Earth:   Three trillion trees.
Moon:   No cotton seeds.
Mars:    No face to feed.
Yet billions here seek shade.
There are more trees on earth than the combined number of stars in several galaxies.
Outside its cold the weather is bleak
Tired and weary longing for sleep
Sitting here by the old log fire
It's cosy and warm the flames rise higher.

Looking outside its starting to snow
We are staying here nowhere to go
Very soon we will be off to bed
Jack frost outside every ones dread.

Winter is fierce an unpredictable force
And we can hear it howling outside our door
Very soon it will be time to retire
As the flames slow down in the old log fire.

Now Dreamland is waiting we can hear it call
Let's say goodnight to the winter fall
We shall close our eyes throughout the night
And our dreams and thoughts will take to flight

Time to rest tommorow  will keep
It's freezing outside the snow is deep
Now tomorrow will start another day
And the old log fire will burn again.
Freezing cold last night the cold weather certainly helps me
Apriesiate a warm bed.nevertheless can't help thinking of
Those many Homeless in our town's and around our city's.
A friend is like a ring of gold,
Its value known by those who hold,

Friends are few and far between,
Loyal, true, opinions keen.

On dark nights when tears often flow,
At times in life nowhere to go,

A heart that's broke and cannot heal,
To give advice, a love that's real.

Always there in times of need,
Healing wisdom, words to heed,

The brightest star within the sky,
No price to pay, no reason why.

A sack of Gold within his hand,
The stranger walked into the land,
To buy and sell, or some to lend,
And yet the gold brought him no friend.

In a life where things can rot or rust,
Where all must die, return to dust,

There is no thing which one can hold,
Except a friend worth more than gold.

If you find this precious gift,
That friend who truly spirits lift,

Do not betray, do not forget,
For those who do will long regret.

There was a Winter’s chill
But we still had fun
Sledding down the hill
In the clear Winter sun

It was a cold day of play
Mittens stuck to the sleds
A frantic snowball fray
With woolen caps on our heads

And we all slipped and slid
Never really knowing
How great it was being a kid
In our yard, as it was snowing

But then as we grew older
Winter never seemed the same
Each year grew a little colder
Reliving our childhood game

By Kirke Wise

The first publication of this poem was in the Winter 2019 edition of The Watershed Journal
Just a little poem to help me capture and remember some of those winter moments in the back yard so long ago.

Today I stood against the beast
I realized he was a coward
He cowered before me when I roared
I am in control
I realize now
Oh ye beast within
I am in control
The beast within can be anything: procrastination, fear, alcoholism, *** addiction, laziness whatever it is, You are stronger and you can defeat the beast. With Determination, patience, time and love from yourself and those around you... stay strong
You’re never going to have the cake
Learn to like the taste of bread.

You’re never going to wear diamonds
Learn to appreciate cut glass.

You’re never going to hear applause
Learn to marvel at the stillness.

You’re never going to win the gold
Learn to admire the shine of silver.

You’re never going to be adored
Learn to love just being liked.

You’re never going to live forever
Learn to be your best today.

Gotta get rid of all these downers.  Had a couple of bad days, am not in a depression.

Honesty is priceless,
For a fact I'd say even timeless,
Makes the heart glow with brightness,
Tell it without a spec of shyness,
Speak it out loud even when the world expect you to be in silence,
honesty is priceless,
Because without it;  life and love would be rhymeless.

We suffer at the hands of the illogical mind
as intrusive thoughts steal time
creating the illusion that we are not
when what we are is the perfection
of everything we so desperately sought

The vanity of human desire runs deep
the price of greed and envy are steep
bliss, love and joy are unattainable
unless we trust in our hearts’ wisdom
this human condition is inescapable
