James Joyce
Gentle lady, do not sing
Sad songs about the end of love;
Lay aside sadness and sing
How love that passes is enough.

Sing about the long deep sleep
Of lovers that are dead, and how
In the grave all love shall sleep:
Love is aweary now.

the space between existence and nothingness
is where I linger,
wander,
absolute nothingness.
the breath between words,
the pause,
the tension,
the stillness,
empty.

you lose focus often
in their phrases
that it's hard to find your space
if you never stop to breathe

a world filled with everything,
a world filled with nothing.
it is important to give yourself space rather than crowd yourself with meaningless conversation...
Depression 2
I was often jealous of my brother he had what I lacked
which was charm and people were drawn to him
he was intelligently knowledgeable without demonstrating
his aptitude and when someone said a stupid thing he smiled
And refrain from stinging anyone with sarcasm.
Where he worked and when the management had a problem
with the workforce, they came to him for advice.
But he had a dark side he could be absent, silent and sat
drinking for the day, at such a time no one came near him.
Then suddenly he snapped out of it and was his old self.
Illness struck him down he died 38 years old.
I was hot-tempered and argumentative, but he could
calm me with a few jokes and just by being there for me.
I know now that he was suffering from a severe depression
Which no one knew about, he likes a drink they said and left it at that?
But no day goes by when not thinking of him he was glad at heart
On my lack of tolerance but he was always there for me.

plastic petals live longer than roses
roses will die
but plastic petals will not
they were not alive in the first place
a facade of what they are
supposed to be
sometimes it feels easier to not show emotion, to be someone else. Being a fake version of you is not authentic, only plastic.

what makes me human
is my desire

to taste the drifts of winter
to smell the waves of summer

to guide the breeze of autumn
to grow with the flowers of spring

if i could manipulate the world
to paint the perfect portrait

the seasons would be beautiful;
and life would be simple.

if i could do anything
and everything,

you would bloom with the blossoms
and fall with the foliage

you would graze in the green
and sway with the snow

paintings portraits and pictures
of the life i need
want
and love
sometimes we wish for everything we don't have, but we have to grow to accept the reason we came to this world.

The last time I felt the touch of your frail fingers
Was the dawn of your dynasty.
Doubts, questions, confessions.
"No,
you, my love,
do not have to say anything."
"I was able to love you more,"
You say,
And that was enough.

Do not wake the lady from her sleep,
I say.

Shall your lips tremble again,
Mine will quiver a million times more.
Shall your eyelids flicker open,
Mine will forget to blink.
Let the riverbank gather.
Let the moss amass.
Let the trees collect frost.
Let the snow glaze past.
And let their leaves starve and die.

This moment of stillness,
Where I carry emptiness,
Shall never be forgotten.
The weight of my lover’s last breath upon my shoulders,
This is where your dynasty begins.

Hello everyone,

I'm so very sorry … I feel horrible doing this, but I have no choice. You see, I have published my first book on Amazon/Kindle! This piece (and many others) had to be taken down because they do not allow published material to be available online for free. (Go figure) I wanted to leave the shell of the posts because I felt compelled to leave all your helpful and loving comments. (Silly sentimental, I know), but I also didn't want to just have the pieces disappear without an explanation. I feel bad enough as it is!

I owe ALL of you so, SO much for all of your reads, love, and support. It was YOU that gave me the gumption to FINALLY get off my **** and publish! Thank you all for the warm comments, camaraderie, and encouragement! I will still be here, reading, uploading and just being the Rascal that I am. How could I EVER leave you guys?

The book is called “The Way I See It – FictionPhilosophySoul Food” and it will be FREE for the first few days on Kindle Select, so watch for it, if you are interested. I hope that you go and grab it. If you do, I would also hope that you find it worthy, you would leave me a good review. That will help me get in the public eye! Soon afterward (2-3 days or so), it will be available in paperback. I will be building my Author page tonight (12/21/2018) and my website finished first thing Monday!

Find the book(s) here: www.amazon.com/author/jeff.gaines

Or find the book(s), and all about me, here: www.JeffGaines.world

Soon after, I also hope to have my first novel (a supernatural thriller), called “Wanderer” available as well!

  Wish me luck!
Big, Biggest Love,
        Jeff Gaines
I wrote this lullaby for my HS sweetheart after she came over to my house crying and was all upset that her family had just told her to leave me and to  "Forget that dreamer!"

I can't say I blame them, in hindsight. I was yer typical parents worst nightmare: Long hair, torn jeans, loud-crazy shirts/clothes, singing in a band, bouncer at a pool hall, big mean Doberman Pinscher, hot rod Firebird Formula, big ol' party house with a pool ... you get the picture.

This poem has been up here since Feb/2018. But I guess during the last server cleaning, it somehow got deleted along with the last two paragraphs of my notes to "The Longest Piece Ever Uploaded To Hello Poetry".

I discovered that and luckily had it backed up, so I replaced the missing notes. Last night I read "I love You" (another lullaby written for her and posted here at HP) and when I went to find this one, it was totally gone.

Better check yer posts. There could be missing bits or even WHOLE POEM uploads!
