I do not love you,
You read it right,
As saying just I love you is so less.

Because I more than love you, partner,
Yes you're right,
I am totally mad.

Oh beloved princess,
I'm just a commoner,
I just drink cannabis,
Lime & shank I have.

You are daughter of the king,
I lack any maids or servants,
You are protected by shawls,
I lack even a blanket or rug..

Get married to a moneylender,
Marry a lucky man...

I have pieces of purity,
But I'm just a commoner,
I just drink cannabis,
Lime & shank I have.

You live in the palaces,
I roam the wilderness,
You are not used to it,
I am used to roaming.

Get married to a rich man,
Marry a lucky man.

I just have purity in me,
Yes, I'm a commoner,
I just drink cannabis,
Lime & shank is all I have.

I carry on my austerity in incense,
I drink a slurry of cinders,
I tame hundreds of snakes on my neck,
I will scare you off my saturnalia.

You need a man with wavy hair,
A man with wavy hair.

My hair is dishevelled,
I am a commoner,
And I drink cannabis,
All I have is a lime & shank.
Translation of a Haryanvi folk hymn.

According to folklore, Lord Shiva tells this to his future wife Sati who was a princess that wanted to get married to Shiva.

She has things her own way in the end and marries the God.

In the story, Sati enters the fire when Shiva drinks the venom after Samundra Manthan - a tussle for the Nectar and thus sparing Shiva his life.

Sati was reborn as Parvati who in turn is a manifestation of Shakti - the energy.

Such are mythical love stories.

So many imprints
Left behind by memories
Idle moments
Urges us to walk back
Down the path, almost faded
Time has not yet
Obliterated the territories
Inhabited, at different times in past
Now, barely manages to hold
Over time, will be completely erased
But, for now slide down, unwillingly
Revisiting the memories
Some happy and others heart wrenching
Insipid and sepia moments
Memories that the mind won’t let go
Sometimes they become a vortex
And you are siphoned off
To a known, yet now, fading events

You only get
one
line...

I think...

I've
squandered
mine...
You only get one life.
Living it is easier said than done.
As I sat down to write this poem
Of my life and its goings on
I couldn't figure out what to say
So I decided to save it for another day

Then I thought why not tackle love
But hasn't love been written of enough
So it went by the wayside like my life
Coming back to it another time

I then set my sights on comedy
Which is always fun to write for me
I gave it my best serious attempt
But didn't care for the way that went

Should I turn to writing sadness and pain
Cause life's not always fun and games
But with that's there's nothing much to gain
Plus it's not really my forte

How about something more profound
That's when I stood and looked around
But couldn't find a single thing
So that thought is also now history

I guess I'll just have to wait
To write one of these poems another day
And settle for the here and now
With what it is above I've written down
I stood on the city street
And asked the passers by
All the folks I chanced to meet
What they thought of life

I got a different answer
From everyone I spoke
But isn't that a well known fact
That I should have known

Some said life's a circus
With all these clowns around
3 rings to be exact
If you care to count

Others said life's a minefield
So be careful where you step
One wrong move and you'll go boom
Leaving nothing left

Life is also a roller coaster
With a slow climb to the top
But once it is you get there
Hold tight for the drop

Then there was life's a puzzle
Built piece by piece until your done
But be careful in the end
You don't find a missing one

But also life's a symphony
So let's strike up the band
And just hope you play first row
And all the notes you understand

Not forgetting life is a game of cards
Where you play the hand your dealt
Hoping while your in mid-bluff
That your not found out

Yes everyone I asked that day
Had a different view on life
While some of them could be wrong
I'm sure most of them were right
