Shame makes us ugly
In our own eyes; forget not
Your dazzling beauty
Grantland Mar 2019
We all have bodies
Each perfectly imperfect
Be gentle with yours

Identical crows
Each one the other's shadow
Disappear amid the trees
Grantland Jul 2019
Clumps of tomatoes
Jewels of Judy’s labor
Gleaming in the sun

A poet’s desire:
That the words whisper to him
Of true things unseen
I have been working to find my voice in haiku and tanka poetry. I would love to share and discuss how to grow as a poet.

The TV is filled
With preachers of doom or waste
And other fun shows

Strange sounds in the night
A lofty conclave of owls
Meet in their sanctum
While camping with my wife last summer I was awoken by a sound I couldn't identify. I walked deeper into the woods and found, in the beam of my flashlight, a gathering of owls staring down at me with large, alien eyes. I felt elated to see these magnificent birds in the wild, but knew that I was trespassing on a gathering I couldn't fully understand.

It is hard to stop
My anxious ruminations
The path too well trod

Strike keys like matches
Posts like sparks on dry kindling
Set the world aflame
I wrote this little haiku shortly before I left social media.

Intricate sculptures
Brightly glinting by the curb
***** snow and ice
Crafted by plows - shaped by sun
Unintentional artwork

Precarious times
All cracked glass inside - waiting
For panic’s return
I’ve struggled with panic disorder for years now. I like to believe that I am stronger than the disease; that my toolbox is fillled with potent strategies. But after a few hard days the confidence can start to erode. That is what this poem is about.

The power of words
Which can pardon or condemn
Give shape to the world
