Maybe,
You and I are just sick people,
laughing at a sick joke,
and we'll only ever have
each other to love
so we hollow out the ground
to lay our bodies side by side
and replace the dirt
so we can feel
the weight of our choices.

You   are
                   undeniably

                                Beautiful

               Inside
And
                           Out.
I wish you’d left a mark on my skin,
something to last for days,
something you can’t do.

I considered lying back in bed
with you.
So that if I never left
and we never parted,
we’d remain in the glowing bliss,
and you wouldn’t have disappeared again.
yes i smoke

i smoke to put something in my hand

to replace the same place your hand used to rest

so maybe its a force of habit

yes i smoke

just to keep something warm near me

because most things are painfully cold lately.

You are an illusion
and you left me with confusion

Long may you run
my daughter,
my son.

Long may you dance
to the songs
of
many suns.
Long may you feel
my love
after I am un done.

Long may you
head into the light
may your heart
open
with each breath,
as night comes again.

May you
have
someone by your side
for
the long ride
to
climb inside
and
find the peace of home
for a long long time.

May your eyes
continue to shine
find
the blessing in each sorrow
at
the end of the line.

Long may you run
my daughter,
my son.

Long may youth
burn so bright
inside
Despite the cards dealt
the obstacles felt
the ties that bind
the ribbons of time.

Long may you run
my daughter,
my son.

Long may you laugh
let friendships hold you
creativity flourish
in
brilliant flashes

May your heart
stay true
to do what you need to do

Long may you run
my daughter,
my son.

Though
time and distance
may separate us
across the continents
across the oceans
where ever we may find ourselves
I
send this birthday wish
to you
long may you run
my daughter,
my son.
Neil Young, obviously, Long May You Run,  different context,  different meaning, but fit the feeling and the idea exactly. Credit where credit is due for the phrase.
No one can compete with Bob Dylan's Forever Young and not meant as an imitation
words to my children on a birthday.
