Please gods, help me get up
Today it’s one of those days
When I just want to lay all day
Hide in between the sheets
Fight monsters in my dreams
They are nicer.

I fell for you like leaves do,
I bent for you like knees do,
What could I do
But leave you.

Plans of mice and men, end,
And we lose our way,
And it hurts to care,
Picking stars from the air.

I played with you,
I hid from you,
I'll see you
Dreaming.

Feel free to call me
The Ever-Changing Man
I can turn on a dime
Change on a whim

There's not a direction
I haven't tried
It's not about correction
I just have no spine

It's easy to see
I'm the Ever-Changing Man
The direction I lean
Doesn't come with a plan

Without convictions
It's easily done
No learning of lessons
At every wrong turn

I only look to my needs
The Ever-Changing Man
If it's easy street, I'll dance to the beat
Just strike up the band

For the Ever-Changing Man...

EMPATHY

the dirty poet
my identity is so slippery
my empathy so complete
(empathy, NOT sympathy)
that i’m not sure who’s me
when strolling a crowded street

I can't shake this hunger,
I just wanna be younger,
Instead I'm torn asunder,
Unhappy in the summer.

Have at thee,
I won't plea,
That's on me,
Please, oh please,
Leave me be.

My highest point
Hanging
Abyss below me
Fence fraying above me
And what I'd do to see it hold
When all I can see is the nails
Come loose

The ground I once stood on
Always shook
For me who thought that the
Sides of the fence were not meant
To be joined
And I who came to stand on it
My zenith
Before the floor stopped shaking
And fell away completely

Balance
Only a necessity for those who
Choose an in-between
Time will always run out
Quicker for those
Who try to hold onto
The flimsy fence that separates
Green grass
From even more green grass
One side gone yellow to the other
And one side uprooted to the other

And the fence
That always stood as wood
Aging in splinters and mold
Is still wood
Until it comes free
It is then scraps
For whichever side chooses
What use it is fit for
Because sticks and stones
Will break bones
But sticks cannot repair
Broken strands of bark
Where blades of grass can mend
In the sun

And the fence that sat there
Performed it's duty
Unstable on stable ground
Stability withdrawn smoothly
Cut when not on grounds
Comes loose

Hanging
Fingers locked in place

Paint layers walls
And walls layer houses
Uncarefully placed
In our carefulness
Comforted in perfection unreachable

And what wisdom lays
In a world that wreaks destruction
On the weak foundations that we sow
And the even weaker plants that we reap
Fabricated
Cheap
An amalgamating mess
Painted onto
Thin fragile walls
Holding up
Thin fragile houses

the sky leaves traces of light on my skin
the lunar plexus is singing
I'm receiving these images from the future
the missing steps of memory come between  us
do not touch this fiery boundary cause you might
melt me down into a sweet oblivion
it's impossible not to love you from this edge
of a palimpsest full of wonder
