It's not how much you say,
it's what you say that matters.
Jay M May 2020
People cautiously walking the sidewalks
Masks of all sorts over their faces
Cover the mouth, cover the nose
Keep away, far away
Heed the warnings, as they say;

Stay 6 feet away,
Cover your mouth,
Cover your face
This is no way to live
But to survive
Or before you know it
You're already dead...

People shuffling past
Lift up their head
Groan as they stand in last
Hoping not to rot in their place

Once inside, they took what they could
Doesn't mean that they should
Only to leave others with scraps
Like kids playing with bottle caps

Finally, signs saying to take less
Ease a bit of that good ol' stress
Save it for the lines of insanity
And all that is left of humanity

Walk the streets, get outside
For the time you can, no longer hide
Return soon to thy shelters
Keep busy, maybe become painters

Walk along the ocean shore
Then return home, what a bore
Paint the barren sands,
Once with so many people, holding hands
Now with little to none
Go home and be done

Scarcely utter a word
To those on the street
But over the phone, loud as a bird
In conversation, the shuffling of feet

Open slow, the lesser things
Whilst still some folks are getting wings
Soon enough, renew the world
Let it all come unfurled
Only to consume us all once more
Just like before.

The purpose of this poem is to display the current state of the world, and leaders attempt to slowly bring things back to some semblance of normalcy.

When you been hurt
So many times.
Your reply to it
I’m use to it.

With each passing day
There is more that I would like to say
Than a few simple words
To let them fly free as birds
Into the open air
Yearning for all to be fair

Another day
Do I ever wish to stay
At the side of an angel, alas,
Mother’s forbid such romantic tales

Indeed, all is strange

Listen to you heart
O the things it shall tell you
Very interesting things,
Emotions are

Yet always so very curious
O the curiosity of it indeed
Under the nose of those that disapprove

Communication, words flowing through the air
Alas, kept in hushed tone
Never before such a risk
To be presented

Yes, indeed all is well
O, but don’t tell
Under the stars, all is swell

Stretching across the grand expanse
Ever so wondrous
Even words are not great enough to describe its grandeur

This world is surely strange
How human emotions work is stranger still
At the end, does hope whisper in a cautious ear
Telling of possibility and chance?

A strange one. Sometimes the things I write even surprise me.
Jay M May 2020
Uncertain of what's coming
Walking in a room with my eyes closed
I'm steady, so I'll keep running
No, how could I ever let go?
When all around me is crumbling to my feet
And there's nobody on my street
My lonely, quiet road
I travel with my dog
Through an invisible fog

Early hours I feel my heart racing
Like in my dreams there was something I was chasing
Leaving me breathless in my waking moments
Memories of the chase fleeing like rodents

None know the entirety of the chaos I've been wading through
In all of this time I feel that my strength grew
True, at some points it felt like I may have reached the ends
But then I talk to my friends

*Found this one in my drafts. It was finished, but I hadn't done anything with it.
