"It was in the past"
"Everyone who survived is now dead"*

Yet she still sits at the bottom of the ocean,
A once great, beautiful ship.
Now split in two.
Her once stark white body,
Still rusting and rotting.
Her passengers once full of life,
Now full of the icy water that took their lives.
The ship that was unsinkable,
Sunk
another Titanic poem.

I have exhausted myself writing all of these home and seasick poems where I'm the bottomless ship and you are the cruel and vigorous waves. I convince myself that each word that drips is my attempt to come up for air and that maybe if I empty enough out... I can breathe. Even just for a second, even just with a sentence the deep blue surrounding will cease to swallow me whole but it's there. You are there. To ignore is ignorant and to notice is notification and to hold onto it is ****** and gruesome like the sharp double edges of the sword bludgeoned into my spine; the only thing of yours you left inside me that I can call mine. Selfishness is trying not to forsake swimming, to continue letting it rust and rot, but I do not care because it is the only that you have given that I got. So-so, so be it! I'll allow you to fill my lungs, drown them if that means my hunger for you is diminished. Finished, but will enough ever be enough?
No.
No word has ever spoke so well, no, and salt has never tasted more sweet. Amongst all this time I have tried to remain afloat I can finally admit there is nothing for you I'd **** but me. But it will do if that means I have the opportunity to sink into you.

Walls were pressed and hammered
Therapy for workers, curing pangs of comforts
They sat between fleshy webs of knuckles
On lunch break they would pluck pouts of moldy fruit
If only she could hear summer of 98’
Glimmering puddles and sinkable reasons
She could test her strength with Goldfish and a drippy, chocolate cupcake
Matching deserts of skin covering joints young enough to bend
They spat against another, sweating. Tapping
Smoother than honeymooners in a convention center
Frigid or uncontrollable, no one could tell
The breezeway connected teeth, the left chipped in the corner from
A muddy softball game. Their team won 7-2.
Wide enough to squeeze uncooked macaroni shells between
Became the dusky neighborhood game.
Transitioning humans, males most likely, whispered fears between that gap.
He was different. He waited in outside the doors, near the trash bins
With grumpy janitors, muttering, “fuggin’ kids” and things like that.
She loved how ugly they were then.

Her thoughts trailed him, what was left of him, as he paced
Searching for the mug he left there, no
There, holding wet tissue, no
Soggy cupcake liner
Cupcake, shortcake, cake, cake liner
Rainbow or musty brown from 346 degrees Fahrenheit
Baking Therapy Class held in her kitchen
Maybe because she could pound at the dough and it would never fight back
She neglects the finale of rumbling coffee exhale since she knows
He’d never come back. Not here or any party she threw.
But on another hard drive she saved photos of September 20th.
She’ll flip mindlessly through a Cosmopolitan, until she can forget his name

I saw you and that girl
behind the maths block
Reynard said
we were playing ball

and there you were
caught out
the corner of my eye
and as he spoke

you watched Parrot
writing something
on the blackboard
his curly haired head

moving side to side
as he wrote
and you could see
in your mind’s eye

Christina leaning
against the fence
behind the maths block
her eyes lit up

with a young girl’s passion
and you leaning in
towards her
wanting to kiss her

wanting to feel
her lips on yours
but she kept on talking
her lips opening

and closing
like a fish out of water
and her hands placed
over her groin like guards

and she said she wanted
a photo of you
to pin
to her bedroom wall

and you said you’d
seek one out for her
and she said
she had one

of herself for you
and then she spoke
of her parents
and her mother’s

depression
and about her older brother
which was lost
in the whisper

of her words
and on and on
she went
and all you wanted

was to feel her lips
on yours
in the few moments
you had alone with her

and even though
you leaned in closer
she talked on
and on

her breath warm
and almost liquidy
against your face
her eyes

like small mirrors
dark and sinkable
and just as
she became silent

and you felt it time
for the kiss to come
the bell rang
and she up

and moved
and touched your hand
and left and you caught
a quick glimpse

of her thigh
as she moved away
and Reynard said
did you get your hand up

or get a snog?
just then Parrot
the teacher
turned around

and threw
a piece of chalk
at you
stop the noise

he bellowed
stop the talk.
The purser can still hear the cries
on that night, on the cold seas
the haunting shouts in the darkness
muffled shouts of help the helpless

That terrible night that the lady sank
when the lights went out replaced by stars
waiting and praying in the darkness
waiting for rescuers some just for release

In a distant lifeboat a child was sobbing
Mummy please wake up Please
and they turned her over the side
giving a hand to the next in the water to survive

The ship unsinkable
was a ship sinkable
made to the depths of the sea
with chilled patrons liken to you and me

Not too sure why
But finding peace within myself is hard
Even when I find the perfect guy
I still hold up my guard

I want to let go
Make things easy
To stop feeling low
Stop feeling queezy

Go back to fun nights
Just living life
Where we didn't fight
And be in the future, where I'm your wife

The future is scary
Something I can't control
Someday I'd like to get married
And always have your hand to hold

But that's not certain
Although it's up to us
To make new beginnings
And never end trust

I'm sorry I'm this way
It's harder for me to live
Sometimes I don't know what to say
All I can do is give

"Tú sin mí"
Is unthinkable
"Yo sin ti"
Is sinkable

Our language can't be reproduced
But I am replaceable
And that's up to us
Y yo lloro y lloro

Por favor mío
I can't stop to think
Take me to Río
Just give me a drink

Is the love there?
I question sometimes
I'm sorry I'm so scared
Overthinking is such a crime

It's difficult to understand.
I just want to sleep
Hold your hand
And know I have you to keep

I am no Pirate to you.
I am no thief.
I am to you what you are to me.
Treasure.

A Goddess to I.
A Treasure to thee.
Those Sapphire Eyes;
Can never lie to me.

Forever immortalised in my poetry.
Once a Muse, always a muse.
For a muse doesn't die.
A muse, like a volcano: sleeps.

Seeking to be awakened.
Seeking the Robins to embrace the cold winter.
Seeking the Sparrows to wonder the oceans.
Seeking the Sirens to sing sweet melodies.

A Muse is an un sinkable ship.
Holding tight to its treasure.
Protected by its Goddess.
Drifting slowly along the current.
