i

why do i write?
to remember
not to forget
that is a fear

as one ages..
one thing leads to
another-
music helps..

and not-
to be fixed
or crucified
to the moment..

somewhere between
young and old
now and then
writing

is fun..
but kind of painful
sometimes
interesting

sometimes not
sometimes there is hope
and ambition
love and hate..

ii

i like to write
drink tea
and sing..

as old as man
brave
in my cave..

Our Fair Lady Moon is Jealous of You

                                         Cf. Shakespeare, Sonnet 43

I see you best when I see you in my dreams
By day my vision is distracted and dull
But at night you are brighter than moonbeams
And among all the darkness brighter still

At noon you are a shadow in the glaring sun
But in the night you are the brightest light
Our Fair Lady Moon is jealous of you
And stars vie with each other to complete your crown

Maybe a vision in the day is not what it seems -
I see you best when I see you in my dreams

sending poems into space
across swathes of sky

around the Earth they roam
set free
If Poetry’s a hobby
your muse is entropic
Fading and dying
— as silence awaits

(Dreamsleep: May, 2024)
Silence is a weird thing
Too much can make a man crazy
Too little could do the same

Yet here I sit in silence
Dreading the past
And forgetting the present

But what about the future you ask?
Why worry of what’s next
Why plan a next step

To live is to die
I accept the moment for what is
Which is grateful for what was

I have no code to myself
Just a rule or two
Mostly rewritten

So go ahead and cry today
Save your energy for what may
And try to save your pity
In the end we are the sum
total of the efforts we invested,
or conversely our failed deficiency
in that regard. With no one to
appreciate or blame, but ourselves.
