You liked grey
and I liked green.
We clashed in more ways than one.

We were soldiers.
Your eyes were bullets.
My heart was a loaded gun.

Day and night,
relentless battles,
drenched in our cold sweat.

Bruised and wounded,
the blood I’ve shed
tastes bitter with regret.

When you shot through my chest,
I’ll be honest,
the pain was hard to ignore.
I didn’t even need to tell you
that love was the war.
love was always the war

I saw you in the tempest
that raged over the trees
I heard you in the silence
screaming through the breeze
I found you in the ripples
on the surface of the sea
You were all the chaos I hoped for
And everything I couldn't keep
kinda anti-climatic but whatever
Danica May 2015
A fleeting glance
A longing stare
A touch of hand
A gasp for air

A beat that skips
When you're around
A heart that loves
Which knows no bounds

Within small talks
Without a clue
I helplessly fell
In love with you

There are earthquakes
And landslides
There are floods
And hurricanes
There are car crashes
And forest fires

And then there's us
he
Danica Mar 2018
he
daydream dances
          sideward glances
                    sipping from his mug
pensive eyes
          muted sighs
                    absentminded shrugs
heavy drinker
          over thinker
                    bizarre state of mind
across the table
          sitting, staring
                    wishing he was mine
Danica Mar 2016
He went with the tides
And changed with the seasons
I loved him the right way

                   For all the wrong reasons
found this in one of my old journals  and thought it'd be a waste not to post it here
Danica May 2016
i sat one summer afternoon
my mind boggled by a question
if everything was bound to end,
what made love an exception?
Danica May 2015
Some people give too much
and the others just keep taking
but you and I took that to a whole new level
when I gave you
everything I had to give
but you still left
because *broken pieces were never enough for you.
Danica Jan 2016
our lips sealed shut
our gaze, averted
no, your words never left a scar

    your silence did
Danica Jan 2015
You built a home inside of him
but how were you to know
that when he'd leave you here for dead
you’d have nowhere else to go?

So you pick up pen and paper
Along with the other pieces too
and you learn to play with words
the way he played with you

when you're off to another state
to a place where i can't see
winding up and down the boulevard
and working on your dreams

spare a thought for me, my love
picture slanted eyes and curls
keep me on your mind as i
wait on edge for your return
Danica Jun 2016
i am here
in a cramped classroom
with my earphones on
and you at the back of my mind
the AC is too cold
and i'm sitting next to acquaintances i will never want to get to know
a pile of books under my chair
my bag slung over the seat in front of me
and 'i miss you' at the tip of my tongue
but these hallways aren't enough to echo them all the way to you

and there you are
one floor down
on the other side of the building
a smile on your face
and anything but me on your mind
laughing with people you've already gotten along with
your new friends
a pile of books under your chair
your bag slung over the seat in front of you
and a goodbye that doesn't have to leave your lips
because i don't need to hear one to know you're gone
it's a new school year and my friends are moving on and meeting new people and i can feel them forget me so lol

he liked to travel
around the world
pack up his things
leave without a word
through countries and seas
and blue skies above
see unfamiliar faces
and glimpses of love
over bridges, through canyons
i can sure guarantee
there isn’t a corner
he’d not wish to see
the storms be ******
along with heat and dust
there's not a known remedy
for his wanderlust
yet of all the crowded cities
and squares of empty space
being with me just isn’t
his favourite place
