How many people have I disappointed?
I do **** and maybe I like it
I don't.
I search for nothing
I grab an apple from the ground when it was supposed to be from a tree above
rootless.
So I'm hated for being naive
But convincing is good
Good for the mind; functioning but discombobulated
Convinced equals the force of what the mass equals in Newtons?
Oh **** it. If it's balanced I'll take it.

the limit of proportionality
is the is the point beyond which Hooke's law is no longer true

where the material you are stretching
becomes permanently stretched
so that the material does not return to its

and i guess people are like that too

you can only stretch for so long
until you reach a point where you break

when i was in high school
i sat through class after class
learning things i didn't particularly care about
from skimming torn up copies of "Of Mice and Men"
to consistently failing every math test i ever took
i was a mess of glazed over eyes and too much makeup
staring at the clock waiting for the day to tick by
it would be fair to say that i absorbed little
to no information

but one day in science class
the teacher gave us a lesson on newtons laws
newtons third law of motion states that
for every action there is an equal an opposite reaction
that law made sense to me
until years later
when you told me you loved me
and i could not say it back

i remember being wrapped in your arms
the only place where the monsters inside my rib cage stopped trying to claw their way out
your words strong and brave like a pack of wolves on a hunt for my beating heart
i looked into your eyes and
saw a world of wonder that i would never get to explore
and i wonder if you saw an abandoned theme park with a no trespassing sign
when you looked into mine
you found beauty in me when everyone else
only saw the weeds sprouting from the cracks in my pavement
I was a burning house and you were a brave hero
running inside to save the children trapped in the attic
but it wasn't long until you realized that
you can not flip a person
in the same way that you can flip a house
when you replaced my windows
and the neighborhood kids threw bricks
through the glass
when you repainted my walls
that soon came crumbling down
your love was a quick fix that i knew would not last

newtons third law of motion states

that made sense to me
until a few years later
when i finally told you i loved you
and your response was
"but i don't love you"

I fall asleep before 11 PM and dream that I am grazing graveyards with my fingerprints that I thought were my own when it turns out they are identical to yours. I wake up feeling soft and I wait for you to get up so that I can take over the warm spot your body left – it feels to me like the soft and butter-sunken center of a pancake stack and I like that. I like you enough to want you to come back but I do not love you enough to pay for your name to be on my license plate. I want hell to freeze over because that’s when you said we could be together and maybe afterwards we could go ice-skating there? I will lick your eyeballs with snowflakes on my tongue and fire underneath my feet. I think about you eating Fig Newtons and laughing at Wallace and Gromit, even though I’ve never seen you do either of those things. I feel like you’re wrong about most things but I would think the same way for you. I am trying to become a smaller part of the universe and less of a burden to you so that you can dangle me off of one pinky finger. I mouth-kiss you but it’s not the same as sleeping on your stomach. I mouth-kiss you and wish I hadn’t. I mouth-kiss you and wish you were a caramel apple. I mouth-kiss you in a futile attempt to remember what my fifteenth birthday was like. I mouth-kiss you period. I will wean off of you – eventually, and wane, and waste away.

Drums of sound reaching me.
I thought of to be a normal beat.
It has its own meaning in it.
It says react to the situations that coming to you.
Sound as much as you can for the beating destiny.
The drum also shows me i have nothing in me.

You have many things in you.

I say to myself: "I'm going to write a poem."
So I situate myself in the proper place to do so.
But then, what to write about?
I look about my room, as if this is supposed to inspire me.
A teacup, a candlestick,
Box of unopened fig Newtons,
Mess of clothes on the floor.
Phone.
Sweatpants.
Boredom.
It turns out, I'm not a poet after all. Either that,
or I'm in the wrong room.
