Insurrection
by Michael R. Burch

She has become as the night—listening
for rumors of dawn—while the dew, glistening,
reminds me of her, and the wind, whistling,
lashes my cheeks with its soft chastening.

She has become as the lights—flickering
in the distance—till memories old and troubling
rise up again and demand remembering ...
like peasants rebelling against a mad king.

Harshly I trod upon the ground,
Even as I get tired I do not stop,
Atypical life I am leading alone,
Very lonely I edge towards death,
Youth seems to be fading away.

Blessings all seem to fade away,
Lying on the bed I will take rest,
In my usual days I suffer pain,
She has given me enough of it,
Too much is never a definition,
Easy is to bear this pain I invited,
Reddish-brown these toes get,
Should not be anything else.

On my head lingers this probability,
None might be with me during my end.

May my sufferings end soon,
Yes I need help with my state.

Toiling hard to lose weight,
On a weight loss spree I am,
Exhausted is the will to live,
So hard I strive to survive.

Showering her love she is not anymore,
Her healing touch is not here any longer,
Owe I do my life to my parents today,
Unending ordeal it may seem today,
Let some time pass and it may shine,
Dub the suffering as another exam.

Now I just wish you to shine, oh life,
Of light be the torch bearer, oh life,
Today I will request you, oh life.

Beautifully you can also be bettered,
Exploring you I have been always.

Do not be so harsh, oh life,
I** am definitely so tired now,
A ray of hope I see in the future,
Better be somewhat happier,
Especially when I request,
Till few days I want to live happily,
Eating some good ice-cream,
So please let me breathe, oh misery.
My body is rebelling against me.

And I am too young for diabetes.

Rooster has to crow in the morning
Cat has to prowl around at night.
I see a petty dictator ruining lives
I grab my pencil ready to fight.
We’re not in the dark ages anymore.
Nor are we still in the Old West.
We don’t slap on a pistol and go out
And put a bunch of lead into the pest.

So, I write down the words that I feel.
I call a snake-oil salesman what he is.
I carefully explain what a crook looks like
And show off the difference from a Wiz.
They may claim they’re an eagle today
If that is the delusion they are in.
But I will be quick to dispel such a lie
By pointing out the wattles on their chin.

Pigeons spread their droppings all over.
Dog likes to dig around in the dirt.
I have to point out the creeps in the world
Then take appropriate joy when they’re hurt.
My hope is the people that are fooled will see
They don’t have to sit and eat the lies.
They can stand up and ***** in the face
Of those who are criminals in disguise.

Tell any scoundrels exactly what they are
And let them know you are not fooled.
Don’t let them walk away feeling proud.
Make sure they’re appropriately schooled.
Knock any martinet off their pedestal.
Tell them you think they are a clown.
Don’t leave their ego in undented shape.
Then go on and kick them when they’re down.

(I’m) talking about
Freedom!
Peace and liberty
A land of
Freedom!
Love and equality
Freedom!
Is what we need to see!

Maya Angelou said it
So, it has to be
The caged bird sings
But it is not free.
Pretending for money
Won’t make it be.
There is no substitute
For being free.

Freedom for you
Freedom for me
Freedom!
For every ethnicity!
Freedom!
For both gay and straight
Freedom!
For all, we can’t wait.

Always there are thieves
Who would steal your rights.
They exist on the left
And they exist on the right.
They get paid to rob you
And never let you be
If you aren’t vigilant
You’re never really free.

Freedom!
Before someone kills it.
Freedom!
Because the country wills it!
Freedom!
Saw The Liberty Bell crack.
Freedom!
It’s yours if you take it back.

Democracy is a concept
And we have to protect it.
Money-making crooks
Will try to make you reject it.
They tell you everything
Will end up just fine
Because freedom cuts in
To their bottom profit line.

(I’m) talking about
Freedom!
Peace and liberty
A land of
Freedom!
Love and equality
Freedom!
Is what we need to see!
