Frankenstein Writing
niamh Jun 2015
Buried emotions
Breaking free
From their constraints.
Dormant thoughts
Coming alive
In pools of molten lava.
Love,
Untethered and unashamed
Shines brightly.
Fears pulled
Struggling and screaming
Into the light.
The switch was flicked
And poetry came
Like an unstoppable current,
Bringing me to life
After many many years of not writing, I came across this site & now can't seem to stop! Cathartic in the extreme!

Foray
niamh Jun 2015
The sun set
On my childhood.
I became a
Creature of the night,
A brief indulgence
In all things dark
Before you brought me
Back into the light

Gone
niamh Jun 2015
A moment
Saturated in fear.
Heart racing
Like a herd of galloping stallions.
Hairs standing on end
Early warning sign.
Mouth dried out with cotton
Threatening to suffocate me.
A sunlit park
So suddenly full of dark corners
And darker intent.
There you sit
At the foot of a flowerbed
Oblivious to any imagined danger.
Innocence personified
Lost sight of my daughter in the park today (for 2 seconds) & it made me feel sick

Burning History
niamh Jun 2015
I burnt the pages of my history.
Flames of fantastic orange
And electric blue
Feasted ravenously
On past mistakes and regrets.
I gathered the ashes
And polished
My shining future
Apparently wood ash can be used to clean silver! :)

Drunk poetry
niamh Jun 2015
Let me sink another glass of wine
To bring me closer to the divine
I don't mean a God of any kind
(If you're religious I hope you don't mind)
I mean the place inside of me,
Where I know lives good poetry
Gotta love drunken writing :) don't judge me, it's my week off :)

Fool's Rules
niamh Jun 2015
You mistook
My past for my present.
It's a never ending game
With ever changing rules.
Don't mistake my presence
As a symbol of acquiescence.
I will not play the fool
'Friends' should never judge

Love magic
niamh Jun 2015
He cups his hands
Beneath her face
The better to catch her tears.
He gathers her grief
Sorrow and pain
Along with all her fears.
He turns them into
A crystal dove
And then he sets it free.
She knows then that
This must be love,
The best that there can be

Falls
niamh Jun 2015
She runs downhill
With the wind at her back.
She has wings on her feet
Smoke trails from the back
But she trips on a lace
And falls to the ground
Flat on her face
With a cracking sound
And tears spring to her eyes
And the lip starts to shake
Taken by surprise
Did anything break?
Invincible no more
With blood galore
But an angel wraps her wings around her
And she feels eternal love surround her
Nothing deep here - just a poem about comforting my daughter after she fell. I don't see myself as an angel but she does :)

Jungle
niamh Jun 2015
Evolved from apes?
We hide our treacherous deeds behind smiling faces.
Our leaders offer up promises worth
Their weight in air.
Our children are a future we're slowly but surely destroying.
We didn't evolve.
The apes just realized the jungle is safer

Untitled
niamh Jun 2015
Your eyes are blue lagoons
I could swim in all day
Your arms are silken scarves
To drape around me
Your lips are a rosé wine
I savour their taste
Your body is a temple
Let me worship
Your love is the air
It surrounds me

Days
niamh Jun 2015
The sun sets on another day.
A family bereft and broken
A new baby birthed
A debilitating grief
A rousing celebration
A voice no longer heard
A song newly sung
A memory, so soon to fade
A future, to be filled with memories.
The moon watches over the altered earth
And tomorrow the sun will rise on another day
Life, however painful, goes on

Catwoman
niamh Jun 2015
She purrs just like a cat on heat
As she strolls seductively down the street
Lifting her tail high in the air
And smiling at the men who stare.
With this body so lithe and sublime
She fools them each and every time
For if they thought to stop and pause
They'd look closer and see her claws
Kind of a follow-up from 'The Temptress' ;)

Lunar
niamh Jun 2015
She controls the tide
In her mysterious way
And lights the night sky
At the end of the day.
Whether she be blood red or bright white
She's the undisputed lady of the night.
Her children gather around her,
Pinpricks of history
To further illuminate her beauty

Sunbathing
niamh Jun 2015
Face turned up
Towards her light
In an idolatrous way.
Hot streaks of colour
Behind eyes closed
In silent appreciation.
Silky rays caressing
Naked skin
Like a long lost lover.
The scent of coconut oil
Tickles the nostrils.
Sunbathing
Is today's religion of choice

The dripping tap
niamh Jun 2015
And the tap drips on.
Will it scorch or soothe?
Will it gush like a waterfall?
Or trickle like a stream?
This thirst quenching giver of life.
Will you drink from it?
Or immerse yourself completely?
The choice is yours.
And the tap drips on.

Children on swings
niamh Jun 2015
They experience an exhilirating flight
Adrenaline of pure joy mixed with fright
Hair flying back in the summers breeze
They're as one with the birds in the trees
And as their feet reach out to touch the sky
I mourn my inner child
Watching my kids on the swings & miss how free I felt doing it when I was a kid

The Temptress
niamh Jun 2015
With hair so black
And eyes to match
She has them all entranced.

With swaying hips
And luscious lips
She leads them in a merry dance.

They fight brother to brother
To make her their lover
And fall down at her feet.

But what she doesn't show
And they don't know
Is she dances to the devil's beat
Just for fun :)

He reached out to her
Nerves jangling
And lips shredded by unsure teeth
Eyes widened in anticipation
And adrenaline pumping.
Limbs shaking in fear
And nervous excitement
He reached out to her
She reached out to him
They reached out and touched the stars

Driven to drink
niamh Jun 2015
Providers of moments of pure gold
I can't get enough of my children
Except when the tell me I'm getting old
Then I want to **** them.

If honesty's your best policy
Then kids are the way to go
But its not all fun and frivolity
They don't seem to understand 'no'

If you're all for clean living
You may have another think
For being around your kids all day,
Can drive a girl to drink
Kids driving me up the wall today!

Skeletons
niamh Jun 2015
I took my skeletons
And put them in the closet
Way back where no one
Could ever find them
But the noise of clacking bones
Haunted me daily.

You came along
And opened the doors
Danced with the skeletons under sunlight
Until their bones crumbled to dust

And held my hand as the dust was carried away by the wind

Dangerous rivers
niamh Jun 2015
Children dangle feet in water
And trouts nibble upon
Their fleshy worms.
A rising wind whips fish
Into a furious frenzy
And the river roars
To warn the infants
But it's too late
And a beautiful baby
Becomes a ragdoll
I live beside a gently flowing river that claimed the life of a young boy following a freak storm

That moment
niamh Jun 2015
There's a moment
Just before waking
When silver and orange glows
Mix on an unearthly pallate
When hearts are still in dreams
And early birds play
Background music.
In this moment you reach for me
Before your eyes
Can even check I'm there
And I know in that moment
I was in your dream
That moment is bliss

Two Voices
niamh Jun 2015
One voice
Drips acid
Spits venom
Poisons thoughts
Encourages jealousy
Rushes through like an inferno obliterating hapiness
Preaches hatred and receives hatred in return

The other
Showers love
Hugs with passion
Kisses with fervour
Encourages growth
Tiptoes through like a trickling river
Leaving me sated
Supports all and receives support in return.

I know which voice I'd rather listen to.
When it comes to poetry, both sides battle to rule the pen, but I hope the nicer side is reigning
