Idiosyncrasy
"The whole world was: too cold, too big, and too cruel."*

If you fear the world is too cold,
I promise I'll be here to keep you warm.

If it's too big for you,
I assure you, you're the only world I need.

If the world is too cruel,
I'll take the oath and make it safer.

Because there is no greater tribulation than a heart left to die cold.
"Ellen had said that her mother was afraid of the ocean, that it was too cold and too big. The sky was, too, thought Annemarie. The whole world was: too cold, too big and to cruel."- Number the Stars, Lois Lowry

Candlelit caverns
hum softly to
song like echoes
sung by a duet of
our hearts

Tonight I shall dream of an autumn encounter
Holding my head oh so high to the sky
Finding the north holds my one true desire
Realizing days do not end with good bye

Maple leaves fall in affectionate patterns
Seasoned devotion now scenting the air
Passions are stored in a southern collection
Numbered in order of all that we share

For in my mind I imagine horizons
Borderline longings our footprints will trace
Oceans of fresh water rippled sensations
Plaid flannel shirts that are worn in this place

Poetic pleasures to breathe in her writing
Softly they whisper, caressing my skin
Long in between yet so worth the time waiting
Closing my eyes hoping words will begin

Here now I stand all alone in this moment
Finding the glow of your smile on a star
Feeling your touch in a moon beam of quivers
Knowing this dream is wherever you are

Counting the days as the nights become shorter
Riding a cloud in the heavens above
Daring our hearts to be those we can capture
Lost in this realm that is known as our love

I made a wish upon a star
this evening in the sky
To send my love to where you are
as it goes shooting by

We lay in the soft grass

picking out shapes in the white fluffy clouds
as they wander across

a brilliant blue sky

You gaze above and whisper
“I have never seen anything more beautiful”

I stare at their reflection in your eyes and say,

“Neither have I”

tiny as a seed,
but there's a life inside of me.

let it be because she reminded you of me.
that her blonde hair was cut in a chopped short mess,
just like mine.
and her laugh was a silent, gasping for air, kind of laugh.

that her eyes were green but you imagined they were blue,
that her lips almost tasted like my coconut chapstick,
that if you squinted your eyes hard enough,
she had my freckles.

let it be because she was wearing my favorite perfume,
because she was wearing my favorite color,
or because she was wearing black nail polish
that she had a bad habit of scratching off.

let it be because it was just a kiss,
because it didn't mean anything.
let it be because you were missing me,
and she was the closest thing.
let it be a stupid, heat of the moment, mistake.

let it be because you were drowning in loneliness,
and she was a boat.
or let it be because you couldn't feel me anymore,
and she was just at arms reach.
let it be something you will never do again...

just don't let it be because you don't love me anymore.

oh, to be the muse of a poet.

-
tear them apart
just to see how they turn the blood and tears
into a work of art.
-

oh, to be the muse of a poet.
-always been the poet, never a work of art.

the soft hum of the car engine

as we roll down the road

ombré leaves float away

from the comfort of their branches

you've inhaled two cigarettes

as we rumble towards the fair

traffic moves at a turtle's pace

just as our minds wander

the radio rambles on

autumn must be the softest season
