The wise trees turning color.
leaves of hues of green
turn golden and crimson.
Faster day by day
almost hour by hour.

first, a last glow of magnificence.
Signifying the end of a life cycle
another ring in its trunk.

Even the Indian summer
belying the changing seasons
could not confuse them.

For as long as the earth has been
they know the season's.
Such knowledge it lives
in their deepest roots.
The very soil whispering
it's secrets to them.

Soon a rush to leave
the glorious branches.
The falling crimson rain
falls in torrents to the earth.

Free from their branches
the leaves float in freedoms delight.
Catching the cooler autumn breezes
and flying to see the world
for one last time.
Ffor one last season.

Children dance
in the rustling leafy beds.
Acorns and horse chestnuts
fall and seek a place to root.

squirrels build their  nest
taking the seeds to storage for
the harsh winter ahead.

Eventually the trees
are gray and bare.
Their skeleton fingers
pointing to a sad winter sky.
Patiently awaiting renewal
in a far off spring day.

As the first snows falls
I promise myself to be
as patient as the trees
A promise that
I break by lunchtime.

Steal me away;
make me forget I ever lost my place
and wandered about these lands,
wandered about the forbidden and the outcast.
The ground bellowed for a bit of me,
for a fistful of feathers
and a pinch of flesh.
Home never tasted like honey,
there was never a way back.

Here your life begins.
Here you find yourself drenched in solitude
that burns like gasoline every night.

This is your way of becoming one with the moon.
When powers she wields
river she breaks homes
floods paddy fields

Swords of rains
swells her hurt pride
boils her veins

Vengeful she brims
breaks the lock gate
cultivator's dreams

Gone is sweet flow
in the moonlight
soft silver glow

Simmers her soul
raging red hot
she burns like coal

With inflamed tides
she devours the crop
growing on her sides

River now a curse
she wouldn't recede
without leaving scars

She can't be blamed at all
men have only ravaged her
taken her all.

.

I was in a meeting, the boardroom was full
testosterone flowed everywhere
Dressed in a polo, but high dollar suits
were what the execs chose to wear

I sat at the end, with a chair next to me,
where no one decided to sit
Feeling quite weird, I was new to this place
and wondered if I’d be a fit

Them in their ties and me underdressed,
my khakis were old, kind of thin
Button down shirts and cuff links of gold
I guess there’s no chance I’ll fit in

A half hour gone, bored out of my mind,
when I couldn’t believe what I saw
A beautiful woman, a pant suit of silk,
came in from out there in the hall

Her hair chocolate brown with eyes just the same,
she rushed as she looked for a seat
Then sat in the chair, I was happy to share,
now this was a wonderful treat

She said, “**** I’m late, I forgot to stop
and look at my schedule last night”
I said, “That’s okay, they’ve not much to say
I’m sure that it will be alright”

We sat there a while, I stared at her smile,
just hoping she wouldn’t catch me
When then she stood up, it was her time to talk
my god, she was smart, I could see

A room full of men, one amazing woman
and she put them all in their place
Yes, she knew her stuff and I was impressed
but the board, oh the look on their face

They grumbled and groaned and snorted a bit,
but knew today something they learned
I laughed deep inside, when one then stood up
and said to us “meeting adjourned”

I said, “You were great, even though you were late,
and you look so good in that suit”
She said, “Thanks so much, I’m glad you approve
and by the way I think you’re cute”

I got up the nerve and asked her if she’d
like to join me for coffee or tea
She said, “That sounds nice, but I’d much prefer
a drink, sounds much better to me”

I said , “It’s a date and please don’t be late”
She giggled and flashed me a grin
It’s then that I knew, no worries at all,
this place I would surely fit in

In the silence, there is a sound.
Nay, it cannot be heard
by the naked ear
but rather by
the naked eye.

In the darkness, there is a light.
Nay, it cannot be seen
by your barren eye
but rather by
the passers by.

Watch your love, and watch your life
For in itself, beauty's strife
will take a hold
on your lowly, downed life.

Unfiltered lenses cover eyes
create a day where no one spies
on hearts of truth and hearts of lies
no one hurts and no one dies.

Beauty is in the unseen, unheard.
And one day, one day
more lessons shall be learned.
Bad pentameter. But I'm not in the mood for editing.

We're all in a sea of souls
Struggling to survive
It's hard to find much peace of mind
It's hard to stay alive
The water's full of monsters
For some reason they thrive
Wasps that sting, and poisonous bees
There are many hives
There are those who'd drag you down
So they can have "blessed lives"

Mermaids sing a siren song
Beside the whirlpools
There are wraiths upon the waves
Sea dragons and ghouls
Islands made of straw and grass
The devil has his tools
You could climb upon them
To sink like silly fools
You're in an ocean full of lies
Herein Satan rules

But there is is an Island
Made of rock and stone
You can find Safe Haven
You'll never be alone
Sandy beaches wash away
This you will be shown
On this Island there is a Fortress
He'll call you His own
He will help you weather storms

And he will take you Home

You can play a million parts
Be cast in many roles
Walk in boots with steel toes
But find they have no soles
Go to kitchens to get soup
And find there are no bowls
Follow all the precepts
And find there are no rules
You can climb on life rafts
And find they have great holes
Be lured to many beaches
Cast on many shoals
But there is just one way out

Please pray for my father. He is still in the hospital. They still don't know what's wrong. Thank you!

i find it vexing

when you decide
not to
use words.

...and there are
so many to
choose from.
string together 9 or 10
and you begin
to bridge the divide.

you can even
sing them
scratch them
type them
take photographs of them.
there are ways.

instead,
you slam down
barriers,
strange, wordless barriers
choosing a route
sure to cause
confusion
and disarray.

i don't know
how true it is
to say
that actions
speak louder
than words...

it is hard to
glean intent
from an action...
one does not
necessarily always follow
the other.

it is in this state
of guessing,
of chaos,
of fragmentation -
that i constantly
find myself
entrenched in.

it causes a glitch
in my system...
this endless
refocusing
reimagining
rewinding

and i can't help
but believe
if i had the words
if you
gave me the words
i could construct
a story.
an understanding.

and there is nothing
i want more
than a
good story.
a connection,
an awareness of
the way
things are supposed
to move together.

i keep getting stuck.
i keep having to
construct all my own stories,
explanations,
and reinventions.

i don't want to
have to work so hard
to piece together
this disaster
of human
folly.

this exquisite search
for meaning.

this heartbreaking
reach
for
recognition
in
each other.
