In the dark we marked tattoos of
disintegrating constellations
on our rib cages,
our fingernails filled with ink.
We were told they would last
forever on 19 year old skin
when carved on the night where
each fallen brother of Sun kissed
our mid-August goosebumps.

The weight of our bodies
cut into the grass.
We came back the next evening to
watch these human Grand Canyons
sink deeper to Earth's liquid center
underneath flashlight flickers of an
approaching thunderstorm,
each bolt echoing on the hearts
of Lake Michigan fish.
The trees fell inside our craters
as we walked backward to my car,
fearing for our lives, but
immobile from each reaching meteor.

Perseus fell through Earth's granite throat,
parabolic melting of night sky.
Collapsed Big Dipper and Ursa Major
illuminated our chests
over shadow of dying white pine.
Written about observing the Perseid Meteor Shower in August of 2015. Truly a spectacle that everyone should witness in their lifetime.

As the terror of night fall tolls,
Waiting with baited breath are the drones of something wicked.
We best lock the doors, cover the women and children.
The sun sets, and at last you flood in as the armies of pure horror.
Your weakness is the incessant beat of slick wings.
No single one of you bares mercy for the light,
It be the first thing slaughtered.
And through the night you find the cracks in houses your grotesquely large bodies can manage.
No head of hair is safe from the wrath.
Yet the worst part comes morning,
When your remains cover street corners and tables,
And we are left to mourne the dead for you.
Must you show no respect, no compassion for mankind?
I ******* hate June Bugs.

I push waves with my toes
Up Lake Superior.

I kiss each drop with promises,
Hoping you catch them.

I think you listen every night,
Ear cupped to the tide, feet submerged.

I imagine you save them in empty jars,
specimens on desktop.

In the morning you'll send them back
Freshly whispered and crisp.

I'll rub them between fingertips.
Your frozen ankles will tingle.
Somewhat inspired by the song Water by Ra Ra Riot.

**** these tiny butterflies,
that rest in my stomach,
and expand in my chest...

like little paper knives,
i choke.

and
ill block my lungs one day,
and ***** them up,
coughing out each wing
and eyeball and
tooth
.
.
.

even if theyve got my tongue twisted,
and my brain scattered,

like paint,
it is venom to my
squeezing, breathing heart
and
one day
ill rip out my
intestines
just to see them
gone.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There are fewer things
beautiful than ugly,
I know that stars are most
bright when they fall
from impassioned skies,
That when your skin
meets mine, I am like an
amnesiac being returned
a lifetime of memories.

I hate few things,
except, perhaps, the murky
lakes of your eyes,
The misty beaches we
explored until sunrise.
How you pressed your lips
to mine like a death wish,
that it was deplorable,
but we wanted more, more.

My body was a map
you tore apart when you
got tired of exploring it.
The ancient psalms of our
tongues cannot silence.
Ruins of ancient Rome
survive on your lips, yet
you still live, breathe.
You call yourself mortal.

I have this friend across the pond
As bright as clear-night stars
Intelligent and talented
And faster than souped up cars

But she has her flaws, alas
As all the best poets do
I know this to be a fact, of course
Who hasn't got one or two?

After all, it has to be said
Perfection is lack of character to me
So I'm keeping my eye on my talented friend
And watch as her mind flies free
