The moon and I are friends
We have so much in common

The moon
Reflects the sun's light
Trying to copycat the stars
It's brightness is never enough
To equal them
But it keeps trying

The moon also has a dark side
One that nobody can see
It's the one true part of the moon
The part that's isn't trying
To be something it's not

The moon and I
Have so much in common

I can never let myself go
completely

because I am afraid
that I will drift apart

like motes of dust on a sunbeam
yet not quite as beautiful

and somewhat more meaningless.

When I was younger
I told my parents
That I wanted to touch a star
And they told me
To embrace one
With open arms.
Maybe that's why
When I hold you
And my chest burns,
And my mind spins,
I don't let go.

A writer
is someone with an old soul,
a young heart,
and a timeless mind.

for so long
and forgot
how beautiful dawn is
