it’s the first day of March so beware
with a hint of sweet spring in the air
you might be tempted
thinking winter has ended
only to be caught by Jack Frost, unaware
sunprincess Feb 2018
Tangled in tree limbs
Misty mountain metaphors
winds blowing wildly
Mary E Zollars Feb 2018
So lets get this straight:
An armed, white man walks into a school,
kills 17 students and teachers with a tool
that can be bought at just any store
by a 19 year old, insane, fool,
before being caught, all on Valentine's day,
Marking the 30th mass shooting just this year
And it's not time to talk about gun control?

If they had been black, you'd say "more police"
If they had been Mexican, you'd say "build a wall"
If they had been Middle-Eastern, you'd say "travel ban"
But they're not, they're white, they're mentally ill,
so "Report the disturbed" our president says
"It's about mental health!" our congress says
"But it's not time to talk about gun control"

You send your thoughts and prayers,
while we're pleading for your help
You want to know my thoughts and prayers?
I thought our country cared about us
I thought our country loved us more than guns
And I pray that my school won't be next
That my friends won't be mourned on the internet
That we might be safe in our unsafe unchanging world
Because you won't talk about gun control

But you know what?

***** you if you think that's all we're gonna do
We're taking this horse by the reigns
Knock some sense into that old brain
We're organizing, rising up and wising up
Taking a stand, and taking a walk
Making our voices heard, better watch for that 10 o' clock
We will not be complacent in our friends' deaths
We've done it before and we will do it again
They say "when we're older"
I say "why wait till then"
These laws are going to change now
These deaths have got to be dwindling down
Everyone knows kids can be one loud crowd
And no, we won't calm down
Until no one ignores our outraged sound
We will make the politicians come around
And finally, gun control will bring peace to our towns

And finally, me, my family, and my friends, can feel safe, with long lives ahead,
and we can go back to school together again.
During element’ry school
Lunchtime was a drag
For the bologna sandwich
In my little brown lunch bag.

My favorite? The spice ham
I loved on grilled cheese.
Made bologna mediocre…
A cold cut for the breeze.

Now, turkey’s my favorite
Amongst the cold cuts.
It is healthy and tasteful—
No ifs, ands or buts.

Cold cuts, an old sidekick
Are convenient—take your pick.

I fight for my sisters
The ones whose own voice was ripped away

I fight for my daughters
The little girls who risk their lives for knowledge

I fight for my mothers
The women who gave up everything

I fight for my grandmothers
The ones who fought for me

Just another hovering face amidst the millions
Clammy hands twitch like newborn foe
Instinctive to endless madness within us all
As a single entity, we gaze upon the heavens
Tattered clothes mimic these tattered lives
From which we can now be free
Darkness plummets towards earth and all its wonders
Like the master taming the frail
Silence has no place here
As it is chased down and executed in front of all
**** you for your feathered beauty
And **** you for keeping the calm
Now our voices will be heard across the land
From deep within our lungs we will scream our last chant
Together, our clatter will crack holes in         time
Our sound will travel forever past this insanity
Further than the rage that is instilled in you
Further than the Gods which you pray upon
We will not answer to you no more as peasant flock
Our time is now to revolt against ALL aspects of your life
May our lives be a sacrifice for those who come next
As a platform to disarm the ugly we face
We have the power!
And we have the grace!
To take back what is ours!
NO MORE SILENCE!
NO MORE PEACE!
WE ARE THE NEVERENDING
FLAME OF PAIN THAT WILL FINNALLY BE HEARD!

What happened?
Oh wait I remember
A president was elected
But we didn't get him
Instead we a got a dictatorial regime.

Freedom of speech was the first right to go
Slowly but surely
Prisoners of war
Accumulated in the prisons.

College kids and Activists
Beaten, *****, shot, ridiculed.
They might as well have been tarred and feathered

How sick do you have to be to shoot at a girl
Sitting
With her eyes closed
Crying for her country?

How sick do you have to be to paralyze a 15 year old boy
Walking
With the rest of us
For his future?

And don't get me started on the grandpa
Who was marching
with his grandchildren

Or the violinist
Dedicating a tune to his country

All trying
To escape from this country
Plagued by insecurity, inflation, and corruption.

The only thing we have left
Is a small scrap of hope.
i don't usually write about Venezuela, because it is a very touchy subject for me but i couldn't help it after yesterday

For the first time in a long time i didn't see your face or think of you when i kissed someone else. It felt good. The longing for it to be you didn't wash over me in a wave of guilt and annoyance.
Part 3 of 12. By the end of march i still couldn't finish this. I don't seem to care enough anymore. (Written - 7/03/2017)

yesterday with you in
March, the cherry
blossoms - please
don't miss the little
flowers in your
search for a more
giving thing because
my sweetest love,
there is none. only
the children know
this, but I think
we are all children
after the rain.
