
She looks at herself
Rising and falling,
In a beauty of furious colors
Bright and burning,
Ending and beginning,
Sunrise and Sunset girl
When do you know if you are winning?

It is a night like any other.
The room is semi-crowded,
the lights are cool, ambient and allusive.
The music glides and shimmies,
reflectance of electronic symphonies,
with a sinuous pulse to
provoke and tease.
Still, you sense a creeping unease.
You are on your second drink...yet,
somehow, even the 12-year old
Macallan is getting a little too familiar;
its usual savor of spiced plum, dry sherry and
salted caramel dies a slow death
by a cold-water corruption -- its once
robust quaff is reduced to a faint, forgettable flavor.
The dreary day, too, has been flat, predictable,
diffuse in focus and devoid of passion.
Life has been set adrift, on trepid tides.
The dissonance of these thoughts
unsettle your soul and mind.
You feel some kind of reckoning
approaches and is unavoidable.
Under your breath,
you ask in fraught confusion,
"What time is it? Why am I still here?"
The Bartender sees the lingering trouble
in your face and he provides
a moment of empathy, of quiet
understanding.
He reaches for the bottle in response but
suddenly stops and looks past you,
over your shoulder.
A subtle smile forms where
a sober shade once stayed.
He sees something that has changed
the energy in the room,
pivoting as if on a dime,
to a sweeter wave,
a smoother flow.
Someone approaches…
You realize you must turn to look, but
slowly, friend; get your bearings...
Settle your thoughts for a beat or two.
You stand and turn, adjusting focus...there she is.
"....wait. Whoa...
Breathe, brother. Steady, soul!"
Then it hits you:
You realize the sensation you feel,
that unstoppable, sharp, sweet,
seductive suffering,
is the longest and strongest
Of long, lost friends.
You remember
why you are here.
You know the time,
this moment you've waited for,
for so long.
Your heart speaks and
your eyes lock in,
to capture hers:
"Hello..."

I jumped off a cliff, and did not want to die this time. The time and preparation I took with a new found value for my life, kept me breathing. The harness I wore hugged my hips I once hated, while the neon rope kept me far above rock bottom. As I clipped into my climbing belay device from the top of the rock rather than the bottom for the first time, I had a revelation; I knew the harness I was wearing held legs that were stronger than ever before, the shoes on my feet kept me scaling above the expected, and the rope I tied into would lead me to stability and adventure. Harnessing the last of my inner strength allowed me to step into the shoes of the man I knew I was meant to be, all while trusting the ropes I learned during the time that I was away. I learned how to love boldly and with transparency.

Recognizing my ability to love and be loved I set foot on a journey to develop my underlying drive to better the environment. I took the information in like a luffa squash sponge anytime I could, resulting in a vast variety of knowledge. I was taught how to sow, fertilize, maintain and sustain hundreds of species of vegetables, flowers and fruits on seemingly endless lengths of garden beds. Wise mentors and old souls graced me with historical lessons an artifact of how us humans have interacted with the native land for over four centuries. All while highly educated and selfless individuals devoted their time to teaching sustainable and invaluable information to myself and the next generations to come. I want to be one of the wonderful humans who has taught me everything I know about farming and the environment thus far. I want to be a good human too.

Before I started that week in late spring of 2018, I had recently finished pushing myself through my first year at a community college. I was not only grieving the passing of the most incredible person I knew, but I was preparing to lay to rest the female self I once lived for 18 years. I needed to grab onto something to stay in this lifetime. With hard work, maturity, perseverance, self reflectance, and the ability to be honest with myself and others, I healed and I learned. Holding a record of my rapidly growing 1000 hours of environmental and agricultural experience between last farming season and the current one, I continue with an undeniably honest passion for actively learning and striving to create a life I want to be in. Taking the time to restructure my life while connecting with a countless number of unforgettable people to teach and guide me along the way has prepared me for this moment. I am ready for what is next. The time as come to succeed. My name is Neive Doyle, an organic farmer, transmasculine individual with a purpose to save the only earth we have.

There’s something about acceptance,
That really is the key,
Though often stalled by reluctance,
It’s how we need to be,
Then we can move to reflectance,
And that’s when we start to see,
From there we find transcendence,
It’s then that we are free.
