The Kiss of Ceridwen
by Michael R. Burch

The kiss of Ceridwen
I have felt upon my brow,
and the past and the future
    have appeared, an eerie vapor,
mingling with the here and now.

And Morrigan, the Raven,
the messenger, has come,
to tell me that the gods, unsung,
    will not last long
when the druids’ harps grow dumb.

Munching, crunching on a bone,
The trolls of Langwood growl and moan.

Through feral mutterings and drivel,
They gulp and choke down last night's grizzle.

In their cave on rocky mountains high,
Their scaly skin cracks from air so dry.

Once human men poisoned by greed,
Transformed into ogres for their misdeeds.

They prayed on people of modest means,
Until our good sorceress intervened.

She protects our land and keeps us safe,
From warlords and bankers filled with hate.

Condemned to live long foul lives,
The trolls of Langwood miss their wives.

For they now resemble their truer selves,
Forever denied the beauty of men and elves.

A woman full of menace and desire;
Freckles laced upon a pale complexion,
wide eyes colored a misty sapphire,
and ink-like locks resting in opposition.

As an artist amidst her painted skin
she dreamt of love and moonlit nights,
confidence arose from a source within
while summoning her mystical insights.

Masses of books sprawled across a desk,
drawings with notes and candles afire,
a scene she considered quite picturesque;
a place of confinement in which she conspired.

A woman who is known by many monikers:
sorceress, occultist, clairvoyant, bewitcher.
In the form of Shakespearean sonnet rhyme scheme

Whatever you say Sorceress..
I exist only to accept & obliterate each of your challenges, till I am free...
of these bindings!!  However, even then ....I feel I shall follow you:
within portals embedded in your shadows, as well as through the glimmerings & crystals, freckling your every reflection.

...His soul moaned.
Perhaps I will muse off of this on a rainy day.  Still have yet to figure how my mind works.  Something about this struck me though.  Visually?  I am not sure, but my gut tells me to put it aside for now.

She who lives in
Darkness and in light
Entertaining her precious soul
While dancing in the flames
Flaring in the depths of her mind
Master of thought
Commander of thought
Dreamer of cloud height dreams
Fantasizer of dreams shrouden in black smoke
Eyes as receptors to the world
The black hallowed earth around her
She walks this black earth
She who is
The Hallowed Maiden
