If what we write is what we say
then maybe my words could make you sway
If what we write is what we say
then maybe you would stay.

If what we write is what we say
then maybe I’d no longer think of you as I lay
If what we write is what we say
then maybe I’m no longer writing you this way.

Stars At Dawn

as i sat on a soft
and mowed lawn,
i saw the morning light
of the becoming dawn.

as i closed my eyes
to make a wish,
i remembered you as my star,
gone but alive in my mind at least.

You have everything I lack he said.
But what if i lack nothing,
Does that mean I have no one to love?

with a mouth of
venom
you pronouce
your love
a history that won't be relived

it's getting dim outside
you were all things light
now you're moving away
i suppose the sunlight
follows you

Vast lists of names at cenotaphs
on crosses, in columns of newspapers,
inscribed by those who lived, for those
I never knew so can't remember.

Reduced to uniform remains,
some named 'Soldier of the Great War'.
A greatness in numbers lost,
lives wrecked - measures of excess.

November flags dip, bands march,
standing to mark with silence
violence done to those unknown to them.
Some lament more recent deaths.

The piety of war.

The sickened sight of death befalls,

Catching each alarmed,

Yet in the turmoil of excess,

We all are grotesquely charmed.
