A hero is a person who
has simply done as others do
until a certain point in time
when they step over safety's line.
Then they become something more
than a mere human, and have borne
another person's trial and pain
not thinking of their glory, gain.

A hero's the woman who waits and stays
and watches while the others play,
then takes the drinking people home,
wending her way to sleep alone.

A hero's the teen who looks and sees
a child's kite hung in the trees
and climbs farther than he should dare
to show the kid that someone cares.

The mutt who stays by master's side,
Alerting folks with howls and cries.
He may be cold, have to defend,
But he'll stay with his human friend.

The "Boys/Girls in Blue" this word deserve.
They bravely work. Protect and serve.
Dealing with crime and human woes,
They go where others will not go.

A fireman breaks down a door.
There could be backdraft, but does more,
because the baby in the room
will almost surely be consumed.
He's sustained wounds, and badly burnt,
but the little girl survives, unhurt.

The soldier who's sent to block, defend.
His buddy's met a painful end,
but hunkers down, takes back the field.
'Til the end he will not yield.

Jesus left His Father's home,
went to earth to walk alone.
He endured horrid trial and pain,
He took our sin, He took our shame.
The reason why He was so brave?
So that billions would be saved.

There are many more of us
Who do hard work while others fuss.
The single moms and single dads,
Nowadays parents have it bad!
With no fanfare or applause
work long hours on thankless jobs.
They ensure kids do more than eat.
They can be schooled for greater feats.

And if a person takes the time
to bring some light, to let it shine,
to cheer up people down and blue

well, my friend,

that hero's YOU.

betterdays
oh' where did those days go
those enid blyton days
when my greatest wish
was to be jo, from the famous five....

those long and glorious
summerdays....
of sunshine and youth.

when bikes and fresh air
whipping past your face,
was way more....
important,
than winning the ratrace.

when the local creek
was the multiplex,
with so many different worlds on show ....
at each
new bend of the
winding, water slow.

when life was a beach
and living was carefree..

those days of watermelon
slices and orange icee's
backyard cricket....
belt it over the fence
for a six and out!!!

bbq'd sausages,
smothered in onions
and tomato sauce....
slapped on a slice,
of good white bread,
sufficed as dinner.

with a salad of course,
(if quick the salad could
be served surreptisiouly to
the local wildlife with a slip
and tilt of the paper plate)
if lucky, strawberries and
icecream to follow.

oh' those were the days,
simpler than most...
when the biggest
difficulty
was in ,cadging
one more hour,
before sleeping at night.
one more chapter,
(perhaps, even two)
of adventuring
with the famous five,
before sleeping....
under the security
of  youth...

An autumn
sunbeam on
the edge of my
childhood bed,
curled up with my
softly purring cat
nestled by my side.
Two unlike creatures,
brought together in warmth.

Tryst
Today I met four horsemen, riding on a trail
One looked hungry, one looked ill, and one looked deathly pale
The last one looked so angry, he had war within his eyes
They reigned their steeds, came to a stop, and took me by surprise

"The end is nigh mere mortal" the pale one rasped at me
"Your Lord has come, the Earth is done, there's nowhere you can flee!"
I pondered for a moment, and then a thought occurred
"It’s student rag week, right?" I said, "You all look quite absurd!"

I went on with my journey, and met another stranger
Dressed in a robe, with sandalled feet, he seemed to pose no danger
He raised his hands with palms outstretched, and I observed old scars
Above his head, the oddest thing, a halo bright as stars

"Prepare yourself for Judgment" proclaimed he in a lofty voice
He opened a book, took a quick look, then said "Oh right, you're nice!
First one today"
he muttered, "Most go the other way"
"Of course they do!" I forced a smile, and slowly backed away

I bade farewell politely, and he hurriedly wandered on
"It takes all sorts", I mused, feeling glad that he had gone
I resumed my journey eagerly, looking forward to it's end
And all was good, right up until, I went around a bend

The path was blocked with walking dead, flesh hanging from their bones
The younger ones, despite their state, were using mobile phones!
One told me that his name was Elvis, and he used to be a singer
But he stared at me, so hungrily, that I didn't dare to linger

When finally I made it home, I grabbed a bottle of *****
I sat right down, switched on TV, and flicked onto the news
"Breaking Story! The end is here, The Apocalypse has begun!"
The reporter seemed excited, and was waving round a gun

Shots rang out and sirens wailed, not all of them on TV
I heard commotion, in the street, a bit too close for me
I took a glug of whisky, and it tasted mighty fine
"If the world was going to end", I said, *"I'm sure there'd be a sign ..."

Don't know 'bout you, but
I can draw (conclusions) just fine...
her nails are a powder blue
each finger adorned with a ring
that has a meaning and place in her life
this one she got in her hometown in the south of france
this one she found roadside leaving denver
each has a story to be told
as if her hand is a roadmap to loves secret places
her delicate hands weave her thoughts
on the air when she speaks
the brass bracelet with her moonstone
and the silver ones ****** softly accenting her lovely voice
her elegant gestures flow and ebb with the conversation
but her soft hand always finds its way back to mine
and in that warm embrace of her tender fingers
where i find such joy and love
i could spend a lifetime telling
you about all the wonderful things i love about her
so let me begin by telling you about
her nails are a powder blue....
Hello my friend, my only friend
the night's said bye, and reached its end
the sun says hi! and slips over the bend
the day is nigh, its time to mend

No matter the times that life throws at us
no matter the cracks that grow within
we must wake up and not make a fuss
we must find calm in the noisy din

Away and afar do we have to go
the trail is rough, the fatigue in our toes
but stand up and shake it off, dear one
there is still so much to be done

If you feel tired, I will lend you my strength
If you have lost desire, I will find it again
If you feel mired, I will show you the way
If you wish to rest, I will hold you, and gently sway

Don't give up now, give up on the regret
Take a deep breath, and get off that bed
the bed of roses, you have made for yourself
soon they will be thorns, and you will be dead

Make use of the time, that life gives free
that slips slyly by, as you sit and dream
It's now or never, my only friend
One day at a time, and you can rest at the end
A day is nothing in the big picture, but it is everything for a fly that lives a day.
To,
The Queen of my Heart

Though we be apart, many miles apart
the distance is moot, when the love is afoot
but a lot can be said, for a kiss on the head
a warm touch on skin, a peck on the chin
the lack of a hug, does on the heart tug
but I pretend all that is less, than what I feel, I confess
I have never shed a tear, but I was quite near

If truth be told, and it is a fact of old
Men are much more, than unfeeling bores
we love, we kiss, we hurt when you are amiss
its a facade we play, the mask we wear everyday
we try to seem strong, its been so for so long
which sometimes is viewed, as being dull, or rude
So we were taught, what a man ought to do, and what not
we don't wish to hurt, when we seem distant, or curt
the mask won't come off, its soldered on tough
but if you wont give up without a fuss, and there's no one but us
I might let it drop, and open the lock
so my heart may spring free, in tandem with thee
and joy becomes me, after an eternity
So bear with me my dear, I am but chained to my fear
though there will be such times, when I join life's rhyme
and together we shall dance, our hearts in a trance
This is something all the seemingly serious or solemn men would want to tell their lovers or wives, to not lose patience with them, and understand that they wish they weren't so too. It is just hard for them to embrace their sensitive or happy sides, after so many years of conditioning.

Love!               vs              Love?

I love you!                      I love you?
It's true, I do!                 It's true, I do
Wonder why?              Wonder why;
You love me too!          You love me too?
